Well, I guess that was a coast wide phenomenon (or lack of it) that
day, Derek. It's great to have another DXer checking in from
outside the Pacific northwest...or southwest if one looks at it from
a Canadian perspective, which even Canadians don't do

best wishes,

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 2-18

2014-02-18 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

There was a distinct improvement in Asian propagation this morning compared
with the last couple of days, although it still wasn't anything really
exciting. There were some good TP signals on both the low and high bands,
though, with a fairly generous sunrise enhancement boost from 1440-1505.

My session started at 1420 with fair low band audio from 594-JOAK and 603-HLSA
already in, along with similar signals from 972-HLCA,1134-KBS, 1566-HLAZ and
1575-VOA. Increasing daylight around 1445 boosted the signals of most of these,
and also brought in fair signals from 657-Pyongyang and a presumed 738-BEL2 (in
Chinese, at 1502) as well. Unfortunately some local electrical noise kicked in
around 1445 on the very low band, but 603-HLSA (around S9 level) was strong
enough at 1448 to punch right through it with the typical Korean pop music.
657-Pyongyang's orchestral music was also strong enough to be heard in and out
of the hash at an anemic level, but the noise was enough to bury 594-JOAK's
fair signal for the duration. On the high band 1593-CNR1 also got a boost from
sunrise enhancement to reach a fair level around 1455, and 1566-HLAZ managed
very good signals at the same time. The strongest Asian signal of the morning
was from 603-HLSA, however, which demonstrated very p!
otent strength during sunrise enhancement to get through the local electrical
noise. Overall, the session seemed to favor the low band Asians, with only
1566-HLAZ showing much energy on the high band. Increasingly early daylight
caused all of the TP's to bail around 1510 here, with 1566-HLAZ the last one
standing.

603 HLSA Namyang, S. Korea S9 level Korean
pop music at 1448 over fairly strong local
electrical noise; best TP signal of the session

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 2-18

2014-02-18 Thread Derek Vincent
A nice repeat of yesterday here. With lots of carriers in the mid band. The
jammer on 1053khz was doing its thing with a two stations on 855khz. 873khz had
a super carrier, but no audio. The usual big JJ stations were there with 666khz
producing audio.. (I never here JJ on 666. It sounds like CC.

972khz had the best audio punching through S7 noise (power lines 30ft from
antenna) level at 1130 utc and the carrier fading at 1630utc.

http://snd.sc/1mrHhez

1566khz was there, but petered out leaving a weak off freq het...

Thanks

[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on February 18

2014-02-18 Thread Bruce Portzer
This morning's TP DX was similar to yesterday's. There was no sunrise
enhancement at all, and nothing at the upper end of the dial except for
HLAZ and a couple of carriers. Most of the action was on the lower part
of the band at 1300UT give or take an hour.

Good - A native speaker would have understood most of it for brief periods
774JOUB, Weather report 1306, English lesson 1324 briefly good at
these times. Fair-nil at other times

1566HLAZ, 1344 woman closing the Japanese service for today

Fair - A native speaker would have recognized a few words
972HLCA, Korean talk 1238

Poor - Incomprehensible mumbling
693JOAB 1307 weather //774
747JOIB, cheerful sounding female, apparently part of language
lesson 1256

828JOBB, faint talk 1231, faint pips 1300
981Very poor talk in CKNW splatter 1215
1053Korean jammer 1231
1170pips, possibly parts of two sets of them 1400 during pause in
KPUG audio

Carriers 594 729 738 756 864 891 945 954 963 1422 1575

[IRCA] TP 18 Feb, Victoria version

2014-02-18 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
A quiet morning, in that there weren't a lot of carriers, but many of
those that were there produced audio at one point or another, but
still, nothing very strong. Sunrise enhancement was 1566 and a bit
of 603, but not spectacularly.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

972 HLCA likely, flute mx fading down somewhat to woman in KK 1320-1
1566 HLAZ man in JJ 1332UT; but also later w/ man and woman in CC 1504UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

603 HLSA? soft mx 1454UT, fading down to man talking and syncopated
pips on hour, fading back up to soft mx after the hour

828 JOBB woman in JJ 1421UT, no parallels right then
1287 JOHR woman in JJ 1305UT
1323 CRI, bit of an outlier, with tail end of chimes and fanfare and
CC ID by man and woman 1300UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

738 Tahiti? man talking FF inflection 1308UT
747 JOIB pips at 1400,but weak; a little stronger by 1407UT w/talk //
possibly w/ even weaker 774.

774 JOUB? EE lessons ? 1325UT
1116 4BC? man talking, DU EE inflection 1321UT
1332 JOSF? man talking, JJ inflection? 1331UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

594 612 1143 1179 1242 1314 1422

best wishes,

Nick
