[IRCA] TP 9 Nov, Victoria version

2013-11-09 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Now the geomagnetic conditions are matching the radio conditions;
everything in the bucket. My signal strength recorder says I should
have run the SDR before 1400UT; and the band pretty much died around
1415UT (though it was no great shakes before)

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

nossir

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB man in JJ 1359UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

594 JOAK, a late bloomer, man in JJ 1513UT
1575 VoA likely woman in SE Asian ? language 1441UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

738 Tahiti? pop mx 1430UT
747 JOIB man in JJ //774 1359UT
828 JOBB man in JJ //774 1359UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):648

best wishes,

Re: [IRCA] [DX-tip] UNID

2013-11-09 Thread Earl Higgins
If that was KJNP, it would be the catch of the century! More likely, the
reference to "North Pole"is a coincidence and is actually in reference to
Christmas and it's someone stunting on this frequency, perhaps in anticipation
of a format change, or a return to the air of a formerly silent station.

Not that KJNP is entirely impossible though. It has been heard on the East
Coast of the USA as recently as a year or two ago (on a DX expedition in
northern Maine). I believe George Sherman in Minneapolis heard it back in the
80s during a DX test. Still, in this day and age it would require a large
amount of land and phased beverages, or a set up such as Neil Kazaross has in
Illinois and Wisconsin.

So the question remains who was it? You don't give much information such as
time of day or interfering stations or equipment used. The 800 pound gorilla in
the room is WWVA. Where were they? You would certainly want to rule them out
before any others. After that, other stations which should be at least somewhat
regular in your location would be Tulsa, Davenport and possibly Jackson
Minnesota which seems to get out pretty well. Although the South Carolina
beachside station WDEK is a daytimer, they can often be heard "accidentally" on
the air at night. Certainly all of these should be ruled out before any thought
of this being Alaska.

Keep monitoring the frequency and give us as many details as you can, and the
information is helpful.

[IRCA] (OT) Programming on Klassic 540 Tonight 11/9/13

2013-11-09 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
My friend down at Grenada's Klassic 540 has told me about some interesting
programming tonight, I'll be listening and I encourage everyone else to
tune in. Here's what's going on...

The Klassic Radio Announcers play whatever music they want. One of their
announcers, Godfrey has gotten really cocky and thinks he is king music and
everybody loves his choices. So a few weeks ago another announcer, Andre
challenged his selections and lostOn two consecutive Saturdays.

So, my friend at Klassic 540 who is the Sales Manager has challenged him
this week. They have to play music from 4 categories Regional,
 International, Country and Christmas.

They will go tune for tune and the has to public call and vote for which
song they prefer

This takes place TONIGHT (Saturday 11/9/13) from 5pm to 9pm Eastern time
which is 6pm to 10pm in Grenada.

You can listen online by going to http://www.klassicgrenada.com or
searching Klassic 540 on the Tunein App.

I helped my friend Janelle, the Klassic 540 Sales Manager by giving her a
few classic country titles she should play. You can call in and vote for
her selections as the better ones by calling (473) 435 2041

Re: [IRCA] Daytime DX November 8, 2013

2013-11-09 Thread Mark Durenberger Mobile

Thanks Nick.

It's our weekend for the Mack CO DX-Pedition: Two Bevs at 60 and 95 degrees
and two Double-Kaz antennas looking Northwest and Southeast. In spite of
the A and K numbers I think now that we'll look North and Southwest with the
D-Kaz's.

With the Bevs we plan on tracking the terminator beginning at LSS in the
Maritimes and working across the country. That means starting at 2 PM here
in Colorado, looking East.

sunset DX from northern Japan and Asiatic Russia. (their local
sunset, not ours, hi)

Nick

Hi Nick,
MW here was just very weak carriers on a few channels when the Russian long
waves were heard at 0540 utc. Thursday night MW TP stations showed up at 0649

best wishes,

Re: [IRCA] Good DX to All in Cappahayden

2013-11-09 Thread Allen Willie
RE:

High winds diverted John and I to Deer Lake after a failed landing attempt at
St Johns. Arriving four hours later at St Johns left little time for auto
travel and purchase of provisions. So Jean got a short wire from the house to
the beach set up and that's all til tomorrow. Not much unusual heard. I'm
whipped after waking up at 1:45 am to get to Toronto, so off to sleep. Z.

Good Luck in Cappahayden guys

Hope you have a great time there like I did working the DX in Northern Bay
