[IRCA] Test CX
I'm wondering if the solar activity (flare) happening this weekend had a negative effect on band conditions, or possibly the new tower (folded tripole) now used by KRSN is not as skywave friendly ? I remember in 2006 when they tested they were in here like a blowtorch, voice and all. [IRCA] KRSN 1490 Not Heard in Madison WI
Chances of hearing the KRSN 1490 DX test would have been difficult enough at my distance to start with. However, they are made all but impossible due to the splatter of local WLMV 1480 with its Latin music format. In order to null this splatter out I have to turn the loop so that it points SE/NW, or almost 90 degrees from what is needed, effectively nulling KRSN along with WLMV. Still, just for the record I did try hearing this test on Sunday morning (Saturday morning was spent listening to 880 with WCBS off-air). [IRCA] KRSN 1490's DX test
And I didn't even think about going after it here, since the tower of KOMJ-1490 is roughly two miles WSW of my QTH (Carl Mann, out in west Omaha, had a better shot at it, but told me he still had to do a very tight null on KOMJ just to get anything). The night wasn't a total bust for me, though, as I got KJJQ-910 (on day power with South Dakota State Univ. BKB) and XEMR-1140 for entries #688 and #689 in the logbook here. Re: [IRCA] 1490 and a question about Forks, WA
KBIS and sister KBDB carry a satelitte music service from Jones/Dial Global/Tritron Media and what you likely heard was a liner between songs or coming out of a song. These are pre-recorded and sit on the local stations computer, fired by a satelitte tone/cue at the network studio in Denver. When a network jock is sick and someone fills in or a call letter change happens, the local liners don't always get updated. Plan to use quad shield RG-6 burial cable, and would like to install a common mode choke or two prior to the coax getting to the receiver. NO TIME TO WIND MY OWN---so please don't suggest that. Looking to buy high quality units off the shelf. Can someone make a recommendation? 73, Les Rayburn, N1LF ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
