[IRCA] TP 26 Nov Victoria version
A complete dog this morning until after 1500UTaha sunrise enhancement, upper portion of the band was just about singing for, umm, six minutes, 1518-1524UT when it just fell off the cliff. Fun while it lasted. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 1566 HLAZ woman and man in CC 1523; by 1524:30 pretty much gone, and didn't come back Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 1593 CNR1 man in CC, 1521UT woman talking underneath maybe NHK2, but no parallels available not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 1422 JORF assumed, brief peaks of man in JJ 1517UT, otherwise, lots of mumbling by man and woman Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) 774 JOUB pips at 1500UT, and musical intro to lessons? Pretty much the last heard of it though. 1242 JOLF likely man talking animatedly, sure sounded JJ, but just too much splat; pretty steady 1515 to 1517UT, so a little outside the 6 minute boost. 1467 man mumbling 1521UT, not //woman on 1593 so perhaps the more powerful Korean rather than NHK2? Actually, almost certainly, as it was parallel with 1584 which was slightly stronger, so by gosh, HLKN. 1557 Taiwan? & ? pop mx and man talking, sounded like two stations 1522UT. My old link to the stream for 1557 is dead. Searching this evening tells me that http://www.rti.org.tw/player.php is the place to go now. (also: http://music.rti.org.tw/music/) 1584 KBS1 bits of mx, man mumbling, 1521UT, //1467. Woman talking 1522UT a little clearer, but she was pretty imaginary on 1467 by then. Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter) 747 1278 1332 1386 1404 1458 1494 1539 1575 best wishes, Nick ___ ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-26
Hello All, Asian propagation stayed in the tank for one more session this morning, with only weak heterodynes showing up on 972, 1053 and 1566 kHz around 1430. Lacking any real interest in waiting to see if sunrise enhancement would boost up these miserable signals to weak audio levels, the decision was made to bail out early, and use the time more productively-- not just for this morning, but for the mornings to come in what is left of the lackluster "Fall Season." It has become pretty clear that Asian propagation during our local sunrise period is no longer capable of delivering any signals except the big gun TP's-- and even those usually sound anemic or ghostly when they do show up. Chasing ghostly audio each morning from the likes of 774-JOUB or 1556-HLAZ isn't really my top hobby priority, especially with various antenna projects and receiver modifications on the drawing board. This season's solar activity has really cut down the strength and variety of Asian signals, with only about two good days in September, three good days in October and maybe one this November. The propagation drop off since November 8th has been fairly drastic-- making it seem like the Asian season is heading for an early demise. I have greatly enjoyed sharing daily TP-DXing reports with Nick, Bruce, Dennis, Nigel, Colin, Walt, Guy and Bill this season, and especially with Richard in Oklahoma-- who amazingly came away with quite a few TP receptions so far inland despite the dreary propagation. I wish Nick the best of luck if he chooses to continue chasing Asian TP signals each morning-- and suspect that he will probably need it! With next year's DU-DXing season unaffected by the solar activity (and even likely to be enhanced by it), it's time to work on new FSL antennas that should track down energetic South Pacific DX on the Oregon cliffs next summer. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) 7.5" loopstick Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight + 15" FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] 1710 W807 Chicago
I spoke a couple nights ago with the operator of Chicago's 1710 station W807, who called me after I left a message via a phone number given on-air that led me to a neighbourhood business. It's not a Part 15, and is best classified as unlicensed. It runs between 35 and 100 watts. The country music, the hard rock (Radiohead and others) - they're all W807. It runs a lot on weekends, sometimes during the week. Station's name is derived from the vacuum tube. For more info: facebook/w807am (not sure if capital or lower case, I simply accessed it via Google). Google the station creatively and you can find his name, and more. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] unIDs
Thanks to everyone for your thoughts on the 1440, et al.It was the 1440 I heard, probably WPRS (hence the possible dual WIBQ-WPRS ID). But the catch is so low-grade that even knowing this and hearing portions of each of the two calls, I don't think this log is up to snuff for inclusion as a definite catch. This is a good incentive to spend more time on 1440 when grey line is in post-sunrise. Paris IL isn't too far away. Even at 1000 watts I should be able to nab this with my west antenna and a little patience. If I can get W807 1710 out of Chicago, I can get WPRS. These lists rock! I logged WROK 1440 from RI as a kid 40 years ago. I recall it was a MM and overnight. I see I need all 3 IL stations in 1440 so it'll be a good channel to work post-sunrise, as was the case this time. Thanks, Barry! Have you had any of these three from Ottawa? I've logged two of them here, but that was long ago (WGEM in 2001 and WPRS in 2002, both on SRS), before my local noise level became intolerable. Ah, the good old days... sigh.
