[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-7
Hello All, The Asians finally managed a somewhat decent sunrise enhancement session this morning (for March, that is). While still in the predawn darkness prior to the 1400 TOH there was already very good audio from 972-HLCA, along with good audio from 594-JOAK. Those two big guns set the pace here this morning, although their signals were in and out throughout the session. Some anemic audio was also received from 558-HLQH (fair at 1408), its // 603-HLSA (fair at 1410), 657-Pyongyang (poor at 1415), a presumed 738-BEL2 (poor at 1413), 1566-HLAZ (fair at 1418), 1575-VOA (fair to good at 1425) and 1593-CNR1 (poor at 1422). The Asians stuck around a little longer this morning before collectively bailing around 1435, with 594-JOAK and 972-HLCA the last to sink into the noise. It wasn't a particularly exciting session, but after the past few days any improvement is welcome. 594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair-good NHK news by Japanese male at 1402 http://www.mediafire.com/listen/q00aaannktqpxjm/594-JOAK-1402z030714SWP.MP3 972 HLCA Dangjin, S. [IRCA] AM Radio Needs Strong Medicine
Radio World has a nice article out about comments filed with the FCC by the National Alliance of AM Broadcasters. While DX'ers may not agree with all of them, I think we would favor the majority. I also applaud their response pointing out that half measures (which the FCC is very fond of) will only prolong the demise of the AM Band. Saving it will require some bold action. The elimination of corporate influences such as IBOC would be a great place to start. Time to admit that the emperor has no clothes (IBOC won't work on AM) and move on to another digital solution, or better analog fidelity. http://www.radioworld.com/article/am-%E2%80%9Cneeds-strong-medicine-to-survive%E2%80%9D/269227 -- 73, Les Rayburn, N1LF Maylene, AL EM63 Member NRC, IRCA, Medium Wave DX Circle Former CPC Chairman for NRC/IRCA Perseus SDR, SDR-IQ,Funcube Pro, Wellbrooke ALA-1530+ loop, LF Engineering Active Whips, Quantum Phaser, Kiwa Loop, Palstar MW Pre-Selector ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on March 7
This is more like it! Today was possibly my best morning of 2014 for TPs. Conditions were like what I would expect in mid September, with many stations producing audio, even though some were quite weak. Many intriguing carriers showed up as well. I can now hear a carrier on 1458 now that KARR-1460 is gone, but no audio yet. The SDR files revealed TP signals throughout the time I recorded 1150-1455, with the Korean on 9 still there when the recording ended. VOA-1575 was impressive today, and a few others had their moments. Oddly enough, HLAZ-1566 was at subpar levels today for some reason. Good - a native speaker would have understood most of it, at least briefly 594JOAK, man woman 1357, time pips 1400 then man possibly with news 774JOUB Chinese lesson 1332 972HLCA, 2 men in Korean 1243, fair at various other times, still there with Korean talk 1453 1575VOA, 11424 very nice with news pgm in Cambodian, mentions of Vietnam and Crimea, 1428 close by woman mentioning voacambodia.com, theme mx, 1429 English ID, 1430 another English ID, Yankee Doodle and start of Burmese pgm Fair - a native speaker would have recognized a few words 693JOAB, JJ talk 1359, then time pips at ToH 747JOUB, Chinese lesson // 774 1350 819DPRK, angry Korean woman in KGNW-820 splatter 1336 1503JOUK, Japanese male surfaced briefly a few times 1420-22 1566HLAZ,Chinese male 1415 Poor -ranging from one notch above imaginary to one notch below understandable 567weak male talk, sounded Japanese 1328 648faint talk too weak to ID language 1430 729JOCK? weak talk sounded more like JJ than CC 1350, 594 too weak to // 738Bits of talk 1342 756Good carrier, very light modulation 1406, bits of talk, maybe Chinese but too weak to say for sure 828JOBB, 1337 faint talk //774 963talk, possibly in Russian 1426 981traces of CC-like talk 1446 1044very faint talk 1226 1053Korean jammer 1355 1557woman talking in heavy domestic splat 1414 1593CNR1, a few syllables of Chinese male talk in KLFE splatter 1425 Carriers 657 837 846 936 945 954 1017 1035 1134 1323 1332 1377 1386 1422 1458 ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] TP 7 Mar, Victoria version
Vastly superior to the past little while, though I'm not sure I would go so far as Bruce did in his description. 24 January still has some very fond memories for me. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 594 JOAK woman in JJ then man 1336UT 1575 VoA man in SE Asian language banging in 1435UT when pretty much everything else had faded, most for good.
