2016-04-06 Thread Robert Ross
Hi Guys:

Here is my Report for Stations heard the last week. Things seem to be slowing
down as the AM BCB Season winds down. Also I haven't had much time to review
Recordings to see what I may have received….

It will soon be time to switch over to FM DXing once the Tropo and E-Skip moves
in!!

[IRCA] TP 6 Apr Victoria version

2016-04-06 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Another pretty reasonable morning for early April, with likely
several stations unlogged around the pre-sunrise peak at about
1315UT; things were moving pretty quickly just then

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK man and woman in Japanese 1310UT
774 JOUB 1249UT with English lessons
828 JOBB 1307UT, sounded like Korean lessons? //774
1566 HLAZ man in Japanese 1331UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

558 tHLQH soft vocal music 1315UT, but very little on 603
567 JOIK man in Japanese //594 1312UT
972 HLCA man in Korean 1314UT
1053 Korean jammer 1309UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

693 JOAB flute music //774 with CBU well nulled 1330UT
747 JOIK KK lessons? //828 1304UT
891 JOHK man and woman in Japanese //594 1311UT
954 JOKR woman in Japanese 1317UT
1575 VoA likely with man in SE ASian language 1322UT, better on north Flag

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

531 JOQK man in Japanese //594 1313UT
738 pop music 1250UT
945 man talking, maybe Chinese inflection ? 1311UT, definitely not //594
963 woman talking 1318UT, but didn't seem parallel with either the
sketchy 1323 or the thundering 594
981 man talking, Chinese inflection 1319UT, couldn't get this and 945
at the same time

1017 CRI??? woman talking, maybe Korean 1314UT, no SW // available
1089 JOHB man talking 1316UT, weak, but //774
1116 man talking, DU English inflection, followed by piano music 1331UT
1206 man and woman talking 1302UT, but woman had more of a Chinese
sound to her voice

1503 JOUK woman in Japaneses //594 1326UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

603 702 1044 1107 1134 1143 1179 1242 1269 1314 1323 1593

[IRCA] March 2016 Michigan BCB logs

2016-04-06 Thread Tim Tromp
Stuff heard from West Michigan during March, 2016. All new logs, except
1548 4QD. Antenna used is noted in the log. All dates and times UTC. TAs:
1431 Radio Sawa, Djibouti - 3/5/2016 0049-0053 UTC - Decent carrier noted
several times here in past nights finally culminating with some audio on
March 5th. Occasional strong peaks bursting into pop music lasting for
several minutes. Parallel to a remote Perseus SDR located in the
Mediterranean region that had a strong copy on Radio Sawa which provided a
nice real-time comparison. 7,481 miles from my North D-KAZ antenna.
(TROMP-MI) DUs: 1548.01 4QD Emerald, QLD, Australia - 3/24/2016 1134 UTC -
Carrier peaking to legible audio by1134 UTC with aussie accented talk
during long signal peaks but clobbered by heavy slop from 1540. Best on
North D-KAZ antenna, just like last year in March at this time when 4QD was
received surprisingly clear. 9,081 miles. (TROMP-MI) Domestics: 810 WCTA
Alamo, TN. - 3/5/2016 0159 UTC - Poor copy under WSYW with legal ID at TOH,
heard on southwest BOGs. (TROMP-MI) 1230 WMLR Hohenwald, TN. - 3/7/2016
0158 UTC - With oldies and TOH legal ID under local WTKG during au cx on
South D-KAZ. (TROMP-MI) 1230 KGHS International Falls, MN. - 3/27/2016
UTC - OM call letter ID given along with mention of International Falls
(MN), poor but distinguishable after a few playbacks of the recording,
North D-KAZ. (TROMP-MI) 1240 WJON St. Cloud, MN. - 3/26/2016 1159 UTC - OM
legal call letter ID and into several mentions of St. Cloud and soon buried
again, on North D-KAZ. (TROMP-MI) 1270 WWWI Baxter, MN. - 3/6/2016 UTC
- With TOH ID: "This is NBC Red Zone Sports Radio, on WWWI, AM 12-70,

Morning and then call letter ID, on North D-KAZ. (TROMP-MI) 1350 WCMP Pine
City, MN. - 3/6/2016 UTC - 60 Hz buzz noted for a few seconds at TOH
and then under modulated legal ID, difficult to understand and then into
standards with better modulation, on North D-KAZ. (TROMP-MI) 1360 KKBJ
Bemidji, MN. - 3/26/2016 1156 UTC - With local Bemidji (MN) ads and local

Re: [IRCA] Colorado TPs, Sort Of

2016-04-06 Thread d1028gary
Hello Craig,

Thanks very much for your TP-DX report from Colorado this morning, and
congratulations on your inland reception of 774-JOUB,

<<<   Kudos to Gary DeBock also. I really enjoy reading about the evolution of
FSL equipped PL380s and the subsequent performance results!   >>>

Thank you for your generous comment about the FSL equipped PL-380's, Craig. If
any radio can possibly make us feel like excited teenagers again, this has got
to be the model :-)

73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA)

Greetings,

From 1316 through 1332, JOUB 774 brief periods of audio for a few minutes at a
time, with what seemed like an English lesson; in and out, sometimes with
barely discernable audio, however it was fair on peaks. Best audio at 1316.

Carriers were detected on 594, 693, 747, 972 and 1566.

The few minutes of audio from JOUB was encouraging. I have been working on
improving my antenna situation when I have not been dealing with health issues.
It can be a bit noisy around my new in town location. I am looking forward to
my ALA 1530LN which is on order. QRM improvement will be most welcome.
Hopefully I can null out the IBOC hash from some of the locals as well with the
Wellbrook loop. I will also be deploying an Elad FDM-S2 soon. That should be
fun.

Kudos to Gary DeBock also. I really enjoy reading about the evolution of FSL
equipped PL380s and the subsequent performance results!

Best of DX to all.

2016-04-06 Thread d1028gary
<<<  I was surprised to hear the ROK jamming station on 1053.  Has anyone ever

Here was the 1053-Jammer's signal in Puyallup this morning (one of its better
jam sessions all spring):
https://app.box.com/s/pm82kt8hmymzxs587e3krbly5szm3z1t

The usual TP co-channel with the Jammer here on the west coast is 1053-JOAR in
Nagoya. I have heard Korean programming on the frequency (presumably from NK),
but only once, and that was about 4 years ago during peak conditions. Chinese
on the frequency is also fairly common, as heard mixing with the Jammer during
this MP3 made at Cape Perpetua two years ago
https://app.box.com/s/nvld5g2vhup50hdau3u01wfl0qycdono

One of my Facebook friends (Chris Kadlec) currently lives near Seoul, S. Korea,
and he reports that almost all of the major NK broadcasters are jammed there.
It's unknown why the 1053-Jammer is so much more powerful than the others,
especially with much more powerful NK transmitters on frequencies like 657,
702, 819 etc.

Re: [IRCA] Oklahoma TP DX 4/6/16

2016-04-06 Thread d1028gary
Thanks for your TP-DX report from Oklahoma, Richard (and you are doing great
for this time of year, especially so far inland).

The morning TP-DXing session here in Puyallup was better than my April 4th
session in Grayland. There were very strong signals from the Japanese big guns
and 972-HLCA, plus quite a few other TP's with weaker signals from other areas.

Indicative of TP DX for this time of year there is little to report for this
morning, only a couple of signals were observed here on the Skywave and 8-inch
FSL.

1153  JOUB 774 with barely audible talk fading out at 1156.
1205  ROK Jammer with barely audible to poor signal (LSR @ 1208).

Re: [IRCA] Coastal Master Logs (was: Re: 1152 at 15:00 this morning)

2016-04-06 Thread Russ Edmunds
There are the composite NRC IDXD listings which are downloadable from the
e-DXN site. These are complete insofar as loggings have been reported to
IDXD, but they do not include DXpeditions. There have also been many
reports from individual other DXpeditions published, many of which are
probably still available to be combined.

In addition, I have compiled a composite listing of all stations, MW/LW,
Foreign/Domestic including NDB's heard at all of the LBI Dxpeditions from
2001 forward to date, which I would be willing to share if someone wishes
to embark on such a project for the East Coast. Since it is set up in an
Access database, I can easily spin out a customized version covering only
Foreign MW & LW.

Yes, a coastal report would be nice. I've collected all the logs from Gary,
Bill W and myself with the intent of adding a sheet to the Grayland Master Log
and making it into a NW Coastal Log. When will it happen? Not real soon, as I
haven't even gotten around to listening to most of my DX from 2015, including 3
Rockworks trips plus a Grayland trip.

DXers out west have the PAL and aforementioned Grayland master list but East
Coast DXers have even less, at least in terms of some kind of unified reference.

Bruce Conti has a useful reference of his loggings at:
http://www.bamlog.com/2010decadebook.htm

He also has a DXpeditions section at:
http://www.bamlog.com/#Section5

There was a master log attempt for Newfoundland DXpeditions (Excel sheet by
Jean Burnell) but I don't think that it is either (a) available on a website
all can access, or (b) up to date, given that those DXpeditions are subject to
the same delayed logging problems of the SDR age that apply out west.

Allen Willie in NL has several useful lists that can eventually be located by
Googling.

European Medium Wave guide is still available ( http://www.emwg.info/ ) but
there is nothing similar thoroughly covering Latin America / Caribbean stations.

Big problem is that, even though there may be a lot out there on the web and on
paper, it's in about a dozen different places and, seeing how many stations in
Europe have gone dark, often more of historical rather than
currently-actionable value.
