[IRCA] WDER 1320 Derry, NH

2014-01-28 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
WDER 1320 Derry, NH confirms it was their station I logged about 9:29
Eastern on Monday 1/27 coming out of David Jeremiah's "Turning Point" into
a WDER weather forecast.

Signal was very poor under CJMR 1320 Mississauga, Ontario and I only heard
a partial "W**R" call letter mention during the forecast, but in checking
"Turning Point's" website, the only stations on 1320 carrying his show are
WDER Derry, NH and KSIV Saint Louis, MO.

Not bad for a 1KW/4 tower night pattern beaming NW towards Manchester, NH

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-28

2014-01-28 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

The winter doldrums continued in full force here this morning as another
lackluster sunrise enhancement boost barely managed to raise up some high and
low band Asians to anemic levels. I haven't seen any report from Dennis yet,
but if he was taking a break this morning he certainly didn't miss very much.

Once again a comatose band at 1430 showed weak signs of life around 1500 as a
presumed 738-BEL2 (weak Chinese) and 972-HLCA managed poor audio in and out.
The usual high band regulars didn't come out of the noise until "sunrise
enhancement" kicked in around 1515, when 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA both managed
fair audio in and out of the domestic splatter. Of these two diehards 1575-VOA
was the more energetic this morning, reaching very brief good level peaks
around 1535. Around 1530 the low band once again managed a ghostly collection
of anemic Asian mainland signals from 603-HLSA (with no Chinese co-channel),
648-VOR and 657-Pyongyang-- none of which stuck around for longer than a minute
at a time. These wispy low band Asians bailed out early around 1540, when a
fair-level 1575-VOA was the only Asian left with any audio on the band. The
session seemed dreary indeed, but probably no worse than an average winter
morning. The two exceptional January sessions of 1-18 and 1-24 are to!
ugh to forget, and expectations are probably a little too high.

At 0300 WABH is audible here but playing back Perseus the noise
continues in momentary WABH silences, so noise isn't apparently linked
to volume levels.

[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on 28 January

2014-01-28 Thread Bruce Portzer
It wa a rather dull morning for TPs, with a brief modest enhancement at
about 1520-1530. Taiwan 1557 did quite well, but otherwise there
weren't any exciting catches today.

Here's what I found when I went through the SDR recordings

Good - Mostly understandable by a native speaker
1557Taiwan, loud with pop songs 1518, men in Chinese 1527

Fair - A native speaker would have recognized a few words and phrases
1566HLAZ, discussion in Japanese 1253
1575VOA, English ID and start of Burmese program 1530

Poor - I could tell something was there
747woman talking 1349
774bits of talk in KTTH splash 1324
972Woman talking 1329, then music
1116Music 1529
1422JOLF, JJ talk 1522

Interesting carriers: 1098 1206(on channel) 1332 1359 1404 1503

[IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 28 Jan 2014

2014-01-28 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Rather a poor TP morning here in southern Alberta, with only one
station delivering any audio. What was unusual was that the one station
was 1557 Taiwan, which was surprisingly strong in relation to the other
regulars, as others noted this morning. Even 1566 had only a carrier
(though near audio at times). What was interesting there was a second
carrier, about 30 Hz high. Weaker overall than HLAZ, but about even in
strength for brief periods.

[IRCA] TP 28 Jan, Victoria version

2014-01-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
An odd morning, with a bit of an enhancement where 1557 pretty ruled,
and 1287 had two stations, neither of which sounded like JOHR.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

nothing quite made it today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

1557 Music Interactive Network man in CC 1529UT
1566 HLAZ man and woman in JJ 1301UT; nothing quite this "good"
during the CC program

1575 burst of VoA theme mx at 1530UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

738 Tahiti woman in FF battling the splash 1449UT
972 HLCA likely, female vocal mx 1527UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

603 HLSA? male ballad 1344UT
612 4QR male talk, on and off until just past 1400UT when ABC news
fanfare was heard, and woman started talking

909 unID instrumental mx traces 1526UT
1287 unID woman talking sounded CC, instrumental music also that had
an oriental flavor, not usually JOHR's style

1314 woman talking, could have been JJ 1524UT
1422 man mumbling in splash, maybe CC? 1534UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

747 774 828 891 1098 1116 1224 1269 1404 1503

Listened again to the recording, and after
comparing what I heard with the very fine "How to

there is no doubt I was listening to

Boy, that really was listening on another planet,
