[IRCA] TP 14 Nov Victoria version

2015-11-14 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

DXing was even harder work this morning.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

no

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

no

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

and no...

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

612 woman talking 1504UT , maybe DU English?Might have heard the
cadence of "ABC News" in there, but really, it's desperation
talking. There was country music earlier, so possibly the Saturday
Night Country program?

702 woman talking 1403UT
774 man talking, sounding Japanese, but no pips at 1400UT. Not
//702, so it wasn't 3LO.

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

1566 1575

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-14

2015-11-14 Thread d1028gary
A single band check at 1420 confirmed that clunker conditions were still in
full force, with only 738-Tahiti managing weak audio. Unlike Colin and Nigel I
didn't stick around to see if increasing daylight would bring the Asians out of
the noise, although high band heterodynes on 1575 and 1593 did have moderate
potential. Having heard both VOA and CNR1 quite a few time previously, I
decided to forego the ghostly audio search in favor of antenna work.

Re: [IRCA] TP 14 Nov Victoria version

2015-11-14 Thread coffee_canuck
In my sesh, 1415 until around 1505 UTC, I enjoyed around 20 seconds of arm
chair audio on 1575 kHz VOA - around 50 minutes prior to LSR.

Despite what Nick's fish barrel indicated: gd. Signals occasionally on 702,
774, 828, 846, and a few others...
I had none of it - periodically I would encounter largely pretend snippets of
something remotely resembling "modulation" on 603, 612, 702, 738, 774, 828,
837, 909, 1026, 1098 and 1116.

It was the skantist (is that even a word?) of sessions. I found myself gazing
at the ceiling of my shack while listening to network radio on CBC 690 dreaming
of a time when the ionosphere was less hostile.

Ah well.

Thoughts and prayers for the people of Paris, Beirut, Bagdad suffering from
terrorist aggression - and to our coalition forces pursuing ISIS - God speed.

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 14 November 2015

2015-11-14 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Little in the way of audio this morning, though 1575 VOA was doing pretty
well at times, starting at 1345 tune in to past 1430. The only other one
with any audio at all was CNR1 on 1593, which finally struggled to the
audio level by 1430, and was at a poor-fair level for a few minutes before
fading away. Nice to hear that, as China has been extremely rare in
Alberta this season. Below 1500 was only carriers, at least some of which
seemed to be DU. Oddly, the next best signal was at the other end of the
dial, with quite a strong carrier on 567 around 1430.

At 2:59 PM PST when the conservative talk program ended so did their audio. I
was able to hear KDIA 1640 ID Vallejo with a call letter ID. Now a 3:06 PM PST
KDZR back on with a talk show hosted by Hugh ? KDIA can be heard underneath
KDZR signal. The open carrier allowed me a new catch for the IRCA DX contest.
