[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-15
Hello All, Asian signals made a very halfhearted recovery this morning, with three big guns managing anemic audio during sunrise enhancement around 1500. 693-JOAB was the most persistent of the three, hitting fair peaks in Vancouver splatter for about 10 minutes. Unlike yesterday, at first check at 1400 there were some moderate carriers on 594, 693, 1566 and 1593. These were still at similar strength at 1430 while still in the darkness, joined by a weak carrier on 1575 a few minutes later. Most of these never reached audio, but a sunrise enhancement boost at 1455 brought 693-JOAB up to fair levels in and out, and both 1566-HLAZ and 1593-CNR1 up to poor levels. 693-JOAB stuck around fighting CBU splatter until about 1510, when it joined the other anemic Asians in sinking back into the noise. [IRCA] Fort Lewis-1500 (WA) Flips to NOAA Weather
Hello All, For those who may have interest in Washington state TIS stations, on the return trip from Grayland on November 8th I made the usual I-5 transit of the Fort Lewis (now JBLM, or "Joint Base Lewis McChord) army base and noticed that the low-powered 1500 kHz TIS station was no longer broadcasting any messages related to the army base itself. It was relaying NOAA weather reports for the western Washington state area, similar to what the 1610-Aberdeen TIS station relays (or did relay). I don't know if this change has been reported previously, but the station has been heard outside of Washington state, including by Patrick in Seaside, OR (who showed me a QSL letter that he received from the army base). Not a keeper by any means... pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): a distant memory Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 594 unID, a 20 second long fade up from nothing to quite good level 1454UT, man singing western opera, then gone back to barely readable 30 seconds later. Man talking, maybe JJ, at 1455UT. not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: the above, whipping by, both directions Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) 1575 VoA? woman talking just before 1500UT, but down to a mumble by the hour. It is more like Classic Hits, than oldies, but it is well buried now. KTTO Spokane is dominant with EWTN. Again, not audible off any antenna but the Eastern Beverage, so I figure East. Checking the website for WATH 970 Athens, OH... they have a list of the artists they play as a sample of their classic hits format and they do list Santana. They do have a webstream and I did just hear them say "The greatest hits of the 70s... the greatest hits of the 80s". WRHA 970 Spring City, TN is also classic hits and they do have a webstream. Unless a station recently changed formats or I'm missing something else obvious.. these two seem like they could be candidates. It very easily could've happened. .something printed on paper weeks or months ago could be out of date just days after it was printed if someone changed formats. I used radio locator as a guide, and checked some stations close you not even listed as classic hits or oldies... I think we're all missing something.. someone changed formats or ... was running a special music program on a station whos usual format is not classic hits. I once worked for a station that was news talk by day and classic hits at night. Now I found the WATH stream, I cannot hear the UNID on 970. It looks like it may be gone. If this is the case, then I am more apt to believe it may be some distant lp skip. I guess the 95.5 gave it away "if" that was the oldies station, but in a jumble anything is possible, but there isn't any sign of it as yet. KBUL is fairly rare here. KGNL 790 is common. Thanks guys. Congrats to Brian on the XESW logging. Amazing about the weekend format at KBUL'Seems like just yesterday we were all at their 4 tower array in Billings taking pictures. (love me some IRCA conventions) If memory serves me didn't WABC 770 in New York do something like this a few years back? While very much a talk station they did a throwback to their days of ruling top 40 radio with oldies on weekends.
