I'm amazed at Alan Willie's TA DX list of snags with an otherwise not so
sensitive little pocket radio and also a little envious since I'm not even

closer to his TAs than I am to my TPs. But anyway whenever he sends in a
report it always mentions the ultralights. I'd like to see what the results

2012-03-31 Thread Chernos Saul

I'd read in Radio World magazine about Jil FM. I didn't realize it was also
going to be operating on AM! It's aimed at younger people. I'm looking forward
to hearing this sometime! 549 really gets out (as does 531). Given that I won't
be at my Burnt River ON DX site until late April, I suspect my next crack at
good listenable TA reception will be in the fall.saul Date: Sat, 31 Mar 2012

Re: [IRCA] pending radio setup in Newfoundland

2012-03-31 Thread Stephen Airy

Allen

I'm curious to know what midday/groundwave catches you might have across the
pond with that setup grounded in the saltwater? :) I've heard of 5kW 560 Miami
(when their transmitter was in Biscaine (sp?) Bay) being heard on a barefoot
Sony ICF-6500W at Signal Hill, NFLD. With some Europeans being in the hundreds
of kW or even a megawatt or more, I wonder if you'd hear any on groundwave
there with a good setup, especially longwave stations? (I haven't heard any
here, but I've got a major urban area between me and the Pacific, which also is
much larger than the Atlantic, especially heading west or southwest from here.)

[IRCA] 1710 TIS query

2012-03-31 Thread Jim Renfrew

Jim Renfrew, Holley NY

When I logged the 1710 kHz Hudson NJ station on FEB 15 2012 I logged it as
WQFG689 and I see that others named it the same in posts around that time.
I am reviewing a Perseus recording from March 22 and I hear a very clear
WQMD689, Hudson County NJ ID.

Are there several stations in the county with different call signs on the
same channel? Are my ears not working right? Have the calls changed?
Anyone from that area willing to give 1710 a listen?

Thanks.

Re: [IRCA] pending radio setup in Newfoundland

2012-03-31 Thread Chuck

Stephen -

I don't know what Allen has heard, but on rental car radios we've heard
a handful of UK stations while driving from St. John's to Cappahayden in
the middle of the day.

I'm amazed at Alan Willie's TA DX list of snags with an otherwise not so
sensitive little pocket radio and also a little envious since I'm not even
getting any TPs with a fairly good full sized portable but then he's much
closer to his TAs than I am to my TPs. But anyway whenever he sends in a report
it always mentions the ultralights. I'd like to see what the results would be
if he used a big rig with adjustable RF gain etc.and something like a loop
antenna. Can we persuade him to do some DXing with something a little more
sensitive -weather permitting ? Bill in BC

Hello To All

Plans are, once the weather clears up I'll be putting out a 300 foot longwire
antenna for both my Kenwood R-5000 and Yaesu FRG - 100 receivers

I'm looking forward to finding out what is out there to be heard on them as
well.

Will be reporting when everything is up and running in the months ahead.

Good DX
