[IRCA] TP 2 Mar Victoria version

2016-03-02 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Actually quite a thunderous morning, but not at sunrise, rather a bit
earlier. Maximum signals here in the 1330-1430UT time frame, and I'm
sure I missed plenty just by not listening live.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

567 JOIK man in Japanese //594 1354UT
594 JOAK man in Japanese, 1342UT
612 4QR man in DU English being interviewed about stock market
1258UT; just before hour "6-12, ABC Brisbane", no pips, fanfare and news.

747 JOIB Chinese lessons 1346UT
774 JOUB English lessons 1301UT, man underneath seemed to be same
programming as 612, but offset in time

828 JOBB English lessons, 1416UT
972 HLCA man in Korean 1438UT, but at this strength 1336 and 1355UT,
plus others I'm sure.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

738 Tahiti woman in French 1201UT
1053 Korean jammer 1359UT
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1445UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

558 HLQH female vocal music //603 which was also at this level for a
change; otherwise 603 was quite weak considering carrier strength
639 CNR1 man in Chinese, pips at 1400UT, Beijing time check (might
have heard faint pips also on 756; things were hopping)

855 CNR2? woman in Chinese 1414UT, no hope of parallel on MW.
891 JOHK musical interlude //594 1417UT, other stations there also.
702 2BL pop vocal //774 and 612

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

603 woman talking 1419UT sounding Chinese; Korea was weaker and //558
621 hum, man talking 1359UT, nothing identifiable on hour; N. Korea?
702 NHK2 man talking //774 1304UT
792 4RN traces of ABC fanfare 1200UT
864 man talking frantically 1347UT, maybe Japanese?
918 Chinese pips 1400,slow fanfare, man talking
945 CNR1? man talking 1337UT; sounded Chinese and definitely not //NHK1
981 CNR1 woman talking, then CNR1 news sounder 1403; weaker 639 was //
1422 man and woman muttering slowly 1445UT, didn't sound like
usual commercial Japanese brightness
1593 CNR1 man talking 1442UT //639 which was barely there by now.

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

675 936 963 1044 1134 1143 1206 1242 1323

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 2 March 2016

2016-03-02 Thread Nigel Pimblett

Plenty of action this morning:

558 unID
Traces of man talking at 1402

567 JAPAN JOIK
Man speaking in Japanese at 1343, //594

594 JAPAN JOAK
Good signal at 1342 with man in Japanese.

693 JAPAN JOAB
The most potent signal of the morning, already good at 1341
tune in with language lesson.

747JAPANJOIB
Also good at 1341 with language lesson.

774JAPANJOUB
Fair-good with language lesson, //693, 747.

828JAPANJOBB
Fair at 1343. //693 etc.

873 JAPAN JOGB
Poor with talk at 1355, but definitely // 693 etc.

972KOREA, SHLCA
Mostly poor-fair, but spiked to good at 1347 with man in Korean.

1188unID
A minute or so of drum music at 1342.

1377unID
Traces of music at 1345, but faded quickly thereafter.

1566KOREA, S. HLAZ
Nothing special today, fair with Christian music at 1347.

1575THAILANDVOA
Woman in Asian language at 1348. Poor-fair

Lots of carriers this morning, with 558, 702, 891, and 945 worthy of
note. In general the lower end of the band was better.

Didn't have time to report yesterday, but it was similar, though signals
weren't quite as good Low end favoured with Japan on 594 doing very well.

2016-03-02 Thread Bruce Portzer
It was another relatively productive morning today with lots of carriers
up and down the dial. The high band signals seemed to peak at about
1435, the low banders about a half hour earlier.

GOOD - most of it would be understandable by a native speaker
774JOUB, English lesson about a train station 1407
972HLCA, Korean talk 1440 as strong as 970
1422JORF 1539 Japanese male talk, as strong as the 1420 domestics

FAIR - a native speaker would have recognized words and phrases
981CNR1, Chinese talk //1593 cutting through the CKNW squawks 1435
1557Pop'ish songs 1436, stronger than 1566 at times, probably TAiwan
1566HLAZ, Chinese talk 1435
1593CNR1 Chinese talk //981 during pauses in KLFE audio 1438

POOR - recognizable program content, not understandable
675faint talk 1410
693 JOAB English lesson //774 1409
702English lesson //774 1408
747JOIB English lesson //774 1408
828JOBB, pips and start of the English lesson 1400
1332woman 1432, sounded Japanese
1404woman talking 1436, sounded Japanese
1494possibly a few notes of music 1539
1503bits of talk 1436
1575Asian talk weak 1431

[IRCA] Nice SSS cx to west yesterday.(Times CST)

2016-03-02 Thread Neil Kazaross
Early March can be great for sunset skip and yesterday didn't disappoint. I
hooked up somewhat prior to 7 pm targeting the far west and soon found that
I had no back null. Aha...this DKAZ had been hit by a deer again. I fixed
it up easily and made sure Rt was well connected and like magic, local WNTD
950 was gone, leaving me to listen to the Avs coverage from KRZN
backgrounded by cl mx from CFAM.

I tuned higher about 7:12 pm and there was KSL bothering my local WYLL
rather early and also its IBOC bothering adjacents. USB on 1150 took out
that IBOC and KSEN from MT was in well with oldies often atop WHBY.

Similar type stuff was noted across low and mid band, but nothing
noteworthy above KOFI 1180 noted.

I recorded much of the time til 8:16 (SS shift time for upper west coast is
8:15).

The following were also noted either from recordings or live listening. No
particular order. Nothing new yet found.

700 KXLX WA, 840 KMAX WA (best ever!) , 1100 KWWN NV (best ever), 1130 CKWX
BC early. 1040 CKST BC. Presumed unneeded 870 KSLQ NV and KORD WA. 830 KLAA
CA (gets out well via SSS).
1020 KCKN NM, 810 KSWV NM 1080 KSLL UT 1280 KZNS UT (50 kw days now so not
uncommon) and more. Also maybe some mx from needed 700 CJLI. Hopefully that
is more clear tonight.

I have much more recordings to listen too and maybe can dig out something
distant under regionals.

A fair amount of DXers are also ham operators, so I need something one of

Anyone happen to have an MFJ-969 tuner they don't need/want anymore they
can let go cheap? Privately email me, please.

The MFJ 969 goes down slightly into the broadcast band which is why I need

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-2

2016-03-02 Thread d1028gary
Very good Asian conditions prevailed during sunrise enhancement this morning,
with an awesome S9 signal from 972-HLCA around 1415 as the star attraction.
594-JOAK, 693-JOAB, 747-JOIB, 828-JOBB and 1566-HLAZ all managed good signals
from 1400-1440, while the KBS2 parallels on 558 and 603 reached fair levels in
