Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Good News Regarding The KOTZ 720 DX Test

2012-03-10 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Check the time you heard the phone off hook signal, Stephen and I'll tell
you if it was KOTZ for sure.

And as for KDWN shutting off, its not that easy to get a 50KW major market
signal to just shut down.

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Good News Regarding The KOTZ 720 DX Test

2012-03-10 Thread Stephen Airy
I would definitely want another chance to try for them.  I think I heard a hint
of phone off-hook signal once through heavy KDWN QRM in SoCal, but I'd have to
check my recording (which may not happen till Wednesday).  Also it would help
if somehow some downtime could be arranged at KDWN so those of us in Southern
California would have a better chance at logging KOTZ.

Chief Engineer Pierre Lonewolf has graciously agreed to re run the 31 minute 50
second DX test on KOTZ.

He originally was going to re-run it tonight, but I said that's way too short
notice, plus solar stuff and other conditions aren't too great right now.

Anyone wanna suggest or share with me when they think the KOTZ test should be
re-run? I'll pass comments onto Pierre.

[IRCA] ULR DX.......Station # 1, 000 Logged on Ultralight Radios....1140 Radio Cadena Habana!!

2012-03-10 Thread Robert Ross
Hi Guys:

The amazing Auroral Conditions of the past few nights continues..and I am
happy to announce that tonight has brought me 2 NEW STATIONS thanks to the
Aurora. These are Stations # 999 and # 1,000 Heard on a ULR/Ultralight Radio!!
I reported the # 999 Earlier this evening..1220 Radio Globo, Rio De
Janeiro, BRAZIL.

# 1,000 has just been Logged moments ago and details of that Station are shown
below...

Radio Used is..SONY SRF-T615 ULR Barefoot

1140 Radio Cadena Habana CMCH Havana, CUBA Mar/11/12 0154 EST SPANISH FAIR
Heard Under WRVA Richmond, VIRGINIA.
Male Spoke Spanish with Musical Interludes between Talk @ 0154 EST Tune In.
Mentions of La Habana and Cubana @ 0156 EST. Into Cuban Pop Music and SS Vocals
@ 0156-0159 EST. Male Spoke Spanish over Martial type Music @ 0300 EDT (EDT
Switchover).
ID as "Radio Cadena Habana" @ 0300 EDT. Many Mentions of CUBANA. Female also
Spoke
SS @ 0301 EDT. Into more Cubana Music and Spanish Vocals @ 0302 EDT.

NEW STATION ULR # 1,000 ULR LATIN # 45 5 KW?? (Listed)
ROSS, ONT.
**

ULR DXing started for me on Jan/01/2008 when I received a FREE SONY SRF-59
Analog Radio from Gary DeBock as part of his Promotion to drum up some interest
in this tiny ULR Radio...Since then numerous Ultralight Radios have
been used with the SONY SRF-T615 being the ULR of choice. At least 90 % of the
1,000 Stations heard were logged BAREFOOT, using only the ULR's Internal
Ferrite Rod. Several Loops, External Ferrite Rods and a DeBock 7 Inch FSL
Antenna were used on occasion to log some stations.

TOTAL TIME TAKEN to reach 1,000 Stations was 4 Years and 71 Days.

Inspiration to attempt this craziness comes from 3 of my ULR Cronies, and I
dedicate the 1,000th Logging to these 3 ULR DXers!!

ULR GROUP CO-FOUNDER, Gary DeBock of Puyallup, WASHINGTONfor turning me
onto the art of ULR Dxing in the very beginning!! Without his prodding and
assistance...I wouldn't be writing this message!!

ULR GROUP CO-FOUNDER, The Late John Bryant of Stillwater, OKLAHOMA...who
always told me to set Personal Goalsand then laughed when I told him my
Goal was to hear 1,000 Stations on a ULR Radio!! I think I laughed
too...well Johnny Boy...this one is for you!! Now we know the answer to
that question."Can 1,000 Stations be heard on a ULR Radio??"

ULR LATIN DXer EXTRAORDINAIRE .The Late Kirk Allen of Ponca City,
OKLAHOMA...Kirk you didn't hang around long enough to see this happen, but
this one is for you too!! You would have accomplished this feat very soon as
wellhad you been given just a little more time..

I would also like to thank my Radio Buddy RICHARD ALLEN of Perry,
OKLAHOMAwho is currently sitting at 983 Stations heard on a ULR
Radioand will be joining the 1,000 Heard Club very soon!!! His big surge
the past few months gave me inspiration to hit the dials hard and finally log #
1,000.

Thanks to the Many Dxer's who offered DX Tips, and Station ID assistance along
the way. Your valuable input made the trip to 1,000 a little easier!!

TOTAL Hours spent DXing to Reach 1,000 ULR Stations...I don't even want to
guess!! Lets just say it was a lot!!!

clear pips..5 short, 1 long...those are the pips Argentina uses !! LS10 must
have upgraded power or something (noting that Roy on Cape Cod is commonly

[IRCA] Brazil reflection

2012-03-10 Thread Jim Renfrew

Jim Renfrew, Holley NY

Thanks for the nice credit many are giving for the Globo 1220 tip. Jeff
Rostron heard the first hint of Brazil about two minutes before on 1000 kHz.
But I did stumble across Globo 1220 while not looking for it! Sadly 1000
kHz and 980 (which Roy Barstow reported later) are badly IBOCed by my local
on 990. Anyhow, I am very glad to receive Brazil #2.

As for Brazil #1, I first heard Globo Sao Paulo 1100 during an unnannounced
WTAM silent period, January 9, 2003. It was the last thing I would have
expected. Sadly, 1100 is well-known (or was) for non-verifying. I hope
that I can find an address that works for Globo 1220 in Rio.

The ones that got away were a tentative 870 Argentina (before WHCU Ithaca
went full-time), and I think a tentative in the X-band also from there.

I hrd a Musica Cubana ment on 1100.28 and should be able to figure it out when

Don,

Yes, 950 ID was KDSH, but that was before I was DXing. There
were a
bunch of freq changes back in the 60s & 70s, when some
of the old
stations moved to clear channels and boosted to 50KW. Wasn't
KTWO on
1410? Without checking, I seem to have them QSL'd on a

Re: [IRCA] Fun Night for sure!

2012-03-10 Thread Donald K. Kaskey

Hi Todd,

Good to hear from you, been reading your entries on the IRCA net and
enjoying them. My dx memory is leaking a bit, when I checked my old
logs I found I had heard 7 from Hawaii while living in
Galva.550-KMVI, 590-KGMB, 630-KPOA, 690-KULA,760-KGU, 850-KILA &
yes, 1380-KHON...I added quite a few from California in the 50s, 60s
& 70s but not much since. I am currently not dxing as we are in the
process of changing the locale for my radio & antennae (very slowly) to
a better spot, hopefully away from some of my horrendous QRM. Also,
I'm recovering from another knee replacement..7 weeks along the way so
the worst (of the rehab) is out of the way. Thank goodness, I only have
2 knees LOL.Keep up the fine dxing.

Don,

Yes, 950 ID was KDSH, but that was before I was DXing. There
were a
bunch of freq changes back in the 60s & 70s, when some
of the old
stations moved to clear channels and boosted to 50KW. Wasn't
KTWO on
1410? Without checking, I seem to have them QSL'd on a
regional.

[IRCA] Good News Regarding The KOTZ 720 DX Test

2012-03-10 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
Chief Engineer Pierre Lonewolf has graciously agreed to re run the 31
minute 50 second DX test on KOTZ.

He originally was going to re-run it tonight, but I said that's way too
short notice, plus solar stuff and other conditions aren't too great right
now.

Anyone wanna suggest or share with me when they think the KOTZ test should
be re-run? I'll pass comments onto Pierre.

[IRCA] Chicago outage from West Michigan

2012-03-10 Thread Tim Tromp
Results from Michigan this morning and maybe more to surface from the SDR
recordings later:

670: Had Radio Rebelde (Cuba) in strong, relog.

670: Tentative morse code ID from KBOI heard at the "imaginary level" at
08:37:50 UTC. Extreme filtering required and Argo software to visually
confirm what I thought I was hearing. I could pick out a distinct "- . .
." & "- - -", not enough for an official logging, but...

671: Cuba, but this is the first I've been able to hear audio from it, so
new official log I guess.

720: XEDE-AM "La Kaliente" was the dominant Mexican that I heard with Banda
music, new.

720: XEAVR "Radio Fórmula" was heard during the last hour of the outage,
weak under XEDE and parallel to 780, new.

780: XEMTS "Radio Fórmula" was the dominant Mexican on 780 here, new.

780: XEWGR was also doing well with high energy dance music and re-mixes of
various English and Spanish pop tunes, also new.

Also noted in passing: 700 XEDKR "Radio Red" completely over WLW at one
point, relog. KHSE was also heard over WLW briefly with Asian
programming. Some DU hets also visible during these hours: 702, 738, and
some others at the lower half of the band. At the opposite end of the
dial, 1710 khz had "The Big Q" just before the outage, but with a poor
signal.

Thanks to those involved with getting the word out, and those who arranged
the DX tests on such short notice. It was a fun morning since these three
Chicago stations are truly impossible for me to null.

[IRCA] Daylight Saving Time in Mexico.

2012-03-10 Thread richa...@perryisp.net
Daylight Saving Time does not officially begin in México until 0200 local time

However, ten cities bordering the United States will be permitted to change at
0200 local time, March 11, 2012.

The exceptions are are:
Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila.
Anahuac, Nuevo León.
Juarez, Chihuahua.
Matamoros, Tamaulipus.
Mexicali, Baja California.
Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipus.
Ojinaga, Chihuahua.
Piedras Negras, Coahuila.
Reynosa, Tamaulipus.
Tijuana, Baja California.

The difference will be most obvious in the playing of the "himno nacional" by
Mexican radio stations.

Frequency checks - indeed those accounted for many catches in the 60's and 70's

I also have KFQD on 730 (10 KW) QSL'd, but that was from Seward AK. In
those days there were only 15 commercial stations in the state. Plus
another dozen AFRN stations.

590-KHAR-5KW-Anchorage-EZL
630-KJNO-1KW-Juneau-MOR

890-AFRN-300w-Adak
960-WCVQ-250w-Kodiak
1490-AFRN-50w-Eilison AFB

Plus some others AFRN's I don't remember. The only one of the above I
never QSL'd was KSEW as they never replied. Today, I would have been
more agressive to get a QSL.
Even in the mid 60s, stations like KENI and KFQD were pretty much NSP.
KFRB Fairbanks may have been too.
+ KIBH was an interesting station, as the Tital Wave of the March 27th
1964 quake took the station out. KIBH's studios sat up on a mound
overlooking the bay and with the tower behind it. I hung out there after
school as some of the kids did a Top 40 show. The station was on 1340
with 250w. I believe they were on from 8AM to 10 PM daily. When the wave
took out the station, Seward had no station for a while as then the
state's Civic Defense put on the temporary station on 1490. I think they
used the KIBH calls. When we left in 1967, it was still operating from
the library, but the next year they moved to 950 and went 1 KW. A lot
of memories.

The station is most likely XEWGR, Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico. It broadcast
American rock and techno beat music during the time WBBM was off.

I'm just starting to review my SDR-IQ recordings from last night's
"Chicago Off Period". Listening to 780 Khz first.

At 12 minutes past the 2 AM CST, I have a SS station that played "More
than Words" (in English). Followed by male SS announcer. Any ideas on
this one?

I believe that's correct. I also logged KFQD from Syracuse back when they were
on 730 before moving to 750. Back then one could actually expect to hear MT and
ND from the EC as well. I remember the KYMN-1520-OR DX test which I also heard

[IRCA] Good DX night 3/10/12.

2012-03-10 Thread richa...@perryisp.net

Overall it was a good night of DX-ing despite the elevated geomagnetic
activity. I managed to log three new stations using a barefoot ultralight
receiver.

3/10/12
0100UTC 940 kHz WMAC, Macon GA (10 kW @ 1312 km / 815 mi), ABC news, weather
forecast at 0103 followed by "News Talk 940", and "News Talk 940
WMAC" ID''s, fading out under WMIX at 0107. Sony SRF-T615. ULR station #981.

0806UTC 670 kHz KBOI, Boise ID (50 kW @ 1786 km / 1109 mi), briefly with
regular programming, then tones and Morse ID. Test ended at 0210. Fair signal
strength with moderate QRM from Radio Rebelde (con heterodino). Heard again at
0836-0838. Sony SRF-T615. ULR station #982.

1121UTC 780 kHz WIIN, Ridgeland MS (5 kW @ 796 km / 495 mi), fair signal
strength with country music and "US96.3 Country" ID. Slight QRM from WBBM.
Sony SRF-T615. ULR station #983.

I listened for the KOTZ test at 0900 UTC hearing only severe QRM from usual
pest XEDE, Satillo, Coahuila. The previous night XEDE covered WGN most of the
time.

WBBM returned to the air at 0944 UTC. WGN's carrier came on at 0951UTC, with a
full data sign-on announcement at 0959. WSCR came back on at 1000.

My ULR total is now 983 (barefoot 972) from 19 countries in four continents.

Good DX.

Richard.

[IRCA] KBOI heard in south Orange County CA

2012-03-10 Thread Martin Foltz
Last night the power went off at 10 PM per the power company letter. I
listened on my TRF with new batteries.

Summary: Conditions were good, noise level was low (no power in the whole
neighborhood). Heard KHWG-750 and KINF-730 indicating good conditions.

New station heard: 580 XEHO Cuidad Obregon Sonora

Also heard both DX Tests from KBOI but nothing but KDWN on 720 during the
KOTZ test so I tuned out after 5 minutes.

Fun evening. The power came back on at 12:30 PM.

[IRCA] MW DX from Enid OK, March 10, 2012

2012-03-10 Thread Glenn Hauser
All times and dates strictly UT. MW log editors are welcome to excerpt items,
reformat and change to favorite timezone if necessary. Rx: mostly DX-398 with
internal antenna only; some caradio as specified; above 2 MHz on FRG-7 with
110-foot east-west longwire.

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives
without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

** CUBA. 530, while up for the Chicago-nontime, checked again for R.
Enciclopedia: March 10 at 0827 UT, nothing heard, then 0832 some JBA music,
much weaker than 570 Reloj; 0932 some EZL cinemusic, reached fair signal, so
apparently it is still there at reduced power.

670, R. Rebelde, and its presumed relay outside Habana off-frequency 671 making
constant het during WSCR downtime; the two null at the same point from here,
conveniently. Nothing else but KBOI heard with DX test minutes. At 1002 with
WSCR back on, Rebelde network was starting a new broadcast day originating
remotely from Manzanillo (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non: MEXICO]. Here`s my log of the tri-station Chicago downtime
monitoring March 10, all in UT. Times could be off by less than a minute, going
only by the clock on the radio displaying no seconds. All logged on the DX-398
handheld with internal antenna only, inside, on AC power. All of this I write
before reading what anyone else has reported.

670, 720 and 780 are all still going past 0800, but:

670:
WSCR is first to go off, by 0804 as I tune back after checking the other
frequencies. Missed any courtesy announcement. This leaves the Cubans on 670
and 671 dominating the frequency, which are too close to opposite from Idaho to
null for expected KBOI test; but at least the two Cubans do give a sharp null
at the same point in case anything else show up. But nothing ever does.

0807, I hear 4 or 5 sweeps and some Morse code, but uncopied. Must be the KBOI
test as scheduled anyway. Better at 0810-0811 unscheduled time, with 4 or 5
sweeps, code vs Cuba.

0837, I am all set for the only expected repeat of the DX test, and this time
there is an obvious power up/non-direxional switch as promised, since the CMs
suddenly have a big SAH and confront easily audible ``KBOI BOISE IDAHO`` in
code twice, hi pitch, then lo pitch, plus two upward sweeps. A bit of
unidentified music, then repeated same ID in hi, lo pitches, and concludes with
five sweeps before disappearing by 0839.

Thanks, Bill Frahm for doing this and Scott Fybush for arranging it! I think I
have heard KBOI in the distant past before their direxional pattern change, but
ex-KBOI-TV channel 2 much more often. I get this recorded, a bit too loud, but
no doubt about the ID following a bit of the music:
http://www.w4uvh.net/KBOIdx.rm

WSCR is the last of the three to come back on air, at 1002 just in time for a
testosterone-supplement commercial.

720:
WGN goes off at 0806 after referring to their webcast, and Mexican music
immediately takes over and dominates the frequency for most of the next two
hours. Can`t null it completely, but at minimum signal angle, still can`t hear
anything from KOTZ Kotzebue AK, supposed to run DX test at 0900-0930, checking
frequently during this semihour. Except: at 0905 maybe some code, but more
likely a momentary similar musical beat from the Mexican.

At first I think the Mexican is KSAH, San Antonio which I have blamed for
spoiling WGN reception when I am trying to listen to `Extension 720` (we are
close, but usually not close enough to what should be KSAH`s null toward
Chicago); however, now it`s really XEDE, and no trace of KSAH. Most of their
pieces are only 2 or 3 minutes long, with automated time and temp between each.
As soon as music stops, TC by OM, just with the numbers such as at 0813, ``dos,
doce``, next music already starts up making it hard to copy the rest of the
break, but at 0844 it`s super-hype ``Kaliente`` and then YL with temp ``6
grados centígrados``, hearing that numerous times more such as 0824, 0842,
0912; after 0900 it has plunged to 5 degrees. XEDE runs full canned IDs with
SFX near the hour and half hour, such as at 0858 and 0930 mentioning Saltillo,
with their full address in Colonia Universitaria.

At times with XEDE fading a bit I can hear some talk in English in its null:
0819 political call-in; 0938-0946, best at 0942 with a phone number, SAH of
160/minute = 2 and 2/3 Hz, probably KDWN, Las Vegas NV.

At 0951, WGN is first to resume but open carrier only, making heavy SAH of
200/minute with XEDE = 3 and 1/3 Hz (in Nov 2010 I had counted the KSAH SAH
with WGN as 4 Hz); WGN starts modulating at 0959, but nulled, can still hear
full ID for ``XEDE-AM, 8 mil w

Re: [IRCA] Fun Night for sure!

2012-03-10 Thread Mike Sanburn

KBOI 950 from New Jersey is a pretty hot catch. Puerto Rico from the Maritimes
is not too shabby either. I too am hoping that KOTZ will give it another go
maybe next season. It is great fun listening for these outstanding tests. This
season I've heard KRSN, KRPI, and KBOIKOTZ and a couple others got away,
Murphy's Law is in effect so close to St Patricks dayI still remember that
stellar KBOI station tour that Mr. Frahm gave us back in 1995 at the IRCA
convention in Boise, hosted by Frank Aden. KBOI is the very first station in my
logbook by the way. Glad that I can still hear them with the advent of semi
local station KIRN 670. A couple months back I posted a classic KBOI
promotional video on the International Radio Club of America Facebook page. It
should still be up there if you dig far enough back. (I'm not entirely crazy
about their new timeline format). Thanks again to all who participated in these
tests. 73 Mike Sanburn KG6LJU

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] AK and HI non-IL

2012-03-10 Thread Mike Sanburn

Hindsight being 20/20, perhaps if KUAI 720 would have ran a DX test last night
instead of (or in addition to) KOTZ there would have been more loggings. One
can never know too far in advance how bad the auroral cx will be. I'm sincerely
hoping that KOTZ will give us another DX test perhaps in the dead center of
next season. I don't have my logbook out but when KUAI 720 did run a DX test
(15 or 20 years ago (?), I was easily able to log and verify them here in
Southern California). 73 Mike Sanburn KG6LJU

[IRCA] Fun Night for sure!

2012-03-10 Thread George Santulli

Saturday March 10, 2012 All, What a fun night even if I did not hear KBOI and
KOTZ, but the hunt was a lot of fun and like the good old days. I had KBOI
years ago in NJ when they were on 950 with 5k? How in the world was that
possible..oh yeah...it was in the 60s! Haha. Only new one caught last night was
WKAQ 580 San Juan, PR. The tone on 670 which I was hoping was KBOI turns out
to be a het from Cuba...figured it was too strong to be Idaho and never did
hear code id's etc. Great catches to those who did hear them.

Did anyone hear KOTZ? I was listening online...what a great test! Funny sounds,
music and tones, busy phone signals...and nice vox ID's giving directions as to
how to apply for a QSL. Thanks to Pierre Lonewolf. Maybe we can try it again

[IRCA] Last night

2012-03-10 Thread Stewart, Joseph R
I was awake, albeit in bed listening on the Sony 7600GR, between 0300 & 0400
EST or so, and heard basically what everybody else heard (or didn't).
Interesting that Shawn in Winnipeg and Rick in Omaha, both at about 1000 mi.
out from Boise, did hear KBOI testing... as did Jim Renfrew in New York state,
apparently! No joy here-Idaho's not a needed state here but KBOI is a needed
station. I had Rebelde and presumed WWFE on 670... XEDE pretty much alone on
720 (with legal ID about 0357 EST), and a weak mix of Spanish stations (and
maybe some English) on an otherwise noisy 780-nothing IDed there.

Re: [IRCA] Chicago off event

2012-03-10 Thread Craig Healy
I recorded the whole time that Chicago was off on my SDR-14. It was
significant noise level and the carriers on 720 and 780 were barely above
the noise. 670 has some voice and music, but too low a level to understand
it. The 671 Cuban carrier did show, but not all that high. I'll go through
these files over the next few days to try to pick something out.

Solar conditions really did make this difficult.

RFSpace SDR-14 receiver, DX Engineering RPA-1 preamp, 24" untuned ferrite

[IRCA] 720 and 780 this morning

2012-03-10 Thread Russ Edmunds
The AU cx took their toll on these channels as well. WGN was moderate but fady
when on, but when off left only noise. WBBM wasn't as strong as WGN, and only
bits and pieces of presumed R. Coro made it through the noise.

DX'ing during auroras when I was using a Hammarlund and 4' loop and with fewer
noise sources back in the 1970's was different from using barefoot 2010's,
that's for sure.

The noise level was so elevated though that I'm not sure an outdoor antenna
would have helped much. Usually the low end here is pretty bad unless
conditions are quiet. And I think the mild winter may have played a role as
well in not taking the noise level down to usual winter levels.

[IRCA] DX Tests & what was audible otherwise

2012-03-10 Thread Allen Willie

Hello To All,

Only signals heard were actually before the KBOI test and nothing after , on
670 only weakly heard Spanish , Rebelde presumed. 780 also Spanish , presumed
R. Coro in Venezuela weak. Nothing at all on 720.

Checked off and on during the entire tests times using ultralights and larger
rig. Nothing heard, had to settle for online feeds of the tests.

Not much wonder with K Index at 68 and A index at 5

Thanks to those who arranged the tests

2012-03-10 Thread bill kral
Buletin: News Flash, Extra Read All About It!
Another less intense blast is currently travelling at about 4 million miles an
hour and will blast into the planet sometime on Sunday so maybe some abnormal
conditions will result from it. Since the start of the flare two days ago I'm
still not hearing any sign of CBK SK on 540. An SS voice is audible very weakly
so it's hard to make out what they're saying. All others are relatively as
usual at the present time.

If you go by the 2012 WRTH, then that is the correct sign-on time on
Saturdays, Robert. However, on ZBVI's website, especially their "Information
Programs" page _http://www.zbvi.vi/infoprog.htm_
(http://www.zbvi.vi/infoprog.htm) , they list their first Saturday program at
7:00 AM their time, 1100
UTC or 4 AM MST. I can't say if this is their true sign-on time or just when
their information programs start.

[IRCA] 720/780 Mexicans

2012-03-10 Thread Robert Wien
I've ID'ed both 720 and 780 Mexicans heard here during the SP's, both gave
calls and location:

720-XEDE Saltillo, Coahuila Mexico
780-XEWGR Monclova, Coahuila Mexico

Darn, no sign of ZBV1's signon at 3 AM, MST, was this correct signon time?

[IRCA] 670/720/780 results from Colorado Springs, CO (so far)...

2012-03-10 Thread Robert Wien
Results so far from the 670/720/780 SP's and tests:

670- KBOI test boomed in here at? both1:07 and 1:37 AM MST with various code
and tones, heard them come out of nowhere over KLTT and then eradicate KLTT!?
Then back down into the mud.? Beautiful test!

720-KOTZ test didn't make it here, had their online broadcast on my computer
booming, even made some screenprint captures of portions of it, but
unfortunately, nothing // to it on 720, had KDWN coming in weak-fair herewith
local sports show and then infomercials, and an unid. SS in their null, heard
them say "equis" and what sounded like a 5-letter call, haven't ID'ed this yet
but it's a regular here it seems.

780-KAZM coming in reasonably well all by itself with Fox Sports, and in their
null, the same "techno" XE station others have been hearing, with a 2nd SS way
underneath them.? Heavy AU cx tonight obviously due to the solar storms.? I'll
try to ID this one also... signal is decent from them!

I'll give ZBV-1's signon at 3 AM, MST (I believe?) a try shortly... with AU cx,
who knows!

720 and 780 didn't appear to go off right away at 1 AM MST, they hung on till
somewhere between 1:15 and 1:30 AM MST, but they were definitely off at 1:33
AM, MST recheck (720 and 780).

Re: [IRCA] 780 Mexico

2012-03-10 Thread Rick Dau
Still trying to determine the source of the techno music that some of us are
hearing on 780.  Mystery station ID'd at 0403 ELT but took a dive right at ID
time here.  It's not matching up with XETS' stream, and it looks like XEMTS
doesn't stream at all.  :(  It's the only thing I've heard on 780 since 'BBM
went off, and my quest for much-wanted KKOH will have to wait for another day.

[IRCA] AK 720

2012-03-10 Thread Phil Bytheway
No sign of AK test here in Seattle.
Had a pretty good null on KIRO, unfortunately nearly E-W.
KDWN talk the entire time, however, did hear some music underneath on
occasionnever loud enough to understand what was playing.

Thanks to those that put together such an adventure so quick. Maybe next time,
the cx will be better.
