[IRCA] If anyone needs 600 WBOB Jacksonville, FLORIDA for their Logbook........

2012-10-17 Thread Robert Ross
Hi Guys:

Just a quick message to advise that I have Logged 600 WBOB Jacksonville, 3
Times in the past week!!! The last 2 Mornings at Sunrise (0600 EDT), I have
heard them with quite good signals. Typical Morning Programming.News,
Weather and Local Ads. Lots of mentions of "Jacksonville" and Lots of WBOB IDs.

The first logging was made last Tuesday evening at 0200 EDT.

So..I'm not sure what they are doing down there in Florida with their 5
KW/1.8 KW Nights Signal...but it's becoming quite reliably heard up here in
CANADA!!

If you need 600 WBOBgive a try early in the Mornings and especially at the
0600 - 0700 Sunrise time!!

Hung off my balcony at a painfully early 13:20 -
Too early for much of anything - but somewhat quieter
out there QRN wise than inside.

The mornings here the last few days have been brilliant

Salmaniw into a early morning sojourn to the water-front
to see what's up, Russian Ferrite loop style.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-17

2012-10-17 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Asiatic TP results here this morning were much closer to Walt's dreary version
than the decent signals reported by Dennis, but with some bizarre twists that
didn't seem to happen elsewhere. Remaining traces of the latest solar tantrum
wiped out all the low-band TP signals except for a ghostly 594-JOAK (and the
season's new regular, 738-Tahiti). While the low band was very poor the high
band wasn't bad at all, with 1575-VOA having some of its best signals of the
season (although highly erratic). The high band big guns on 1134, 1287 and 1566
also had no problem being heard, even when the normally strong Koreans on 972
and 1053 were completely comatose. It was almost like the band had a high pass
filter for Asiatic TP's with frequencies above 1100. 1575-VOA's signal was
unusual in having some decent audio throughout most of sunrise enhancement,
instead of its usual pattern of dropping in and out of the noise. In general
the session was another strange example of twisted propaga!
tion, which seems to be pretty common at this point in the season.

594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Threshold audio (Japanese male
 speech) late at 1402
738 Radio Polynesie Mahina, Tahiti Fair French YL speech
 in and out around 1352
1134 KBS Hwaseong, S. Korea (presumed) Poor-fair music
rising above CKWX splatter at 1350
1287 JOHK Sapporo, Japan (HBC) Fair music at 1349
1503 JOUK Akita, Japan Poor Japanese conversation
around 1343; 594 // unavailable for ID check
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Fair-good Chinese language
Christian program at 1405, but with unstable signals
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Strong Asiatic language
male speech at 1345, unstable but vibrant throughout
most of sunrise enhancement, and best TP of the day

[IRCA] TP for 17 Oct 2012; Victoria version

2012-10-17 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Did a little listening around 1320UT when conditions were mostly Asiatic, big
guns acting a little wimpy. But not as wimpy as after 1400, when rather than
enhancement, we saw disenhancement (disenchantment?) of Asians, with a little
blip from a couple of Australians. I did hear a bit a Gary's upper band
enhancement though, as HLAZ was at its best around 1415UT, and there were good
carriers on 1242, 1422 and 1575.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

none

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB EE lessons at 1326UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker:

747 JOIB EE lessons //774 1326UT
774 3LO likely, w/DU EE by man at 1411UT
972 HLCA at 1323UT, man and woman in KK
1566 HLAZ man in CC at 1413, best strength of the morning for this one.

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

891 woman talking, DU EE sounding intonation, no potential parallels available,
1403UT
1053 KK jammer at 1325UT

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

567 576 1242 1422 1575

best wishes,

Nick

2012-10-17 Thread Rick Dau

In recent months, KLNG has been making it a habit of staying on 2 hours past
local sunset, then signing off, even though, as you pointed out, they are
clearly licensed as daytime-only.  If they stay true to form, they should go
off at 2145 ELT.

And since they are daytime-only, they also should probably not be signing on at
0600 local time, either, as they've been doing for over 20 years.  KTIC-840 in
West Point, Nebraska, also licensed as daytime-only, has been doing this for a
long time, as well.

2012-10-17 Thread Earl Higgins
I'm sure I don't need to remind you, Rick, that 1560 may also be a special
case. Remember a certain station in a certain, shall we say, Iowa city that we
used to live in, that was on 1560 but had to sign off at Local Sunset but was
then allowed to SIGN ON at Bakersfield Local Sunset? To protect New York, which
didn't have to go to their night pattern until Bakersfield Local Sunset?

For folks who may not remember this, that station was KCJJ before it moved to
1630. If anybody remembers more details about this bizarre allocation, chime in!
