[IRCA] recovery from solar upset
1566 had a barely audible carrier tonight at 0400UT, after several nights of not even being visible on the Spectran display. Unfortunately, I needed to go out, and by 0510 it had pretty well faded. best wishes, Nick ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Auroral DX
Had an excellent auroral night on the 16th. Been too busy to post since then, but I heard lots of rare visitors from AZ, NV, and CA, and even added two new ones. Highlights were: 930 KHJ, Los Angeles, CA, almost alone, with very little sign of CJCA and the several other regulars 1230 KLAV, Las Vegas, NV, only logged once before 1240 KJOP, Lemoore, CA, in nearly every hour overnight 1270 KDJI, Holbrook, AZ and KBZZ Sparks, NV both over the regular Idaho station at times. 1290 KCUB, Tucson, AZ, new for me, with no sign of normally dominant KGVO 1300 KROP, Brawley, CA, only heard twice before 1340 KTPI, Mojave, CA , new for me 1440 KUHL, Santa Maria, CA with no sign of Wetaskawin 1450 KZNU, St.George, UT, way over the regulars from Montana. A very nice surprise to catch a couple of new ones in July.Makes up for the total bust the FM season's been so far. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] My first ever Argentinean
Thanks guys! If it hasn't been logged in Newfoundland yet, so this may have been a first Canadian? ;-) I'm not a QSL guy but I might do it this time. KAZ, I've tried the 870 fx as you suggested and I'm sure I hear Radio Nacional for the accent. I had it mixed with Radio Reloj and some IBOC hiss then unfortunately, I couldn't pick up anything valuable for an ID. As for the 1030 fx, my recording was made in a hurry using a 500 kS/s sampling rate on the SDR (400 KHz wide). The result is that I can only listen between 500 and 900 KHz. I regret not having taken the time to change the sampling rate for a wider recording. I'm confident however that there will be other opportunities as I'll be also putting more attention for ARG from now on. Bill, I should also congratulate you for your Paraguay catch! An half hour earlier that same night, I heard a couple of Brazilians which were also personal first. One is Rádio Uirapurú, Fortaleza (NE Brazil) with ID at 1:17 "...Rádio Uirapuru AM, 760 KHz" http://www.quebecdx.com/brazil_zyh588_760.mp3 Thanks here to Rocco Cotroneo in Rio for confirming the ID heard. [IRCA] Oregon Cliff Ultralight DU's for 7-19
Hello All, Thanks very much to Steve, Nick and Dennis for their excellent and informative DU-DXing reports. This morning was a pretty wild time at the the ocean side cliff near Yachats (Cape Perpetua), with Longwave DX rising up from yesterday's mediocre situation. Radio Rossii was vibrant on 279 and fair on 153, but the big news was an excellent South Pacific NDB-DX opening around 1210. 260-NF (2 kW, Norfolk Island) and 270-FA (1 kw, Samoa) made repeat appearances from last year's cliff DXpedition in August, and a new one was added just above the noise level as 238-KT (New Zealand) barely made it through around the same time. Medium wave DU's were again vibrant, with the Aussies making a super comeback after being missing in action yesterday. 891-5AN was pegging the PL-380's S/N display at 25 for about 10 minutes, and strong enough to hear on a barefoot Sony SRF-T615. A diverse mix of unfamilar Aussies was showing up all over the band at strong levels, making me feel like a rank beginner in DU-DXing. Kiwis were also vibrant, with 783-Access Radio especially good. 1017-2KY was heard again, with many others. Sorry for the short report! 73, Gary ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] WNXT - 1260
Hi All: While WYPC, 1330, Wellston, has been back on for a week now, I'm not hearing a pieep out of WNXT, 1260, Portsmouth. The channel is completely empty. They protect Cleveland, so we're in their null here, but they are usually audible at about the same level as WCHO, 1250, Washington Court House and WHIZ, 1240, Zanesville. All the power is back on now. I wonder if a) they had tower damage, b) I'm having a problem with interference on that channel, or c) if they're a casualty of the terrible economy in that part of the state. Re: [IRCA] TP's & DU's for Thursday July 19, 2012//// Victoria version
Agree with Dennis about the hets, and about Tahiti, just not about the strength, or any hope of Asiatics! Tahiti-738 only one with audio, pretty much imaginary traces at 1220UT, but FF inflected talk was a result of a stronger signal just after 1200UT, but certainly not readable. Otherwise, carriers fairly evenly spread through the band. Hope Gary did better. best wishes, Nick At 13:05 19-07-12, you wrote: Listened from 1125-1251 utc.
