Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] 1550 WIGN Bristol TENNESSEE being heard in ONTARIOTonight..........

2012-03-06 Thread Rene Tetro
WIGN has a bad habit of not dropping their power at night. Since I once
worked in the market and have some connections down there, I've spoken to
them twice about it. It's kind of hard to make believe your on 6 watts,
when 35kw can be heard around the country.

What I've found is that this is not done on purpose. The owners are
straight arrows. They are sometimes just a bit sloppy at times when it
comes to technical ops. It's your typical small operation: understaffed,
no real technical presence except when they have an emergency.

2012-03-06 Thread richa...@perryisp.net
Rick:

I've reviewed the recording from earlier this morning. Following the national
anthem of México, at 0109 EST, the station on 780 kHz gave the following
identification announcement: "XHWGR, Exa FM in Coahuila, con . mil Watts
potencia en Monclova, Coahuila". XHWGR, 101.1 MHz, is an Exa FM outlet in
Monclova. Therefore, the station on 780 kHz was surely XEMF. The only other
announcment heard was "Exa FM Radio Equis" at 0202 EST.

I hope this helps.

Buen DX.

I'm guessing that your recording matches what I recorded the other night at
0004 MST (an hour later than your recording) when we were trying to figure
out what this was on 780:

http://mesamike.org/radio/mwdx/audio/dxclips/XEWGR-780-20120305_0004.mp3

So, we did finally figure out that it was XEWGR, Monclova, COAH.

Thanks Dennis.

After looking at GeoClock and listening to TOH and BOH cuts from the same date
from 05-10ut I'd bet what I heard was Tuvalu but about the best audio is still
what I sent the URL to. So prop fits and it sure 'sounds' like a Polynesian
language but I think I'll wait for another Grayland trip to get totally excited.

Cx were not the best this year - at least not compared to what Guy Atkins and I
heard in Feb. 2010:

... but, as someone else has said -- "Even bad conditions at Grayland beat just
about anyplace else!"

I got a little lazy [or in a hurry] too and tried to get away with one-element
DKAZ antennas [one at 240 and one at 335 deg.] They're really good but to
really knock down the domestic crud you need two elements to phase the heck out
of it.

Next time ...

Re: [IRCA] Big-time Mexican puzzle on 780 oops

2012-03-06 Thread richa...@perryisp.net
Everyone:

My error for using the former call. It is, of course, XEWGR 780. At least
that's what the last edition of "Infraestructura de Estaciones de Radio AM"
shows. Last
night they were apparently using their nighttime power. Occasionally the
station runs their daytime power of 10 kW at night.

However, the ID announced at 0609 UTC was that for their FM outlet XHWGR 101.1.

Sorry for the mistake.

Bien DX.

Richard.

[IRCA] Chicago Stations Off Air Recap Request?

2012-03-06 Thread Les Rayburn

I have about thirty e-mails in my inbox devoted to discussions about the
Chicago station off-air periods, and DX tests scheduled

during that time period.

Hate to ask those who have already done so much, but could someone
tackle putting these events into a single "recap" e-mail that
DX'ers can print out for reference? I'm just struggling to get a decent
antenna into place by then.

Much, much appreciated. This is one of the most exciting DX events in
recent memory.

WRTH 2012 shows the sign-on for ZBVI on Saturdays is 0930 UT (different on

I agree. It does all seem a little chaotic. I also could use a concise
snapshot of just what's going to hapopen with not only the stations who will
be silent (and when), but the stations that have actually agreed to a test.
Can anyone help? Maybe even post this on the web?

[IRCA] 900 kHz

2012-03-06 Thread Patrick Martin
I set the timer on 900 last night again and in checking the cassette, I
found XEW at 0200 EST, CKBI at 0300 EAST. 0400 was interesting, on top
again was "Radio Progresso en Habana Cuba" with several IDs. 0500 was
KKRT with ESPN 0600 a mix of CKBI/KKRT, 0700 was KKRT. Except for Radio
Progresso it wasn't a good night. I did catch the Oldies station playing
Supremes music at 0159 in the jumble.
