You didn't give the day of the week which makes it easier to see who has what.

828: check http://www.abc.net.au/gippsland/programs/?day=Sunday snd then select
each day of the week to see what they have.

Ditto for 702: http://www.abc.net.au/sydney/programs/?ref=nav

Best guess: you were hearing "Evenings" which is different on thetwo.

[IRCA] TP 11 Oct Victoria version

2016-10-11 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
As Colin noted, sort of like yesterdayinteresting and annoying
morning. Annoying because of the large numbers of strong carriers
with "man mumbling" or the equivalent; erratic of course, and some
DUs breaking through as well. The big guns did seem stronger except
for 594 and 828 which were generally fairly nondescript.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

747 JOIB Chinese lesson 1339UT
774 JOUB English lessons 1416UT, but man in DU English under this, 3LO //612.
972 HLCA man in Korean 1407UT
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese then choral music 1428UT, then woman talking
as it faded. Sounds a bit more "martial" than the Japanese program
which got to this level a few times earlier today. Up to 5dB
stronger on the north Flag compared with the west..

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

954 JOLK man in Japanese 1418UT //1287; this doesn't seem to be All
Night Nippon, wonder what it is?

963 CRI woman in Russian 1415UT //1323 at 1426UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

576 2RN likely woman talking, DU English 1349UT
702 NHK2 Chinese lessons 1339UT
1287 JOHR man in Japanese, woman on phone 1431UT, //954 earlier

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

567 JOIK woman talking then music //594 1421UT
702 2BL man talking 1424UT //612 which was barely audible
711 man talking 1332UT, too much splatter. Also noted at 1407UT
981 man talking, Chinese inflection 1418UT, no possible parallels
1116 man talking DU English inflection1340UT
1242 pop music 1424UT, woman talking didn't really sound commercial
Japanese, quite sober and measured

1323 CRI woman talking 1426UT //963 which was weaker yet at this time.
1386 NHK2 woman talking //747 1320UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter) lots of near audio here

603 621 639 756 819 855 864 873 909 918 936 945 1035 1098 1143

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 11 October 2016

2016-10-11 Thread Nigel Pimblett
I have no idea what would have caused the Asians to disappear again
this morning, but they did so (with the exception of a feeble HLAZ),
leaving the DU stations to provide any audio today. Lots of other DU
carriers, but they would have needed more than a couple of db to be of
real interest. Mostly a low band morning, with things sounding pretty
dreary above 1000 khz.

Re: [IRCA] Arizona TP's for 10-11-16

2016-10-11 Thread Bill Block
Neil, my other antennas are a KAZ 20x80 feet, a flag 15x24 feet, a "U" at 20X40
feet and several long wires. All work good but the Wellbrook has a very low
noise level and in the first day it was the best. On the Wellbrook I hear
KTBA-760 at noon with a fair signal but it is not heard on the other antennas.
In part the Wellbrook is in the center of my yard (1/4 acre) so it is in a very
low noise area. I checked my yard with my Sony7600GR and found the best area
with very low noise.

[IRCA] 11 October 2016 West Coast TP warmed leftovers.

2016-10-11 Thread R. Colin Newell
Today felt like yesterday - after a bout of nightmares and turkey induced
somnolence.

So: Cut and paste yesterday and add a couple of DB of signal and you have
my logbook.

Listened from 1333-1355U. . All low to mid band with some impressive mid
band peaks and virtually no upper-band.

531 JAPAN,JOQG, Morioka, NHK1 assuming the weak chatter around 1333

594 JAPAN, JOAK Tokyo, NHK1 in at good levels at 1335 - 567 also with
passable NHK programming

603 REP KOREA, Seoul, HLSA (t) with poppy music - 1335

666 JAPAN, JOBK, Osaka, NHK1 1336 pr. with talk -

693 JAPAN, JOAB, Tokyo, NHK2 1336 Fair with language lessons.

702 JAPAN NHK2 Various - 1337 - fair to poor with JJ talk

774 JAPAN, JOUB Akita, NHK2 1338 - Gd. levels - one of the best of the
morning with lessons - 747 Khz NHK also in quite good.

828 JAPAN, JOBB, Osaka, NHK2 1340 - Gd levels

There were good carriers and mumbles on 837, 846, 855, 864, 873, 882 and
particularly 891 which had JOHK Miyagi on top of the heap. 1341 UTC

972 REP KOREA, Dangjin, HLCA 1345 Best signal of the morning with easy
going Korean talk by YL -

1053 REP Korea - occasional appearance of the JAM show but pretty darn poor
relative to days passed.

1566 REP OF KOREA, HLAZ, Jeju, 1347U - poor with Korean talk by YL.

So far this "season" we have had one truly delightful mornings, 6
interesting mornings and the rest - kind of like this: "Meh" mornings.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-11

2016-10-11 Thread d1028gary
Asian conditions improved somewhat over yesterday with overall results very
similar to what Dennis reported (with a few different second-tier TP's). A
fairly good sunrise enhancement boosted up the wacky 657-Pyongyang to potent
levels after 1400, complete with female vocal music that didn't sound bad at
all.

At my 1255 start time the N.K. Jammer had a slight edge over 1566-HLAZ, while
the rest of the Japanese and Korean big guns were fairly subdued. Asian
propagation took a while to really kick in, but by 1345 the Japanese on 594,
693 and 747 sounded energetic, along with 972-HLCA. The second tier Asians on
603 (HLSA), 657, 738 (BEL2), 1017, 1035 and 1044 all got somewhat of a sunrise
enhancement boost around 1400, but with the exception of 657-Pyongyang they
quickly fizzled out after managing a few fair-level peaks. 972-HLCA hit a brief
S9 level around the 1400 TOH, while Pyongyang BS went on a potent run starting
around 1405, hitting very good peaks playing female vocal music that seemed to
get stronger with increasing daylight. Apparently the wacky martial music and
angry shouting had been shelved for a short time, with the strong-level music
actually sounding rather pleasant. 657-Pyongyang stuck around until around 1415
here, bailing along with the NHK big guns and 972-HLCA a
 s propagation collapsed.

657 Pyongyang B.S. Pyongyang, N. Korea Very good level female vocal music at
1412; sounds like some type of Korean love song (maybe dedicated to Kim Jong
Un?) https://app.box.com/s/sh7k70rgv1alnasp8ip46wuuz2hxh3vh

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] KOJM 610 MT into IL this morning (CDT)

2016-10-11 Thread Mark Connelly via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---

610 here recently has been, more or less in order of dominance:
WIOD-FL
Rebelde Cuba
R. Carinosa, Colombia
WTEL-PA
WGIR-NH

Not much chance for MT through that 'scrum'.

730 is a solid wall of CKAC / Progreso de Cuba / Melodia de Colombia.
Sometimes WLTQ-SC.

1130 WBBR often the strongest night skip signal. Brazil, Venezuela, KWKH way
way under. Vancouver won't have much of a chance against all that.

Regarding TP/DU, I have checked several recent captures made at 1000 and 1100
UTC (sunrise is about 1050 UTC these days). So far, ZILCH! The best
candidates would be on the lower latitude routes avoiding the auroral oval.

738 is pretty well trashed by CFZM / R. Angulo 740 slop. 1017 has IBOC from
WBZ. 1098 gets hammered by WTAM on any antenna that has any western pick-up.
But 702 Aussie might be playable since 700 (WLW + Colombia) is non-huge.

On the higher latitude stations, Japan 747 is likely the best candidate since
750 (Venezuela, Cuba, WSB, CBGY) is not a big-signal channel at least after
1000 UTC. But nothing noted there so far. 774 takes a beating from 770 (WABC
mostly, Cuba + Colombia secondarily). 972 is next to pest 970 WZAN (and
secondarily WNYM) but might squeak by. 1566 takes a serious hammering from
1560 WFME and 1570 CJLV / WMVX.

In the '90s I got the Korean jammer on 1053 at nearby Harwich, MA (despite NY
on 1050). Elsewhere around New England, Chris Black and Bruce Conti have
received some of the other TP's and DU's.

PEI and Newfoundland DXpeditions have done quite a bit better.

Right now I have to do some antenna repairs after the 50+ mph winds we got over
the weekend.

KOJM made it under KCSP pest this morning! I noted rock mx at 0657 and then
some talk and an ID and then wx into ABC news. By 0700 which is about my LSR
time KCSP had faded and KOJM was almost alone.

Also new this morning was CHMJ 730 with Vancouver traffic and nice AM 730 All
Traffic All the Time slogans. This again about 0700 and in a mix. This wasn't
strong and clear as CKWX 1130 was at times.

On the TP/DU front I did have some island mx from V7AB 1098 at about 1058 UT.
No Aussies were audible although I had plenty of carriers. Aussie cx were
better 10 days or so ago.

Re: [IRCA] KOJM 610 MT into IL this morning (CDT)

2016-10-11 Thread Neil Kazaross
Thx guys, all 1 kW stations over 1800 km away will be happily accepted here
especially when they don't have a favorable DA to me. This reception really
highlights the usefulness of the Perseus to me.

Noting that CHMJ 730 was in (new for me after 100's of tries) and CBU 690
was in (rare) I paid special attention to 610 my recording looking for CKNL
(gets into central MN) thru KCSP which was fading. Sure enough I found
significant QRM to KCSP near TOH (1200 UTC). Cold temps in F and snow/rain
line ment. Calls sd/lk KLKN. Hmm...I play it back over and over switch
sidebands, adjust bandpass filters etc. OK it sd/lk it could be KOJM and no
where else fits that wx rpt but I want to hear it more clearly.

OK I think, lets go back to the beginning of the recordings (1157) and try
something differeny. AM synch mode seems to be helping to pull KOJM audio
thru KCSP. Rock, mx end, KOJM call heard, MT ment and bit of local nx can
be copied. Wx and calls at 1200 are more clearly KOJM.

Normally I don't find AM Synch mode to help domestic DX much, but it is a
big help for splits like my recent DU's as long as they are 2 kHz or more
away from the domestic channel.

[IRCA] Arizona TP's for 10-11-16

2016-10-11 Thread Bill Block

I now have a new antenna up and it is a Wellbrook ALA 1530LNP and it is working
very good.  It looks like the Wellbrook will be my number #1 antenna as it
works better than any other antenna!  When I hear very weak audio on the
Wellbrook the other antenna will only get a weak carrier.  Listened from
1250-1335 UT and heard carriers on 558, 567 594, 657, 666, 693, 747, 774, 828,
864, 873, 891, 972, 1566 and 1575.

747  JOIB  hrd at 1323 UT with talk.
774  JOUB hrd at 1308 UT with talk fair signal.
828  JOBB hrd at 1306 UT with talk.
972  HLCA hrd at 1324 UT with talk and good signal.

2016-10-11 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Poor conditions today though a few heard right after sunrise. 774 Japan
and 1566 HLAZ the main ones, both at good levels briefly. All Asian.
Lots of hets over whole band (except expanded band) but most weak, and
heavier domestic splatter today.
