[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 2-3

2015-02-03 Thread d1028gary
Hello All,

Asian reception wasn't bad at all this morning-- as long as you like 1566-HLAZ.
The big gun Korean station blasted in with a huge signal around 1518 to reach
its strongest level of the new year, while most of the other Asians struggled
to reach audio level at all.

At my 1430 start time it was already pretty obvious that the session was going
to be an HLAZ show, with the station at a fair to good level in the darkness
while no other Asians were managing better than a weak carrier. Around 1450
some low and middle band TP's started making a halfhearted attempt at audio,
with 594-JOAK and 972-HLCA managing some poor to fair peaks in domestic
splatter. 1593-CNR1 also started flirting with audio around the same time, but
none of these came close to HLAZ's potent signal. Around 1518 its Chinese
Christian service hit a monster peak, with the new C.Crane Skywave signal level
bar graph pegged for the duration. 1593-CNR1 was a poor second at the time,
struggling to get out of the Seattle splatter for more than a few seconds at a
time. Overall the session was truly a one-station show, with sunrise
enhancement boosting 1566-HLAZ's signal to one of the strongest levels ever
heard here in Puyallup.

1566  HLAZ   Jeju, S. Korea   Music, female and male Chinese speech at an
exceptional level during Christian program at 1518; best signals of the new
year

2015-02-03 Thread James Niven
Paul,

I picked up this station on April 22nd 1979 while living in Australia.
I was on a DX-pedition to Port MacDonnel in South Australia right on the
coast. There were three of us on this trip Sam Dellit, Harry Weatherley and
myself listening on our Drake SPR-4's in those days with 600 metres beverage
to Africa.
That same morning we also logged 746 Voice of Kenya, 1368 Radio Seychelles,
and Radio Vatican 1530, plus a lot of other Asians and African station.
I have a recording some place on my tapes, will need to dig it up!

Thanks for the memories!!

KKXA is fairly normal reception for me here here despite it's
directional pattern, usually the signal is a bit weaker and there's a
spanish station fighting with KXA

Depending on which way the wind is blowing and which way i turn my
raido, it's either a mariachi band or George Strait being heard on
1520

Conditions today were about average by winter 2015 standards. Once
again, I only had a few pathetic little carriers below 1300 kHz. Above
1300, things were a lot better with several tantalizing carriers almost
producing audio and some with weak audio. HLAZ was the strongest of the
lot, though not as spectacular as what Gary described. The most
interesting catch was on 1422, where a Chinese speaker took the place of
the expected JORF.

[IRCA] TP 3 Feb Victoria version

2015-02-03 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
As others have said, it was HLAZ's morning, though here it wasn't the
powerhouse that Gary heard.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

1566 HLAZ peaking at this level 1523UT with CC religious broadcast,
but had been in from 1415UT with a usually readable signal; had
collapsed by 1530UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

the above passing through

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

774 JOUB? woman talking JJ inflection 1454UT
1116 man talking, DU EE inflection 1509UT
1314 bassy pop mx 1522UT, man talking energetically, maybe JOUF?
1593 CNR1? man talking CC inflection 1517UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

972 1098 1188 1242 1503

best wishes,

Nick

2015-02-03 Thread Nigel Pimblett
HLAZ was also the top dog here, although all that really meant in my
case was it was the only station with audio for most of the session. It
was at a fair level for most of the time I listened between 1425 and
1445. The VOA did show up for about 5 minutes on 1575 around 1435, but
that was all there was for audio.
