Very nice afternoon loggings, Bill!  Friday morning, a nice post-sunrise
opening to Texas and Louisiana was noted here.  Had KCLE-1460 in @ 0856 CLT
with a local trading post show and an ad for a local flower shop.  Three
minutes later, KLCL was in on 1470 with a promo for local bands playing around
the Lake Charles area for Mardi Gras celebrations.  Gotta love the dead of
winter for medium wave!

Nice going, Nick. Unfortunately, there's not been much TA activity in
Seattle. I found carriers on 1575 1422 1215 and maybe 783 when I

at ~0100 ut Jan 16th, observing carriers on both 1503 and 1575. Using the
Perseus in .098 span/.12 hz RBW and quite a long average to come up with
these, and trying to keep the calibration accurate - something I have lots
of trouble doing. I wouldn't even be certain these are good to 1 hz.
Every time I check the calibration, it always could be improved upon.

1575 seemed to have more earlier but just seeing 1574.997+, 1574.999 and

dead air (no carrier), Hints of Korea on 657, wisps of Japan on 774 (last year
at this time
of the night, it would have been chock a block...) audio on
945, 954, 1017 (Tonga), 1170, 1440 (assume Kiribati ruling the channel),
EE on 1548, 1566 (hints of korean), and 1593.

Will concentrate on getting an ID out of Kiribati tonight -

Last night's audio clue was "William Goward Memorial College..." several
times - which would agree with the google hits for Kiribati. Yay.

[IRCA] 1575 daytime carrier

2012-01-15 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
A very wispy carrier on 1575 being heard on Gabriola Island at 2025UTC (local
noon is 2000UT). Pretty much imaginarily audible carrier (but very visible in
Spectran) on 1539, plus a visible only carrier on 1503. I wonder what Don
Moman is hearing today?

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] TA?

2012-01-15 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Morning TP conditions this morning weren't that good either here at first
glance, Rocco (barring strong signals from HLAZ-1566), but I see on the MW
Circle list that there's evidence of Alaska on MW and LW in Scotland at
present, so perhaps the trans-polar path remains open.

I will be listening at local sunset also from Gabriola Island.

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] For DXers targetting 1700-XEPE ....

2012-01-15 Thread Tim Tromp
Hi Steve,

I don't know about midnight, but I caught the Mexican National Anthem here
this morning on 1700 at 8am EST / 5am PST. I'm assuming I heard XEPE (it
wouldn't be the first time), but the signal faded just before TOH to
confirm.

[IRCA] 738 Tahiti from Michigan

2012-01-15 Thread Tim Tromp
A steady het was noticed around 5am EST on 738. Checking again just before
6am, the het was much stronger and I could tell from the Perseus waterfall
display that it was producing audio. Careful nulling of CFZM helped to
recover the weak audio that I could match against the Polynésie 1 web feed
during a short musical piece just before TOH. While not new, this is the
first time I've heard them well before my local sunrise. 576 also had a
het, but much much weaker with no hope of audio. Nothing from 702.

Re: [IRCA] KCEG-780 tested this afternoon

2012-01-15 Thread Robert Wien
Per radio-locator.com, KCEG's xmtr is right along I-25, about 5 miles south of
Fountain, just opposite of the road from Fort Carson. The next closest xmtr
would be KREL-1580's which is off of Mesa Ridge Parkway and I-25 in Fountain
(Security-Widefield), about 5 miles south of Colorado Springs. I'll have to
drive by the xmtr some time, right along South Meridian Road. Anyone know
what's happening with KJME-890's construction permit? It looks like KJME and
KCEG both at least diplex from one (or several?) of the towers, as KJME's is in
the same location. KCEG is licensed to Pueblo, KJME is licensed to Fountain.
