[IRCA] Iowa TIS's on 1680

2013-04-22 Thread neilkaz
For the past couple years on western antennas I've commonly noted the Iowa
TIS's in the mix on 1680, but nothing like I heard yesterday evening between
about 6:45 and 7pm CDT. X-banders commonly skip in rather early, and I had
WQHC968 (ID's as Quad Cities) almost all alone and very clear for a while.
There was sometimes QRM from WQHC967 (ID's as Iowa City) and by 7 pm Bloomberg
Radio WRJO was starting to QRM them.

These TIS's use computized female voices for traffic info and ID frequently.
I've had the one in Soiux City a few times but still need Council Bluffs which
is the newest of the 4. There's also one in Des Moines on 1670 that can get
thru WOZN.

1680 can be quite wide open in this part of the midwest if you can get rid of
WPRR, so these may be good targets for other DXers. No trace of WPRR was noted
whatsoever during this time frame in the back null of my just installed (for
tests and mods) Double KAZ antenna aimed due west.

[IRCA] TP 22 Apr; Victoria version

2013-04-22 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Another this is April? morning. Asiatics, some at reasonable
strength around 1230UT, with a couple of Down Unders by 1300UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

774 JOUB EE lessons 1232UT
1566 HLAZ man giving the full DXer ID at 1230UT, FEBC, HLAZeto,
Nihongo, frequency and power mentions followed by What a Friend I
Have in Jesus on piano, followed by woman in JJ wishing me a good
evening, then dumped on by local noise. At 1245UT, even the noise
hardly hampered the word for word readability.

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

(the above stations, on their way to and fro)

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be

understood by a native speaker:

594 JOAK woman in JJ 1232UT
675 R. NZ National. 6 high pitched pips 1300UT followed by R. New
Zealand news by woman, weak but quite clear

738 Tahiti woman talking FF, then man 1238UT
891 JOHK man in JJ //594 1233UT. This was more consistent than 594 today.
972 HLCA man talking KK 1241UT
1053 KK jammer 1233UT
1287 JOHR woman in JJ 1231UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

576 woman and man talking, DU EE inflection; 2RN?
693 JOAB EE lessons briefly in the splash, //774 1240UT
747 JOIB EE lessons //774 1235UT
828 3GI 6 pips at 1300UT, slightly louder than NHK2 pips, followed by
ABC fanfare and , presumably, news

828 JOBB woman talking //774, EE lessons, 1235UT
1134 unID. man talking 1236UT
1242 unID woman talking 1303UT seemed a bit late for JOLF

Strongish het, no or near imaginaryaudio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

567 756 837 1008 1179 1251 1593 rough

best wishes,

Nick
