Re: [IRCA] Mystery station while WHO off the air

2011-12-24 Thread Hawkins

Gang,

Thanks for all the help. I am sure that you are correct and that it was
CKST. They were quite strong with WHO gone and very listenable.

WHO has an extremely strong signal between Boone where I live and Des
Moines where I work. There are some great photos, and a little history
at http://www.desmoinesbroadcasting.com/who/who-main.html

[IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Saturday

2011-12-24 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Now I had poor conditions this morning. Weak hets, little audio. Even the
high band where the N/S wire has always been the best was poor and ambiguous
between E/W and N/S wires, so conditions were definitely down. Best was 1575
presumed VOA; not even 1566 had more than fleeting very poor audio. Best was
between 1505-1520 utc and everything went away by 1530.

Merry Christmas!

Re: [IRCA] Mystery station on 1040 while WHO was off.

2011-12-24 Thread bill kral
WHO's on first? LOL. The station heard while WHO was off air was most likely
CKST Van BC since they use a card 5 tower array pushing a tight east-west
signal pattern to protect a couple of US stations to the south and sounds like
a 1K watter here in Victoria.
TPs from Vic BC at 0:700 to 0:800 PST: Out of a handful of hets heard this
morning 972 was the strongest during a series of fades of 970 Portland and with
possible audio of woman signing opera style Christmas songs and other stuff but
with no talk in non English language so positive ID could not be logged. At 8
AM 972 faded into the approaching daylight. The other hets on 747,1008,and a
couple of 1200s did not develop into anything strong enough for audio.

2011-12-24 Thread bill kral
Now that we've surmised "who"it was that you heard while the local 1040 was off
,it would be safe to assume that with CKST in strong in WHO's coverage area at
night (if WHO was silent) that the signal from Vancouver is giving WHO
listeners some reception inconvenience by producing a mix in the fringe areas
of WHO's ground wave around Des Moines.Bill in BC

Its also providing interference so strong that WHO is choppy especially in
WHO's fade. This should make it to the east coast to those with nice size
antennas.
