[IRCA] 1280 kHz tone

2012-09-24 Thread Glenn Hauser
While the last three times I heard it, I was sure it was a carrier on 1279 kHz
only, tonight I am just as sure that it`s also on 1281, i.e. instead of an
off-frequency station, someone on-frequency with a 1 kHz tone, 0520+ UT Tuesday
Sept 25. (So unlikely to be findable in the daytime, but tnx to those who
checked). It`s still looping NE/SW of here, pretty weak. It has not been there
every night. Hope someone can locate it.

[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle - 24 Sept

2012-09-24 Thread Bruce Portzer
The highlight this morning was a strong signal from HLAZ, briefly the
best TP I've heard in a long time. Other than that, things were rather
quiet. There were lots of carriers but not much audio.

Here's what the recording produced 1245-1355 UTC.

Good audio
972 - KBS not all that good until 1346 when it peaked with a nice signal
for a few minutes
1566 - HLAZ quite strong with mellow Japanese woman 1247, then gradually
weakened. Fair-good after 1300

Somewhat OK audio
nobody

Weak bits of audio
747 Japan
774 Japan
1035 China, weak CC talk at times, two carriers visible on SDR display:
1034.96 and 1035.00

1053 traces of jamming in the splatter
1476 weak talk 1348
1575 weak Asian talk 1249

Carriers visible on SDR display
558 693 738 756 828 909 936 1017 1062 1098 1134 1143 1205.96(China) 1242
1287 1323(quite good level, 30 db above the noise but no audio) 1386 1557

Presuming all they have to do is add a tower and buy a bigger transmitter.
it could be a month or two.. but then we're into winter, so I wouldn't
doubt it's not until Spring next year that we see KBNH on 1210.

Small (but rather important) correction Paul-that's Burns, Oregon NOT Oklahoma.

I was scratching my head trying to figure out where on earth Burns Oklahoma
could be that it would be far enough from Guymon to allow a station to inhabit

[IRCA] Alberta TP/DUs for 24 Sep 2012

2012-09-24 Thread Nigel Pimblett
I'd have to agree with Gary's description this morning, lackluster.
(though, being north of the border, it would be lacklustre to me!).
A bit unusual in that 747 and 774 from Japan were actually doing quite
well here, but the other big guns were mere carriers. The only other
one with audio was 1575 VOA, which for some reason has done well, at
least in comparative terms, through the recent dry spell.

[IRCA] TP Sept 24, 2012 / Victoria version

2012-09-24 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
I'm beginning to wonder about the "mid-September anomaly". The
various indices stayed low (barring a small burp in the solar wind
density), yet things were quite sparse and erratic, and signals were
generally weaker than they have been. Maybe the skip zone is part
way between China and Japan, hi.

All signal levels here are maximums rather than average; guaranteed
that if you tuned by a few minutes later, they'd be in the
mud. Oddly, one of the more consistent was 1476, consistently very
poor, but consistent. Something else of note was having a few
signals (774, 972, 1575) now remaining audible after 1400UT.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

1287 faded up to this level at 1338 UT, with man and woman in JJ
1566 man in JJ at 1333UT, good on and off for a couple of minutes

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB man in JJ 1340UT
972 HLCA man in KK 1337UT
1575 VoA man in SE Asian language (Khmer per schedule)

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be

understood by a native speaker:

1053 jammer appearing at 1345UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

639 CNR-1 woman talking at 1340UT //6125
747 JOIB woman talking //774 at 1349UT
954 man talking at 1346UT; too murky for any guess at a language
1017 woman talking 1336UT not //774; CRI?
1242 JOLF, woman talking w/excited JJ cadence at 1357UT; hung in long
enough to hear the "cuckoo" pips at 1400UT

1323 woman talking, maybe RR cadence, at 1334UT; if so, CRI
1332 instrumental mx 1339UT; no idea
1476 unID. woman talking 1351UT; way too murky for any hope of
language ID; China has been noted here in the past, with an echo

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

189 279 (maybe a man talking?) 945 891 1251

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-24

2012-09-24 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Overall it was another lackluster TP-DXing session this morning, with a few
strange variations from yesterday. Around 1300 almost all the of the Asiatic
TP's sounded comatose, but a late rally during peak sunrise enhancement (around
1335 here) brought most of the Asian mainland big guns up to at least fair
audio. With the exception of 594-JOAK and 1287-JOHR the Japanese didn't seem to
benefit from the boost, and most of the NHK big guns (like 747-JOIB, 774-JOUB
and 828-JOBB) failed to produce any audio at all. A couple of the big gun
Chinese stations (603 and 639) barely came into audio range during peak sunrise
enhancement, but others (936, 1044 and 1377) stayed down in the noise all
morning. 738 had a moderate het from the Tahiti direction, but no French audio
ever came up. Best overall TP audio was from 972-HLCA (good at times, very late
in the session) and both 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA (fair).

594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Poor Japanese speech rising above noise level
at 1343; signal gone after 5 minutes
603 Hulun Buir, China Very weak Chinese YL speech rising out of noise
around 1338, then quickly dropped out
639 CNR1 China Synchros Poor-fair Chinese male-female speech around
1340; best Chinese signal of the session
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Fair-good Korean male-female conversation
in 2 kHz heterodyne at 1348; best TP signal of the
session
 http://www.mediafire.com/?x5hlm5wyqpq6fom
1053 Korean Jammer Weak buzz coming up through the noise at 1333
1134 KBS Hwaseong, S. Korea (presumed) Wisps of music mixing with
splatter at 1341 during peak propagation
1287 JOHR Sapporo, Japan Rapid Japanese speech rising barely above
the noise level at 1348
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Poor-fair Japanese OM speech during Christian
religious program at 1328; very brief good audio at
1329
http://www.mediafire.com/?wpwo46e1s0b4nqj
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Poor-fair Asiatic language OM speech
at 1330; signal in and out all morning

[IRCA] TP report from Victoria, BC for 24Sep2012

2012-09-24 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Not a particularly exciting morning, but still a few stations of interest.
 SF 134, A2, K0
Nothing heard from DU this morning. For the first time this season, for me
at least, 279 was present with weak audio, although my setup is pretty
noisy in the LW region.
The Japanese were mostly attenuated for some reason today.
639, presumably CNR 1 was heard at fair level. Perhaps one of the best JJ
was 1287. Both 1566 and 1575 were also audible, with 1575 stronger than
1566 often. Therefore, for the 2nd day, 1575 VOA was well heard.
This season there has been a total lack of 1557 Family Radio that was often
well heard in previous years. Perhaps they're off the air with all of
their cut backs. The other first tier JJ stations were present off and on,
but at attenuated levels. 73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC
