[IRCA] KHWG 750 Fallon NV Heard in Madison WI

2012-02-12 Thread DXERak

At 0245 CST, I am hearing KHWG 750 Fallon NV in the WSB null. Format is
Classic Country. Signal strength is poor to fair but with occasional good
peaks. This station has a nighttime power of 250 watts, daytime 10kw,
non-directional day and night. This one is NEW for me, only NV #2 in 30+ years
of
AM DX! Distance approx. 1540 miles.

[IRCA] WFIL Heard in Central PA

2012-02-12 Thread Brett Saylor
Heard well here in central Pennsylvania starting about a minute after
midnight ELT with voice ID of test transmission, test & sweep tones, Stars
& Stripes Forever, morse code ID then more sweep tones. Totally on top of
the channel most of the time with WNSR-TN weak underneath, but they did
fade into the background a few times. I am nearly in their fringe contour
for their daytime pattern, so I'm not surprised they came in so well.

Thanks to Rene for setting this up, and glad it got out so well.

[IRCA] WFIL Test

2012-02-12 Thread Russ Edmunds
Needless to say, the test was received here at a little more than 4 miles away
.

During the brief silent period following the test I was able to add one not
heard here before although heard many times when I lived in NNJ, WHYN-MA. I
also had WNSR-TN for a new one overall. There may have been someone else in
there as well, but that will take some digging and filtering of the recording
to determine.

Thanks to Rene' at WFIL for both running the test and also adding 5-6 minutes
of off-air at the end for those of us for whom WFIL is a regular.

[IRCA] Still around

2012-02-12 Thread Tim Hills
650+ unread messages in the IRCA folder and it looks like I've missed
out on some good DX openings.

Haven't posted lately or been able to do any DXing. About all I can
report is that WNAX comes in strong everywhere in eastern SD and the
electrical noise generated by a Kia Sedona while running makes dashboard
DXing impossible but with a better antenna the '97 Continental I picked
up cheap has good possibilities, KELO (day) fades to noise after 30
miles in the Kia but is still readable at just over 100 miles and FM
reception is outstanding with the Lincoln OEM radio. The XYL confiscated
the Lincoln so most of the time I'm stuck with the van :( The
Continental gets better highway mileage BTW.

My job takes all my time from Dec 1st until after April 15th but the
bright side of that is I can get some new toys with the overtime and be
ready for the fall DX openings. :D

[IRCA] MW DX from Enid OK, January 22-February 12, 2012

2012-02-12 Thread Glenn Hauser
All times and dates strictly UT. MW log editors are welcome to excerpt items,
reformat and change to favorite timezone if necessary. Rx: mostly DX-398 with
internal antenna only; some caradio as specified; above 2 MHz on FRG-7 with
110-foot east-west longwire.

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives
without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

** MEXICO. Pre-sunrise MW DX Jan 30; ours is not until 1335 UT:

620, Jan 30 at 1303 UT, instrumental NA, 1305 another anthem, of the state?
vocal by M. 1307 sign-on mentioning 10 kW in Chihuahua, so XEBU in Chihuahua
city, a frequent catch claiming double its listed power.

700, Jan 30 at 1304 UT, soft-spoken YL in Spanish with birthday greetings,
introducing mañanitas in three languages, Mayo, Yaqui and Guarijío. (Mayo is
invariable, apparently different from Maya; Guarijía is OK when feminine is
required.) First one is a guy with guitar, not the usual tune heard in Spanish
about Rey David, etc. 1309 segué to another one with different instrumentation.
1310 back to soft-spoken YL DJ with immediate ID as XEETCH, La Voz de los Tres
Rios, greeting listeners in Chihuahua as well as Sonora, timecheck at 1311 as
6:10; 1312 quick canned ID by M in another language; 1313 start music program
for the three ethnic groups, rustic tunes. Signal is fair but steady with
hardly any CCI, more of a problem being ACI, perhaps KGGF 690 splatter. At 1324
runs a couple of federal PSAs, 1326 YL ID again.

Now there is some CCI growing in English as XEETCH fades, making a SAH of 3 or
4 Hz which I can`t null, likely WLW resurging, which is close to collinear in
the opposite direxion. It`s not unusual for eastward US stations to appear
*after* the westward Mexicans around sunrise, when you`d think the east would
have faded out for the day.

XEETCH is a 5-kW daytimer in Etchojoa, Sonora, one of the federal government`s
indigenous outlets. Here`s all about it :
http://www.cdi.gob.mx/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=862&Itemid=44
including illustrations, linx to a map and audio streaming. Etchojoa is on the
road between Navojoa and Huatabampo at the southern end of Sonora. Some
listings put XEETCH in Navojoa.

870, Jan 30 at 1318 as soon as I intune, ID for Chihuahua`s XETAR, La Voz de la
Sierra Tarahumara, also with YL host, not as good as XEETCH today; XETAR starts
at 1300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 1300, Feb 3 at 1421 UT, news headlines in Spanish concerning
Chihuahua, ``Radio Mexico Noticias``, i.e. XEP, Ciudad Juárez on day power of
50 kW, overcoming Oklahoma half a sesquihour after sunrise around here (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 910, Jan 26 at 2008 UT on caradio, ``KVIS, your weather
authority``, from Miamuh OK, making slight SAH with presumed TX station as
usual, no AH, as someone speculated KVIS could have been source of a het (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 560, Feb 12 at 0538-0541, did not really expect to hear the WFIL DX
test way out here, but checked anyway, and heard only `When Radio Was` episode
of Jack Benny, from about the same direxion, presumably my closest 560, KWTO
Springfield MO. Tried BFO offset 5 kHz, but no sign of any MCW IDs either
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 720, Jan 26 at 2006 UT on caradio, WGN traffic control, weather is
steady and R5, scarcely a sesquihour after local mean noon. WGN can make it on
groundwave over a megameter away, but I think this was skywave. Checked 670,
where WSCR sometimes mixes with KFTT Denver in the daytime, but now covered by
splatter from WWLS OK 640 IBOC. No chance for 780 WBBM or 890 WLS either with
OK stations upon them (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1030, Feb 3 at 1426 UT, ``1030 The Light`` non-ID within the ``Gather
Round Morning Show with Greg Harris`` presenting gospel music, i.e. per NRC AM
Log, the slogan for KCWJ Blue Springs MO (address in Independence, axually
Kansas City market) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1330, Feb 3 at 1415 UT, ``The Wayward Wind`` sung by Patsy Cline as
soon outroed, dominating closer groundwave from easily nullable KNSS Wichita
denying climate change, making SAH of about 4 Hz. From previous logs, I`m sure
it`s KCKM in Monahans TX, which has a CP to raise day power from 5 to 12 kW,
and gets out well on skywave, specially around sunrise skip enhancement time.
Legal sunrise in February for them is now 1330 UT. Yes, then local ads for
convenience store chain, Kent-Kwik? in Monahans and elsewhere in the Permian
Basin; lottery numbers: winners in N TX expected to head for OK casinos (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENIN

Important Notice: A CFAX 1070 News Clip at 1200 PST reported that
CKMO 900 will be throwing the switch on its AM station as the lease on the use

not 100% sure. It was just a one off report as later news updates did not
include this item. I'm keeping an ear on 1070 for a possible repeat.Stay tuned

Re: [IRCA] KHWG 750 Fallon NV Heard in Madison WI

2012-02-12 Thread neilkaz
Nice catch, Bill. I haven't hrd these guys in a few years. CK-750 can be
really pesty when I have some antenna setup that nulls WSB down and aims west.

By far the easiest NV now in the midwest (unless far enuf away from WGN or
WBBM) is 1100 KWWN before they switch to night power as long as you can phased
down WTAM or have it in a deep cardioid patterned antenna null.

Bill..how much room do you have for an outside antenna aimed due west? This
would be great in Madison and knock down Milw area stuff as well. 73 KAZ

We are looking at KHMO and WLIQ testing on the same night one weekend with
WLRB and WLDS testing the same night a weekend later.

The KHMO test will be done on day power/pattern and night power/pattern. it
will likely only be for 5 minutes at the top and bottom of the hour.

The WLRB and WLIQ tests will be done at Day time and Critical Hours Power.
These tests will like be an entire hour of sound effects, odd noises,
sweeptones, morse code and voice announcements.

The WLDS test will be done at full daytime power. This test will like be an
entire hour of sound effects, odd noises, sweeptones, morse code and voice
announcements.

How much advance notice is needed by the clubs for print, email, website
and etc? Do people prefer Friday night into Saturday or Saturday night into
Sunday?

When dates and times are finalized, information on where to send reception
reports will be provided. No one will be at the stations during these tests
as they will be automated but it will required the Chief Engineer of all
the stations, Gary Glaenzer, to be up at 1 and 2am in the morning to dial
in from home.
