[IRCA] 740 is likely WNYH NY - 620 is WSNR NJ for sure - 700 MA is coming in > ON
620 IDed as WSNR at 0100 EST; I would presume 740 - which was parallel before and after the TOH - is WNYH in Huntingdon NY on day power. In the morning I will review my earlier recording of a mention of Puerto Rico in an apparent ID on 740. It takes a lot of signal or very good cx to hammer Toronto on 740. I'm not getting huge Latins overall...some average Cubans. 700 to southeast did have English programming, ID as "Take a ride on Homegrown Radio" and into Neil Young. Suspect Orange Athol MA on day power etc. given that 650 WSRO Ashland MA is in well here. I'm calling it a night... Re: [IRCA] Large Earth-Directed Solar Flare
The post attached below is basically all hype. The solar flare was small and most of the ejected electrons and protons in the coronal mass ejection (CME) will miss our planet. As far as a negative impact to MF AM broadcast band radio wave propagation conditions, some of the incoming protons could increase D layer absorption of MF signals on high and mid latitude paths on the sun facing side of our planet. But it's doubtful that that will happen. However some of the incoming electrons could increase E layer absorption (auroral conditions as we call them) of MF radio signals on high, mid and low latitude paths. The low latitude path absorption would be caused by incoming electrons precipitating down magnetic field lines in a spiral fashion into the equatorial ring current. The latter is doubtful and the former probable but in a minor way. 73 & GUD DX, Thomas F. [IRCA] Discussion Of Daily Solar Space And Geomagnetic Weather
DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER- For Saturday February 09, 2013 Solar activity is moderate as far as the emergence of the number of new sunspot groups. Currently there are 3 new un-numbered sunspot groups and 4 existing numbered sunspot groups. Solar activity is moderate as far as the number of new solar flares, 3 occurred. The largest solar flare in magnitude was a small in size C2.4, not associated with any particular sunspot group, but rather with a filament eruption that occurred at approximately N23W07. The daily solar flux index (SFI) has been above 100 for 10 consecutive days, currently at 107.6. The daily sunspot number (SSN) has languished below 100 for 25 consecutive days, currently (NOAA) at 58. The geomagnetic field has been quiet for 2 consecutive days with the Kp (planetary) index in the 0-2 range. As collected by Potsdam Germany WDC are the 3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals 22110011. Re: [IRCA] [AMFMTVDX] Oldies on 1170
I managed to catch 15 minutes of this before WWVA came on. I think their carrier was still there but not sure - there was a weak Spanish station to my south, blocked by an apparent carrier. IDed Waupun WI, which should not be on, atop the channel with oldies, followed by Iowa also with oldies and "Real Oldies" ID. I have an audio of the Spanish station. I doubt it contains an ID but will review it. I was about to settle in for a night session, make coffee, and turn the computer on to // stations, when WWVA returned. Anyhow the upshot is if you didn't ID the oldies it could be one of two, at least in my neck of the woods.
