[IRCA] Test CX

2012-01-22 Thread Mike Sanburn

I'm wondering if the solar activity (flare) happening this weekend had a
negative effect on band conditions, or possibly the new tower (folded tripole)
now used by KRSN is not as skywave friendly ? I remember in 2006 when they
tested they were in here like a blowtorch, voice and all. Mike Sanburn So Cal

2nd chance test scheduled for early Sunday morning, Jan. 22, starting
at midnight MOUNTAIN time (0700 UTC).

Test is scheduled to run for 10 minutes.

Included are sweep tones, 20 WPM Morse code at 700 Hz, telephone

 Thanks, Paul!

Also included is 20 WPM Morse code at 5 kHz, so those of you with the

[IRCA] KRSN 1490 Not Heard in Madison WI

2012-01-22 Thread DXERak

Chances of hearing the KRSN 1490 DX test would have been difficult enough
at my distance to start with. However, they are made all but impossible due
to the splatter of local WLMV 1480 with its Latin music format. In order to
null this splatter out I have to turn the loop so that it points SE/NW, or
almost 90 degrees from what is needed, effectively nulling KRSN along with
WLMV. Still, just for the record I did try hearing this test on Sunday
morning (Saturday morning was spent listening to 880 with WCBS off-air). No
luck.

[IRCA] KRSN 1490's DX test

2012-01-22 Thread Rick Dau
And I didn't even think about going after it here, since the tower of KOMJ-1490
is roughly two miles WSW of my QTH (Carl Mann, out in west Omaha, had a better
shot at it, but told me he still had to do a very tight null on KOMJ just to
get anything).  The night wasn't a total bust for me, though, as I got KJJQ-910
(on day power with South Dakota State Univ. BKB) and XEMR-1140 for entries #688
and #689 in the logbook here.  And KFAB is back to being IBOC-less.

2012-01-22 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
KBIS and sister KBDB carry a satelitte music service from Jones/Dial
Global/Tritron Media and what you likely heard was a liner between songs or
coming out of a song.

These are pre-recorded and sit on the local stations computer, fired by a
satelitte tone/cue at the network studio in Denver.

When a network jock is sick and someone fills in or a call letter change
happens, the local liners don't always get updated.

2012-01-22 Thread bill kral
17:30 PST 00 Nanaimo BC  At 16:30 PST only one signal was in and that was 540
Sask on pre LSS skip ( now not in ) At this time of 17: 40 PST only one signal
is on Post LSS skip and that is KSL 1160. All others normally in are hiding
from this area . Could an afore mentioned Solar Storm have arrived on old
earth.? There's absolutely nothing from Portland, Reno, San Francisco, Seattle
is flat, It's as if it's still light out. What are conditions in your neck of
the woods? Bill in BC.

[IRCA] Common Mode Chokes (Commercial Models)

2012-01-22 Thread Les Rayburn

I'm trying to install two new SuperLoop antennas here in my HOA
neighborhood. Local noise is a real problem, so I'm concerned about
induced currents in the coax. Plan to use
quad shield RG-6 burial cable, and would like to install a common mode
choke or two prior to the coax getting to the receiver.

NO TIME TO WIND MY OWN---so please don't suggest that. Looking to buy
high quality units off the shelf. Can someone make a recommendation?

Les Rayburn, N1LF

2012-01-22 Thread Sylvain Naud

Hi Les,

If you really don't wish to wind your own choke, have a look at this one:
