[IRCA] [NRC-AM] 1650 "SAC" Morse Code oddity

2016-10-29 Thread David Potter
1650 SAC beacon. Per tips on NRC/IRCA lists reporting this one, I
have it here (just W of Gainesville, FL) at 0150-0215+ UTC with CW.
Signal is fair to very good, equal to and at times over co-channel
stations, though with some fades. Nulls N of due W, so given Les
Rayburn's S-SE bearing from Montgomery, this would seem to indicate a
location in the northern Gulf.

broadcast stations being heard right now on 1650, as mentioned, it's still

"early" here but I'm hearing our mystery beacon again tonight.

Yes, I passed the SAC reception info on to ndblist yesterday. One guy in

additional info. It's a brand new signal at least for ndblist.

A fair number of DU carriers, and at least they didn't vanish early like

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 10-29 + Rockwork 4 Mystery

2016-10-29 Thread d1028gary
Asian propagation continues to be in a severe skid, but as Colin reported
738-Tahiti did manage some fair audio peaks from 0600-0900. The sunrise session
was another complete bust, as expected.

Clunker day DXpedition file review continues to uncover some surprises,
however, like this unknown rock station on 738 kHz mixing with an S9 Tahiti
around 1248 on July 9th at Rockwork 4. I guess I'll need to track down my
DXpedition partners Tom and Nick, who were both there that morning but never
reported anything like this (probably 738-Magic in Canterbury, NZ, since
Australia seemed to be shut out during the Kiwi-slanted propagation)

Re: [IRCA] 1650 Mystery Beacon "SAC"

2016-10-29 Thread Rick Dau
Les, I'm on the NDB listserver, as well. I saw your note that your had
contacted Southern Avionics, but that they had said that it was not they with
the mystery NDB on 1650. With Craig in Oviedo, Florida stating that he was
getting it strongest on a SW bearing from his QTH, I'm wondering if this is
emanating from some offshore drilling platform in the Gulf?

Same here. Just "Unfriend" the recent fake invitation from Bruce (which
I imprudently accepted). Actually I unfriended both "Bruce's" and sent a
new invitation to the correct one. Thanks for alerting.

Would someone who is a Facebook friend of Bruce, please inform him that
his FB account has been hacked? Someone, under his name and photo, is
sending out bogus chat messages. I had to Unfriend Bruce in order to stop
the messages which deal with the "CEO of Facebook helping disabled people
with cash." Definitely fraudulent. Also, major grammatical errors which I
would not expect from the real Bruce.

Thanks.

[IRCA] 738-Magic Tracked Down and ID'ed... 4 Months Later

2016-10-29 Thread d1028gary
Thanks very much to Rockwork 4 DXpedition partner Tom Rothlisberger for
checking his 738 kHz files for July 9th, and confirming that we both had
received 738-Magic (5 kW in Canterbury, New Zealand) without ever knowing it.

My reception was on a "backup" 15" FSL that was et up primarily to record a
huge signal from 738-Tahiti at the time. That 18-minute MP3 recording wasn't
even reviewed until this morning, when the mystery co-channel showed up
underneath Tahiti late in the recording. Tom reviewed his own files for the
time and not only found the mystery co-channel, but a "Magic" ID as well. So
primarily as a result of the clunker conditions this morning, we both have a
new (and pretty unusual) Kiwi station in our July DXpedition logs.

[IRCA] TP 29 Oct Victoria version

2016-10-29 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
DU again, and better than yesterday with a couple of little
surprises, plus one brief Asian.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

612 4QR waited until 1501UT to peak with ABC news; earlier reasonable
strength Saturday Night Country with no parallels presumably due to
DST offset to the south (though that isn't always observed with other
programs it seems)

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

828 3GI woman talking DU English, //774, then into country music

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

594 JOAK man in Japanese, woman agreeing 1450UT; by 1452UT, back to
the country (music)

621 3RN woman and man talking, briefly //576 at 1442UT
738 Tahiti assumed, pop music at various times 1345-1402UT, not //702
774 3LO Saturday Night Country //702 at 1422, 1431 and 1441UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

576 2RN man and woman in DU English 1440-2UT //621 at one point
585 7RN woman talking //576 (which was barely there) at 1413UT
603 rhythmic music 1415UT
702 2BL parallel with various at various times; ABC fanfare noted 1400UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter) lots of near audio here

855 891 909 1026

best wishes,

Nick
