[IRCA] Western Shore 4 Dec 2015

2015-12-04 Thread Michael Yule
Hi everyone - not much time this morning, but it was all Spain all the time
last evening. I haven't had the time to look at most of the files yet, but
here is a couple of new ones for me:

1. SPAIN (pres.) - 918 kHz Madrid Radio Intercontinental 3 Dec 2015 2158
UTC, man and woman in SS. No clear ID. Signal much better at TOH than prior.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6jy6ai2p1yf5q1l/Radio%20-%20Radio%20Intercontinent
al%20918%20kHz%20Madrid%203%20Dec%202015%202158%20UTC.mp3?dl=0

2. SPAIN (pres.) - 1026 kHz (unid) Star Wars theme mx at start of rcdg with
ID and ID again @ TOH after pips. I can't find anything on the web to tell
me which one of the Spanish regionals this is, but I think that someone
with good SS lang skill would be able to tell from the rcdg.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8j73a9e56c5aj9x/Radio%20-%20unid%201026%20kHz%203%
20Dec%202015%202158%20kHz.mp3?dl=0

BTW for the ELAD FDM users, is there a way to set the AF High Pass default
value to something other than 0Hz? I prefer 131 Hz in most instances, and
it's a bit of a pain to have to change it manually each time I change IF
bandwidth. Thanks!

Kind regards,

Michael

Re: [IRCA] TP 3 Dec Victoria version

2015-12-04 Thread coffee_canuck
All barely there if that qualifies - and at the same time, the FB shows the
exact same thing...

Most days I feel that chopping down the trees that hold the antennas would
improve the reception. When I put up the Flag antenna, I thought I could hear
anything at anytime. Now I hear largely nothing all of the time despite Geo
reports. Hearing carriers now is a treat.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 12-4

2015-12-04 Thread d1028gary
A couple of high band Asians actually managed ghostly audio this morning around
1545 after rising from the dead late in sunrise enhancement. Both 1566 and 1575
hit threshold level for a few minutes each, despite the fact that neither had
even registered a carrier prior to 1515. Not exactly an escape from the
December Doldrums, but somewhat of an improvement over the past few days.

[IRCA] Drake R8

2015-12-04 Thread Bill Block
This last summer the Drake R8 had problems and did not work very well so this
week I sent it to John Kriner in Ohio for repair.  The turn around for repair
is 4-6 weeks so for now I will be using the ICOM IC-R75.  The R75 is nice but
it is not a Drake R8!

[IRCA] Alberta TP for 4 December 2015

2015-12-04 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Like Gary I noted improvement this morning, but I'd go a bit
farther and say quite dramatic improvement. Actually the best morning
here for several weeks. Rather unusual too in that Japan didn't seem to
be a factor. There were so-so carriers on 594, 693, 774 etc. but
nothing approaching audio. The audio was all on the upper band, as were
the strongest carriers. 1593 wound up being the most potent signal,
with HLAZ not far behind. A few more mornings like this would

rekindle the morning motivation!

1305	unID	Faint audio with man and woman talking at 1452. I've had
Korea here in the past, but the intonation sounded more Chinese.

1359CHINA CNR1
Mostly very faint, but played a piece of distinctive music at 1454
which I was easily able to // on 1593.

1404unIDMostly just a strong carrier, but faint audio with man
 talking at 1451 peak.

1557unIDEasy listening vocal by a woman at 1437. Pretty
certain it was Taiwan, but too much 1560 splatter to definitely
say so.

1566KOREA, SHLAZ
Fair signal, with Chinese talk by a man and woman with musical
background at 1430. Also a quite noticable second carrier
about 35 Hz high.

1575THAILANDVOA
First reached audio at 1432. Got up to fair signal with man
and woman in SE Asian language, but never as strong as 1566 and
1593.

1584unID
Like 1404, mostly just a strong carrier, but very faint traces
of audio at peaks at 1435 and again at 1451. Only one carrier
here today, and that one on frequency.

1593CHINA CNR1
First noted at 1436 with bits and piece of man and woman in
Chinese through the splatter from Seattle on 1590. Getting
through the splatter pretty well by 1445, and brushing it aside
by 1452.

Had audio on 1422 as well, but it was a spur from a US station.
Notable carriers on 1044,1116,1206 (one on freq and one about 30 Hz
low), 1269, 1287, 1323, 1377, 1386, 1494

[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on Dec 4

2015-12-04 Thread Bruce Portzer

My TP DX was amazingly similar to Gary's today.

I had a brief opening at about 1545 UT, highlighted by fair audio on
1575 and marginal audio on 1566.

There were also carriers on 1557, 1593, and 1602, with no sign of any
TPs below 1550.

[IRCA] TP 4 Dec Victoria version

2015-12-04 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Just about to send this when I read Nigel's loggings. Talk about
another planet, hi.

Basically things died after about 1400UT here. I had some
recordings from earlier, and indeed there were some old standby
stations, a couple at reasonable level.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

1566 HLAZ 3 and 1 pips at 1000UT, then man in Korean, peaking at
1001UT. This wasn't too bad at 1158UT either, but within a couple
of hours of sunrise, forget it. Take it where you find it.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB quiet music //747 at 1159UT, pips on the hour, then peaking
1200UT with man and women talking excitedly in Japanese, then some English

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

747 JOIB man in Japanese 1158UT, leading up to pips on the
hour. Also, theme music for Chinese lessons at 1359UT was pretty
much the last gasp of this morning's DX.

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

891 woman talking, Japanese inflection? 1335UT
1053 Korean jammer 1355UT
1575really reaching here, man talking deep in the murk 1553UT,
the sole excuse for sunrise DX

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

738 828 972

best wishes,

Nick
