Frank,

Had one, facing another. Do what they tell you, but pay attention to
what your body tells you.

Hope your recovery is speedy.

[IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 22 Nov 2013

2013-11-22 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Well, the blanket lifted a little bit here today, after a few days
of virtually no TP audio. Didn't start until late (1415), but at that
time had JOBB from Japan on 828 with fair audio. For some reason 774
JOUB, which is most often the kingpin, was only an anemic carrier. A
few minutes later HLAZ on 1566 was noted with fair audio, improving to
good by 1430. By 1445 I had also noted audio from 1575 VOA Thailand,
China CNR1 on 1593, and the Japanese on 693 and 774 (which eventually
rose to a weak audio level, but remained weaker than 828 throughout the
session).
In general the high band was much better than the low, with plenty
of carriers above about 1100 khz. The second tier Japanese on 1242,
1287, 1422 were very close to audio at times.I suspect the coast
enjoyed a much better day today than yesterday.

Indeed, though much better than nothing is not necessarily a morning
in early October. (how's that for a cryptic comment? Something
that a guru on a mountain top might say)

At any rate, I think HLSA-603 was the loudest, but there are chunks
of the NetSDR recording that I should look at before passing final
judgement, as there were a couple of frantic moments. But as Nigel
observed, it didn't start until late, 1510UT, 20 minutes before local
sunrise; it was quite dead before that.

More later; off to work.

best wishes,

Nick

2013-11-22 Thread d1028gary

Nigel, Nick, Walt and All,

It's nice to hear that some TP life exists north of the border.

As for this location, it's been a dreary couple of weeks for Asian audio, with
this morning's propagation fitting right into the morbid pattern. On the other
hand, it's been a great time for antenna improvements and other projects :-)

[IRCA] TP 22 Nov, Victoria version

2013-11-22 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Nice little bit of sunrise lift this morningno Japan really, just
Korea, China, Taiwan...even a couple of fair audios.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

603 HLSA briefly at this level //558 w/ female ballad and KK talk by
deep voiced man 1523UT; had actually been around since 1445UT at
lower levels, and distinctive syncopated pips poked through at 1500UT.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

1557 likely "1557 Music Interactive Network" from Taiwan w/female pop
mx and woman in CC at 1534UT, followed by man in CC

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1566 HLAZ woman in CC 1540UT; heard more weakly 1410UT, and during
the JJ program before 1345UT
1593 CNR1 also around on and off for some time, noted as early as
1342UT w/CC talk by man, but there was a drought between 14 and
1500UT. Best was deep voiced man then woman in CC 1526-27UT //6030

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

558 HLQH deep voiced KK man //603 1523UT
594 man talking and musical interlude 1513UT. I'd guess JOAK, but
this morning, all bets were off.

648 unID woman talking 1524UT, really too much splatter for language guess
1314 unID talk by man 1526-8UT, preaching? Would fit with DWXI, and not JOUF
1377 CNR1 woman talking 1530UT, //6125 and 1593; there was someone
else there trading places with this w/female pop mx, western style.

1422 unID woman talking 1534-1535UT, had a CC sound to it rather than JJ

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

621 1143 1242 1287 1323 1503

best wishes,

Nick

Boy with Wisconsin off this one really gets out well now, or maybe they
increased modulation? They never used to be this strong at night.

[IRCA] 560 KWTO

2013-11-22 Thread Forrest Skaine
So I had some rare down time after work this afternoon right after 1500CLT.
My day job just happens to be near the best groundwave hotspot in the city.
580 WIBW was almost equal to WKTY. Normally everywhere else in the metro
WIBW is audible just in WKTY's audio pauses.
The real surprise for me though was on 560. All of this time that i have
lived here, I had thought the interference on WEBC was WIND. Well I got out
my Tune-in app and the audio and it matched KWTO! WIND had Michael Nedved
and he didn't have a woman on his show at the time.
I know KWMT on its directional array makes it down to Northern Texas. KWTO
clearly makes this the farthest daytimer heard on my car radio or any radio
for that matter on a daily basis. If I had a antenna set up that
compliments groundwave, it makes me wonder if I could pull audio out of
KLIF on 570.
Also just an FYI their was just a touch of skywave in but only on the X
band.
