Re: [IRCA] 1566-China (Yanbian Jammer) Information

2015-12-01 Thread Chuck Hutton
Nick:
AsiaWaves is your friend. Alan lists 1566 Yanbian PBS as:
Jamming transmitter against South Korean station (FEBC).//1053 kHz.
so naturally it would be parallel to Yanbian PBS 1053.
I take it that in this case "jamming" means "powerful interfering broadcast"
rather than "noise transmission".

[IRCA] TP 1 Dec Victoria version

2015-12-01 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Not much later action as Colin and Gary observed; there were hints of
Australians both early and late. And, early had more and better signals.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

today? no.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

828 JOBB woman in Japanese, then man 1159UT, fading to pips on the
hour. 774 and 747 also there, but pretty faint.
1566 HLAZ likely organ music accompanying choral singing 1329UT; very
weak return with woman talking 1528UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

774 t3LO man talking DU English, other man on phone 1353UT seemed
//702 a few minutes later, but not quite sure.

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

594 JOAK woman talking, Japanese inflection 1159UT, pips at 1200UT clinched it
702 t2BL man talking, DU English inflection 1358UT, seemed //774,
but too much offset to be certain?

1053 Korean jammer 1339UT
1116 man talking in murk 1531UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

576 846 891 972

best wishes,

Nick

I wonder which station on 1053 would be parallel Chuck? It seems a
little odd that China would rebroadcast what is supposed to be a
jammer in South Korea.

scanning the dial today(12/1, Tuesday) around 445-450pm central I came across a
jumbled mess on 1150khz.
In the span of 20 minutes, I heard 5 stations on 1150.. KZNE Bryan, TX with
several clear mentions of Brazos County Texas KNED-AM 1150 McAlister, OK
with classic country music and WJBO Baton Rouge, LA with Sean Hannity.
I heard a 4th and 5th station, the 4th one I dont remember. but the 5th one was
True Oldies WJRD Tuscaloosa. Heard at 5pm central straight up with "W271AM ,
WJRD Tuscaloosa.. True Oldies Channel 1150am, 102.1 FM WJRD" into music.
They are 20kw ND Day and 1kw/4 towers, southeasterly pattern before.. I've
never logged them before, but one would think if they were on 20kw they'd be
alot stronger then they were.. but their night pattern is beamed AWAY from me.

Thanks Chuck and Colin for your help! I did actually go to TuneIn Colin, but
for whatever reason the link wouldn't play - possibly the server was down
but more likely the Eastlink servers were having one of their several times
a day hissy fits.

Anyway, I'll add it to the log, and go in and see if I can hear the ID like
you can, Chuck!

Re: [IRCA] 1020 NE

2015-12-01 Thread Saul Chernos
Hi Rick,
Yee-haw. I was pretty sure I've been getting them, and a Spanish speaker (from
Mexico) on WTFDA Forums nailed the ID that I had a partial read on. It was only
bonus last night to also pull in New Mexico on 1020 running Spanish religion (R
Vision Cristiana). That was an easy webstream //. NM is a relog but probably
just the 2nd time ever had that one here. A new catch from NE doubles the fun.
Thanks for listening to the clip!!!
The NE 1020 station (Mexicana format) has been getting out well lately at
sunrise and possibly after sunset.

Just now finally had a chance to listen to the clip. I was able to make out
enough of the ID at the beginning to say that it's definitely my local on 1020,
KMMQ. The music at the end is banda, heavy on the tuba and trumpets.

Thank you Phil -- no panic at all -

Web design is 1 part destination, 3 parts discussion and 5 parts journey -

You don't know when you are going when you set out and you are never sure
you have arrived.

the hobby itself is kind of like that.

QUESTION: Who can swing me a membership so I can have a look at how the
"insides" of the old webpage are laid out?

Hi everyone - I was going through some files from a few days ago, and I came
across a station on 910 kHz that I believe to be YVRQ, but I am not yet
familiar enough with formats and IS to be able to ID with any certainty. If
someone has a minute (precisely 2 minutes and 23 seconds, actually) I would
appreciate if you could have a listen and let me know what you think.

At the TOH there are 2 what sound like doorbell chimes, but any ID that is
given between them is not audible for me. The music is wonderful.

Thanks in advance!

Michael

Just now finally had a chance to listen to the clip. I was able to make out
enough of the ID at the beginning to say that it's definitely my local on 1020,
KMMQ. The music at the end is banda, heavy on the tuba and trumpets..

Luxury! You were lucky to have worms. I got up a half an hour before I had
to go to bed, I tuned the dials of all my radios for 36 hours
straight and when I was done, each and every one of them shorted out
killing me instantly.

Actually - my only morning activity today was a glimpse at 1520 UTC and
there were numerous carriers on an assortment of frequencies including
702, 738, 747, 774, 828, 972, etc through to 1566 khz none of which
possessing the courage to display much in the way of plumage.

Kind of depressing when you consider how quiet the GEO stats have been -
but I guess this is what you would call the dreaded Mid-Winters Anomaly...

Chris says that this Chinese was from 1566-Yanbian, recorded in the null of
HLAZ (when HLAZ was broadcasting away from Seoul). The announcer's voice (and
the programming style) also don't sound anything like HLAZ's usual Chinese
announcers or religious format.

Mauno,

That 1566-Yanbian recording was made by Chris Kadlec in Seoul (S. Korea), and
the only information he gave along with the recording is pasted below. As you
can hear in the MP3 there is a noisy background at times, with a sound like
whistling shots of gunfire. This is the first 1566-Yanbian recording I've ever
heard with this noise in the background, so I don't know if it was typical of
that station's audio. I'm going to ask Chris if he can provide us with some
more 1566 recordings so that we can find out. Maybe Bill W. has heard something
similar with China's jamming of VOA programming?

Re: [IRCA] 1566-China (Yanbian Jammer) Information

Gary,
I know all that. I asked, because this sound sample was at the end of
the original posting:

What's the message of this file?

Mauno,

The Yanbian-1566 Chinese station has always used the PBS programming in an obvious attempt to block the reception of HLAZ in China, a practice which Bill W. says is also frequently done by China in attempts to block VOA and other stations it doesn't want its people to receive. It does not use a noise jammer like the 1053 station in Korea.

It hasn't shown up for me at home either, Nick, but it was pretty obvious during a trip to Ocean Shores, WA last April (in female Chinese, under HLAZ's male Japanese). By coincidence, this was apparently the first week that the 1566 Chinese HLAZ Jammer started to broadcast, according to Hiroyuki Okamura of Yokosuka, Japan.

[IRCA] Dec 1 2015 Western Shore

2015-12-01 Thread Michael Yule
A few Spaniards today, including this one that I haven't received before.

1. SPAIN (pres) - 954 kHz Onda Cero, fade up at 22:59:20 UTC when rcdg
starts, clearly SS language commentary, perhaps news commentary. I don't
have the lang skills to determine content. No ID @ TOH AFAIK and no time
pips. Signal strengthens towards 23:01, then fades again completely.
Mentions of the Estados Unidos, no other listed SS stations on the
frequency.

z%2030%20Nov%202015%20225920%20UTC.mp3?dl=0

Thanks for the tips about the EMWG from yesterday. I ordered one
immediately.

Kind regards,
