[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-21
Hello All, Well, it had to happen sooner or later-- it seems like Dennis and I were on different TP-DXing planets this morning. An unusually potent sunrise enhancement around 1345 brought in some exceptional low band signals, including the best signal ever received here from the 10 kW NHK1 station 531-JOQG. The band didn't seem like anything special at the 1305 start of the session, with only 594-JOAK, 693-JOAB and 1566-HLAZ managing fair audio in and out of the noise. Nothing much changed until the first hint of daylight around 1330, when 594-JOAK and 693-JOAB began to build up their strength, and even 531-JOQG started coming out of the noise as confirmation of a low-band Japanese trend. The NHK1 big guns on 747, 774 and 828 also started doing well, along with the Korean big guns on 972 and 1053. Around 1345 a potent sunrise enhancement boost raised 594-JOAK up to an excellent level in and out, and brought 531-JOQG (with the same NHK1 program) up to an intermittent good level-- its best signal in 7 years of TP-DXing here. 603-HLSA also participated in the sunrise romp, managing its best signal so far in 2014 with Korean pop music (and the deep-voiced male announcer) at 1355. As Dennis reported, 648-VOR was at a fair to good level with its Chinese service at 1358, while 657-Pyo! ngyang also had similar signals with its orchestral music before the 1400 TOH. The high band didn't seem to receive any similar boost, however, with 1503-JOUK, 1566-HLAZ, 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1 all staying at fair levels (at best) throughout the increasing daylight. The low band Asians seemed to fall off of a cliff around 1410, though, by which time the anemic high band TP's had already long since packed it in. Best signal of the interesting session was from the Japanese low band leader 594-JOAK, reaching very good to excellent audio from 1345-1350. 531 JOQG Morioka, Japan Fair to good NHK1 interval music and Japanese YL speech at 1353-- best signals ever received here http://www.mediafire.com/listen/c13351wbdhp1w8f/531-JOQG-1353z032114SWP.MP3 594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Very good Japanese YL speech at 1350-- best signal of 2014 so far here http://www.mediafire.com/listen/p1dbe97nikakj9h/594-JOAK-1350z032114SWP.MP3 603 HLSA Namyang, S. [IRCA] KCKM Test tonight, WWXL tonight or tomorrow night
Sorry for my earlier confusion re KCKM-1330, which as Steve, Paul and others correctly note is TONIGHT: KCKM-1330 Monahans TX Saturday March 22 (Friday night into Saturday morning) 0101 to 0130 *Eastern* Daylight Time / 0501 to 0530 UTC So that is certain. I checked with Paul Walker who arranged it and he confirms it. It's the 1450 WKXL test where I think we may have conflicting information - a few of us seem to have tried last night, without success, after a posting on at least one list, as follows - and I quote: If you heard the DX Test from WWXL-1450 intially scheduled for last Saturday, March 15th, you DID NOT hear it. However, good news . Regrets for the late notice, but the schedule of station personnel is very fluid at the moment, so we take what we can get (and are EXTREMELY grateful for the re-schedule of this test). For TONIGHT/early tomorrow morning: March 21, 2014. 12:00-1:00 PM EDT (0500-0600 UTC). WWXL-1450, Manchester, Kentucky will conduct a DX test at a power of 1,000 watts non-directional. End of quote from last night's post... But this update has 5 fours between UTC and EDT, when there should be four, and there's PM that should probably be AM. Now, the original time and date the 1450 WKXL test was rescheduled (after the engineer couldn't make it to the site due to car problems) was as follows: WWXL-1450 Manchester KY Saturday March 22 (Saturday night almost into Sunday morning) 11:00 to 11:45 pm Eastern Daylight Time / 0300 to 0345 UTC But, pending further information or a clarification, it would seem to make sense to look for the test and/or record from 0300-0600 UTC (2300-0200 EDT) BOTH tonight and tomorrow night. Just to be safe. My best guess and hunch is the WWXL test will be tonight, given that no one who checked heard it last night. Anyhow, that's what I'll be doing. I'm not taking any chances after spending an hour in the deep snow and ice untangling and setting up my directional flag (aimed wsw). Despite the confusion, I'm really grateful to all those who have conducted, arranged and communicated about the tests. I apologize again for mixing up the dates re KCKM. Again, it's TONIGHT... [IRCA] TP 21 Mar, Victoria version
Not too much happening until 1340UT when a mild sunrise enhancement lasted until just after 1400UT, generally a poorer morning than yesterday. Nothing unusual was heard; the most out of the ordinary DX was the post sunrise signals after 1500UT, when 972 appeared with mildly readable KK talk by woman, 1287 delivered its only audio of the morning, though very poor, and 1017...well, what was that? A woman talking rapidly, sounding CCCRI was supposed to be off at 1500UT, and 5965 had a Russian talker (CRI from Beijing?), so, a 1017 mystery. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 594 JOAK. Woman in JJ, man on the phone 1354UT 1566 HLAZ. Man preaching in JJ 1257UT. An hour later, woman in CC, then man, but not quite as strong as this. Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 1422 JORF? Male vocal mx, sounding like Enka? 1356UT; must have known I get a kick out of this. Best signal in awhile on this channel. 1503 JOUK. Woman in JJ //594 1346UT 1593 NHK2. JJ talk by woman, CC lesson theme mx, 1359UT, best NHK2 signal just now. not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 567 JOIK. Man in JJ //594 1343UT 738 Tahiti. Two men in FF 1236UT, would have been quite readable if less splash 774 JOUB EE lessons 1245-6UT 972 HLCA. Woman and man in KK 1336UT Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 603 HLSA? Spiritual style of vocal by woman/ 1350UT, a little before Gary's more normal HLSA recording.. 747 JOIB. [IRCA] KCKM test made it to Bowie, MD/ WWXL test didn't (was it on??)
Test heard amazingly well at a distance of 1800 miles from Monahans, TX with various sweep tones, code, other sounds, and some very distinctive music, faded in/out with 3 other stations out here (2 Spanish and a religious station), but very happy to hear this way out here, the test made it to at least WI, TN, OR, and AB, so nationwide! Definitely heard here, was a regular in Colorado Springs, CO where I used to live... Tried for the WWXL-1450 DX test all the way from 11 PM until 1 AM EDT, heard nothing in the way of code or anything, so gave up, doesn't sound like it ran... [IRCA] KCKM Test reaching SWEDEN right now!
KCKM is reaching Sweden right now! I'm hearing clear sweep tones, morse code and the telephone sounds right now at 0531 UTC on a remote Perseus SDR located way up in Haparanda, Sweden. Amazing! I made some video captures of the reception that I can post to Youtube if anyone is interested. The test also heard well here on my own Perseus in Michigan. New station here, thanks to all involved. 73, Tim Tromp West Michigan ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
