[IRCA] TP 3 Mar, Victoria version
An odd morning, in that there weren't many decent carriers, and the ones delivering audio were not the regulars for the most part. You know things are strange when your best signals are from the Philippines. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): not today Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 1215 DYRF? woman singing slowly 1341UT, faded up to this level 1346UT with woman talking insistently, sounded Tagalog to this untrained ear. Sounded like a phone number given "858-9684" but can't get that to match up with anything. Unfortunately I was still in bed when this was recording, but I can't find a webstream anyway. Per a priest's blog site, http://fielsvd.wordpress.com/2014/03/01/new-programs-at-dyrf-radio-fuerza-by-march-2014/"We have just acquired a powerful 12 kilowatt Nautel digital transmitter. With the advent of this top of the line transmitter, our coverage has greatly amplified. We have enveloped totally the whole Cebu province with our broadcast. To date we are also constantly receiving text messages and calls from listeners coming from various towns in Bohol, Ormoc, Leyte, Negros Oriental and Occidental, Surigao del Norte, Siquijor, Zamboanga del Norte, Agusan del Norte, etc. And indeed we are excited even as we celebrate this latest development! " Darn good transmitter, I'd say. Guess I should send a report? not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 1314 DWXI woman in Tagalog 1431UT, followed by man as it faded. This was the only overseas audio on the band just then, tracking its webstream. Below is a capsule review of a beta tester who is on the WTFDA lists. While his review is FM-oriented, some of the points are more general. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-3
Hello All, Moderate Asian propagation returned to the low and high band this morning, but it wasn't much to shout about. My sunrise enhancement session didn't start until 1415, so I apparently missed out on some of the earlier propagation reported by Dennis. Around 1415 both 594-JOAK and 603-HLSA were already in with fair audio, along with a weak Chinese co-channel on 603. There was also poor Chinese audio from a presumed 738-BEL2 in the KCBS splatter. All of these signals were in and out for the next 20 minutes, but didn't seem to get much of a boost from the increasing daylight. The high band had the best signal of the morning-- 1377-CNR1, which hit a fair to good peak (in 1380 splatter) around 1430. 1503-JOUK, 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1 were also in and out of domestic splatter with poor audio from 1425-1435, but never stuck around for more than a minute at a time. All of the Asians seemed to fall off a cliff around 1440 here, ending a pretty lackluster session (although a definite improvement over yesterday's miserable propagation). 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) C.Crane SWP 7.5" Slider loopstick Ultralight + 12" Experimental FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] KIKR-AM 1450 Beaumont, TX
A little bit of trivia regarding that 1450 out of Beaumont...back in 1970, when it was known as KAYC, one of its announcers was legendary DJ Al Caldwell, who also moonlighted as the emcee for dances at the local Knights of Columbus Hall. On February 10th of that year, he had the privilege of presenting a fledgling local blues-rock trio that was playing its first-ever live gig at the KoC that night: ZZ Top. 73,Rick DauSouth Omaha, Nebraska To: a...@nrcdxas.org; a...@yahoogroups.com; irca@hard-core-dx.com From: stephen_pon...@sbcglobal.net Date: Sun, 2 Mar 2014 15:55:46 -0600 Subject: [ABDX] CBS Sports Radio - KIKR-AM 1450 Beaumont, TX, and KBED-AM 1510 Nederland, TX While waiting for my wife to come out of the local HEB grocery store this afternoon on our way home from morning worship, I decided to see what I could hear on the radio in the Highlander.
