[IRCA] Oklahoma TP DX 10/27/16

2016-10-27 Thread Richard N Allen
Conditions seems slightly better this morning.
613 4QR? weak het in KCSP-610 QRM at 1214.
702 2BL? weak het in WLW & XEGD-700 QRM at 1216.
828 unID het from DU at 1220 in WCCO-830 QRM.
1098 V7AB? het in WTAM & XEFV-1100 QRM at 0800-0908. First time I've heard
XEFV.
1116 4BC faint traces of audio fading in & out at 1234-1254 (LSR 1248). It
hard to believe 4BC operates with 6.3 kW at night. The distance is 13421 km or
8339 miles.

I was up at 1300 UTC which looked favourable and as described but I had
a United Way (Social Service agency) leaders breakfast at 1400 UTC -
and listened to come of the hets from the car radio.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-27

2016-10-27 Thread d1028gary
Clunker conditions prevailed for the third day in a row here with a weak
carrier on 1566 kHz (around 1330) being the only sign of Asian life. Unlike
Walt I had no DU's show up with dawn enhancement (as if that would surprise
anybody), but I did have some fun reviewing Rockwork 4 ocean cliff DXpedition
files for July 9th, and making up this MP3 of 738-Tahiti threatening to melt
down my Ultralight radio at 1247 (sure wish I knew what the French YL was
saying) https://app.box.com/s/cud7cwbklflc5yw5m65wedksccpgk1ut

[IRCA] Mostly Mexican MW DX to Enid OK, October 21-27, 2016

2016-10-27 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without
much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open
access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page52

All times and dates strictly UT. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only
or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan
stock caradio as specified; ICR-75  E-W longwire

** MEXICO. 800, Oct 24 at 0605 after multi-verse XE NA, barely hear a ``Cañón``
ID, so XEROK, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua is still here, but much QRP vs KQCV OK
nulled as much as possible; also a ``punto siete`` reference to FM //? But none
is listed for XEROK (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1521 kHz, Oct 25 at 0126 UT, in a TA JBA MW carrier bandscan I do
detect one here, very weak against KOLM & KOKC 1520. By 0130 with extremely
narrow bandwidth on the NRD-545, I think I am squeezing some audio thru,
possibly Qur`an? So is the Saudi 2-megawatter at Duba back in business; or
could it be CRI Urumqi, EAST TURKISTAN, reported testing last week after an
absence, scheduled 00-02 in Russian? Aoki says 100 kW, WRTH says 500 kW, but
it`s big in Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re my 1521 kHz, Noel Green, NW England replies: ``Glenn, I've
been trying 1521 in our late afternoon / early evening but not heard either of
these stations. Maybe due to propagation, but I don't think so as Saudi's 1600
kW station on 1440 is often heard well. 73 from Noel``.

The same evening but no time specified, Bill Whitacre says about Sa`udi, ``BTW,
1521 is no longer the 'monster' it has been in seasons past. In fact, it's not
in here at all! Must be having tx problems. Bill Whitacre, Alexandria, VA``
(Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Well, besides CRI Urumqi, hardly any other
1521 options from AfroEurAsia (gh, DXLD)

** MEXICO. 1560, UT Mon Oct 24 at 0319 UT, `La Hora Nacional`. topic cultural
events in Guanajuato, which I had heard publicized last week in a promo on some
other XE. Not // much stronger 1570 XERF. Loops SW, whence the only possibility
is XEJPV, Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, more like WSW.

At 0331, 1560 has moved on to something else, while XERF is just wrapping up
LHN from/about Guanajuato, so playout must have started at least a minute late
there (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, Oct 21, UT:
at 1216, 774-NW, 693-NW
at 1221, 828-NW, 1098-W
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search October 23, from 1227 to 1232
UT: mostly NW from Japan/FE at first, then some WSW, DU, all as usual on the
hand-held DX-398 with internal ferrite antenna only. The big guns from NHK,
774, 747 and 693 initially were strong enough for some audio, especially 774:

774-NW, 747-NW, 738-SW, 702-NW, 693-NW, 666-NW, 657-?, 612-WSW, 594-NW, 567-NW,
792-WSW, 828-WSW, 837-WSW.

At 1234, 1098-W.
Our sunrise at 1246 UT.
At 1250, 774-WSW, 702-WSW (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 24 at 0557-0601, all
roughly NE to ENE, u.o.s.: 773-E (Mauritania), 747, 738 [could also be opposite
TAHITI already], 603, 846, 882, 1044, 1098, 1368.

(No TP search circa sunrise Oct 24: much needed sleep catchup. Per Richard
Allen, didn`t miss much) (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, October 25 at 0119-0125,
looping roughly NE except 783-East as in Mauritania: 612, 774, 783, 837, 1017,
1053, 1152, 1215 --- and see separate 1521 entry. On the handheld DX-398, I
also have one on 1125, but suspiciously + and it vanishes when I turn off the
NRD-545 nearby. That also emits its own birdie carriers on a few other
frequencies; beware (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific pre-sunrise JBA MW carrier search October 25:
nothing lowband, only 1566 from the NW at 1227, presumably FEBC S Korea and/or
the N Korean jammer (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, Oct 27 UT:
576-NW at 1236
612-WSW at 1246
702-WSW, 2 carriers beating at 1237; also 1245, maybe one more from W?
774-WSW at 1238
828-WSW at 1240
936-WSW at 1241

USA, unidentified [if any], separated by === Within each, they are in
frequency order

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Oct 21 at 1236 UT, WKY OKC transmission has finally stopped
hiccuping, interrupting Spanish chat every 1.36 seconds (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 570, Oct 27 at 0518 UT, ``American Pie``, 0520 UT ``104.5 FM and AM
570, Las Cruces`` non-ID with no calls, right back to another classic rock
tune. Good signal mutually separable from KLIF. Hard to believe KWML Las Cruces
NM is on night power of 155 watts instead of day 5000 watts, both
non-direxional. 104.5 despite top billing is a mere translator, K283CG (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 650, Oct 25 at 1231 UT, Fox ``news``, into KGAB news center, i.e.
Cheyenne WY, dominating way above any XETNT, let alone WSM at this hour.
Obviously on 8.5 kW ND day pattern instead of 0.5 kW direxional night to the
NW; yet local official FCC sunrise for Oct is not until 1315 UT (November: 1345
UT). Not the first morning I have heard them lately. Community of License is
Orchard Valley, a south-side suburb; why? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1190-, Oct 27 at 0546 UT, unfamiliar rock music, ``You are listening
to Boulder and Denver`s premiere independent radio station, 98.9 and 1190 AM in
Boulder``, no calls, but per NRC AM Log 2016 it`s student-operated KVCU, with
an AOR/VAR format. 98.9 with top-billing is a mere translator, K255DA. Hard to
believe 1190 is 110 watts night power instead of 6800 day power, both
non-direxional. Is slightly off-frequency to low side; fades a bit vs some
Spanish CCI, more likely Mexican than United Statesian (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1380, Oct 24 at 0321 UT, sports talk in English about Cubs is
dominating and // echoing with 1020 KOKP Perry OK which is with Fox Sports
Radio; 1380 from NE/SW, instead of usual KRCM Spanish religion from SSE on day
power --- it may be there but very weak now. Altho KKRX 1380 Lawton OK has
flipped to sports, it`s south of here, and with CBS Sports Radio (but
exclusively??), and never heard at night. KHEY El Paso TX, 5000/500 U1, is Fox
Sports Radio, and indeed at 0332 UT I hear Fox SR mentioned, so very likely
this (and Juárez stations are in well). Only other could be KXFN St Louis,
silent since last December, had sports format, and would have to be on
reactivated 5 kW day pattern southwards (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1620, Oct 24 t 0315 UT, YL with weather for Pensacola, Milton, etc.,
in some detail, lows to be in mid-to-low 40s in the FL Panhandle; purple flags
on the beach warning of jellyfish. ``Look at satellite weather`` so maybe a TV
simulcast from a 10 pm CT newscast? So it`s WNRP, Gulf Breeze FL, 10/1 kW. This
one is amazingly rare here --- 1620 dominated by NE, TX, or from that direxion,
R. Rebelde, Cuba, usually without any sign of WNRP. Maybe they failed to
decimate their power tonight? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

=

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. 1180, Oct 27 at 1256 UT, open carrier/dead air making
SAH of 160/minute = 2 and 2/3 Hz with sports talk, but traffic report at 1259
UT, ID as ``1180 Zone 2 the Deuce``, i.e. KZOT Omaha NE. OC/DA loops SW/NE so I
think it`s KLPF Midland TX, which I recently confirmed had completed its
upgrade move from 1150, with Guadalupe Catholic network programming in English.
About to sign-on? No, still OC but fading at 1302 UT. Both these are 25 kW day
power, KLPF non-direxional, but KZOT is broadly direxional southwest, nothing
unusual here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

[IRCA] 1650 "SAC" Morse Code oddity?

2016-10-27 Thread Tim Tromp
0341 UTC and I'm hearing "SAC" repeated in morse code on 1650 kHz. The
code is weak and fades in and out but clearly visible on peaks on the
Perseus SDR's waterfall and offset by 400 hz on both sides of 1650.
Unlikely this is some kind of image on my end. I'm hearing this on my
South antenna while conditions are still heavily favoring the South.
Anyone else hearing "SAC" or know anything about it? Could it be related
to Southern Avionics Co. in Beaumont, TX.?

Unlikely this is some kind of image on my end. I'm hearing this on my
South antenna while conditions are still heavily favoring the South.
Anyone else hearing "SAC" or know anything about it? Could it be
related

to Southern Avionics Co. in Beaumont, TX.?

[IRCA] TP 27 Oct Victoria version

2016-10-27 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Recovery is occurringincluding one Asian, surprising as that may seem.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

recovery perhaps, but the DX is not leaping out of bed shouting at
the top of its lungs...

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

603 not sunrise enhancement, but assumed Waatea with man in island
sounding language 1130UT, and teletalk with island sound language,
both at this level. Not heard later

612 4QR ballad //702 at 1414UT
702 2BL ballad, then teletalk //612 at 1423UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

621 3RN // 576 2RN man talking, in parallel at 1351UT
747 JOIB pips 1400UT, then intro music for English lessons
774 3LO teletalk then Gene Pitney song 1424UT //702

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter) lots of near audio here

 531 567 594 675 738 756 765 828 909 1008 1098

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 27 October 2016

2016-10-27 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Certainly a lot more promising carriers today, but the audio was
pretty limited once again:

612	4QR	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	Seemed to get a bit of enhancement bringing
it up to a fair level with vocal by a woman at 1356.

1035	Newstalk ZB	Wellington, NEW ZEALAND Bits and pieces of talk by a
man at 1058.
