[IRCA] early TA's in Alberta Aug 30

2015-08-29 Thread Don Moman VE6JY
Just a heads up in case it turns into something... Just a bit after
sunset, lots of hets and 1422 had had time pips at 0300 and reasonable
audio, yl in german. Also 0303 yl in French on 1557. Was just checking out
the new Eu beverage I installed today.. 2100 feet at 38 deg. Significantly
better - more signal and less noise than the other 1000' Eu wire.

[IRCA] TP 29 Aug Victoria version

2015-08-29 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Minimalist DXing yielded quite a lot this morning...

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

no

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 and 576 came close at times

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

576 2RN man talking DU English 1315UT; noted //792 and 621 at other times
594 JOAK man in Japanese 1307UT; weaker NHK pips had been noted at 1300UT
774 3LO woman in DU English 1250UT, noted //702 1251UT
891 5AN? woman talking to another woman on phone, DU English, 1323UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

612 4QR woman and man talking //702 1317UT
621 3RN lively jazz clarinet //576 and likely 846, 1313UT
702 2BL woman talking 1251UT //774
738 Tahiti? pop vocal 1200UT
792 4RN walking bass line //576 at 1317UT
828 JOBB NHK pips at 1300UT
846 2RN lively jazz clarinet, almost certainly //621 but this was
weak and 621 was weak and splashy

1386 man talking 1137UT, too much splash to guess at language
1548 4QD w/ ABC news fanfare 1300UT, man talking

Strongish het, no or near imaginary audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

855 864 1008 1035 1116 1323 1503 1512 1566

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] XEQ 940

2015-08-29 Thread Saul Chernos
I noticed XEQ huge on my Tecsun ultralight at 1 am Saturday morning when I
arrived at Burnt River for a quick overnight stay (am now back in Toronto), and
that it seemed very much back on channel, where it's supposed to be. This will
make 940 much more bearable to listen to if XEQ is truly fixed.
Also had Mexico on 1060 and presumed with weak Spanish bubbling on 1110. I had
to be up for a 9 am hike this morning so didn't work the dials much more than
this. Cx are no doubt ramping up for the coming season.

 Subject: [IRCA] XEQ 940

Last night, I had a good shot at XEQ 940 including a full ID from 1:15:

 http://www.quebecdx.com/mp3/mexico_xeq_940b.mp3 (08-28-2015 03:58 UT)

This time, frequency was quite at nominal, even a few Hz above I would
say (1 to 5 Hz according to the current calibration, which might need a
 refresh).

2015-08-29 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
That's pretty impressive after the upsets of the last couple of days
Don. Nothing here so far, but will look for some sunrise at the
transmitter activity, though I am lacking a Beverage antenna like yours.

best wishes,

Nick
