[IRCA] MW conditions from Masset 9 to 12 March 2013
Despite the reports from DXers in the south, my long weekend in Masset wasn't quite so dismal. I wouldn't say that I heard anything astonishing, but it did turn out to be a very solid Asian weekend. Not a hint of TA activity at all. TPs were solidly Asiatic, with the Koreans blasting in the strongest, followed by the Japanese, Chinese, and Russian MW (and LW) transmitters. Not a hint of India, nor Bangladesh. Vietnam was well heard on 675 on one day at least. 1575, as others reported was booming in most of the time. Nothing heard cochannel here, though, so I wonder whether the AFN Japanese are still there or not. Also, nothing from Radio Farda either. As always, I have a good selection of Perseus wav files. Sunday morning was the best, in my view. Saturday the weakest, and the other days in-between. I used only a single NW BOG of about 700', and 2 ALA-100 close to right angles to each other. 73 to all,Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Alberta TP for 12 March 2013
This morning I seemed to experience what the guys out west saw yesterday. VOA on 1575 was fairly good at times between 1320 and 1350, but that was all the TP audio to be had this morning. Quite a few other carriers, but none overly strong, and a number seemed of DU origin rather than Asiatic. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] [Amdx] [AMFMTVDX] DX Test most of us missed
I have the engineer's name (it's actually below, so you all have his name) and will be in touch. I would also never mind at all if anyone else - a.k.a. you who are reading this - simply took it upon themselves to contact an engineer, thank them, and let them know that something could be arranged for later on with more notice - and a lot more reports! And y'all know we can make morse code, tones, sweeps and the like. If they're really and truly afraid of receiving mounds of reports - well, don't offer that unless it's a deal-breaker not to, but we can do that too. If EACH ONE OF US contacted three stations...next season could be a barn-burner. Want a sample letter you can adapt to suit a particular station/situation? Or a helping hand to walk you through the process? You know who to ask. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] UNID on 1220 Ideas?
Thanks Paul & Kaz. I set the timer to run the rest of the night, so maybe I got an ID, but the signal is very elusive for running 5 KW. When I hear it, it sure does not sound like 5 KW as it should be more common with WHKW. WHKW is 50 KW, but sends little signal West. But it sounds like KDXR 1480 Gooding ID. They are on 5 KW, then they are not, then they are. Sitting on 1220, I am bound to get that ID in time. However, I fight the off and on over mod from KVAS 1230 Astoria 7 miles away. Their mod varies from day to day. At times the loud C&W splatters all over the place. For some reason, since I left the Eastern Bev unterminated I have a lobe to them on 1230. Strange. I also extended the beverage another 20-30 feet to the last fence post. But overall the beverage does work better and it is more directional to the East on frequencies overall. I guess you win and lose a bit here and there. But I will keep sitting on 1220. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin Seaside OR KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-12
Hello All, Mid-March mediocrity settled in again to the band this morning as only three Asian big guns (972-HLCA, 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA) managed to produce poor to fair audio here from 1415-1510 UTC. Sunrise enhancement didn't really enhance anything, and 1575-VOA failed to receive anything like yesterday's turbo boost. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] UNID on 1220 Ideas?
This is WSLM... "Playing The Greatest Music of All Time" sounds exactly like the slogan one of the satelitte fed CLASSIC HITS services would use. WSLM is known for not powering down, despite their claim they do.. or that they do most of the time and the only time they don't is when someones working on it. For what it's worth, WSLM has a 9KW LPTV signal, WHAN-LPTV. And despite the owners insistance that its on the air, a friend of mine was within 1000 feet of the tower.. and couldn't get a lick of signal from it.
