[IRCA] Alberta TP for 3 November 2016

2016-11-03 Thread Nigel Pimblett
I'd agree with Colin that signals improved today. But, yesterday's
hole was so deep that it's a long way to crawl back to audio. Just one
signal made it that far today:

1116	4BC	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	First noted with ads at 1320, and noted off
and on until 1400. Never better than poor, but beggars can't be choosers!

Just out of curiosity I checked 1240 at 1400, but no sign of CFNI
at all today - it was back to the normal OR/WA jumble.

[IRCA] Mostly Mexican MW DX to Enid OK, October 28-November 3, 2016

2016-11-03 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without
much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open
access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page52

All times and dates strictly UT. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only
or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan
stock caradio as specified; ICR-75  E-W longwire

** MEXICO. 590, Nov 3 at 1159, tropical music from SSW thru hourtop; 1203
mentions ``informativo policíaco`` apparent program title about all the crime
down there, but plays more music. 1206 finally live announcer about Reynosa, 23
grados, presumably the expected high today; 1207 timecheck for 7:07 ``en la
ciudad de Reynosa`` where they have to stay on US DST for another week, unlike
deeper Mexico. So it`s XEFD, Tamaulipas, 5/0.5 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 610+, Nov 2 at 1231 UT, het upon KCSP 610, loops SW/NE; less than
1 kHz off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO [and non]. 650, Oct 28 at 1245, adstring in Spanish, finally 1247
Grupo Chávez plug, which means XETNT Los Mochis, Sinaloa, 6:47 timecheck [last
day of MDT for them], and then ``Altavoz Informa`` which is their morning news
block; vs. KGAB Cheyenne WY on day power, mutually nullable (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 650, Nov 2 at 1229, XETNT Los Mochis says ``Buenos Días, Yarderos``
and 1230 plays choral NA, odd time, but signals the re-start of their broadcast
day. 1231 rooster crows, YL says ``Amanecer Sinaloense``, then Sinaloa state
song, which names its major cities but also refers to neighboring states.
Dominant signal with no KGAB WY yet. 1235 jingles from Grupo Chávez, music, no
formal sign-on. 1237 starts `Buenos Días, Yarderos` show (Llarderos?); 1245 ads
for an óptica, a carnecería, and a centro cebollero (selling nothing but
onions?). 1250 KGAB starting to show weakly. 1252, timecheck from XETNT as 9
para las 6, confirming that Sinaloa is already back on MST = UT -7 instead of
MDT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 870, Nov 2 at 1239, no XETAR yet; still not at 1300, instead WWL
105.3 ID, but a SAH from something. 1308, now XETAR is in with usual
native-language openings, ``cuatro pueblos unidos en una sola voz``. So this
daytimer is on MST signing on a real hour later than before to keep it at 6 am
local, unfortunately losing an hour of sunrise skywave propagation, but we
still have another two months of latening sunrises, gaining half a sesquihour
by early January (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search October 28, UT:
702-WSW at 1233, two carriers beating
774-WSW at 1233
1098-W at 1238

576-, at 1235, 1241, somewhat NW but hard to peak, and it`s a bit off-frequency
to lo side, so suspect this is really something local. However, not hearing it
later during full daytime. (I am still hearing the 594+ spur of 1640-KZLS.)
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search starts a bit late today Oct
31 as I wake up just before local sunrise at 1254 UT:
702-WSW at 1251
612-WSW at 1252
657-WSW at 1253
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, Nov 2, UT:
At 1214, 702-WSW, 612-WSW, 738-SW
At 1227, 792-WSW, 882-WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, Nov 3, UT:
At 1219, 612-WSW
At 1221, 702-WSW, 738-SW, 756-WSW
At 1222, 792-WSW
At 1223, 828-WSW
At 1225, 774-WSW (which I couldn`t hear earlier, always sought first)
Sunrise here today 1257 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, October 28-November 3, 2016

2016-11-03 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA

All times and dates strictly UT [4 hours ahead of `ELT` during EDT; when
changing times one must also change the dates for events in the 00-04 UT period
to the previous date by ELT].

Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S
inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as specified; IC-R75

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of
USA, unidentified [if any], separated by === Within each, they are in
frequency order

** CANADA. 2598-USB, Oct 29 at 0054 UT, robot YL with weather in English, S6;
2749-USB, Oct 29 at 0055 UT, robot YL with weather in French, S5. Still in well
on MF despite depressed northerly MUF on HF.

Rich Ray`s compilation for the DXLD yg from Canadian Coast Guard shows these
are, with start times:
0040 UT 2749 VCO Sydney via Port Caledonia NS 46 11 14 -59 53 59
0048 UT 2598 VCP Placentia via St Lawrence NL 46 55 06 -55 22 45
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

=

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Oct 31 at 0305 UT, KZLS Enid-Hennessey-OKC with double
audio, an ad for something and an Ad Council PSA at equal levels. 0306 UT both
stop at same instant, for single audio on ``Free Talk Live, Hour 3``, host not
apologizing for the error (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

=

** U S A. 830, Nov 2 at 1306 UT, classic rock looping slightly clockwise from
E/W, ID for some FM station; 1310, sounds like ``Jeff FM``, album from 1986,
662-area code phone and mentioning Memphis. Wikipedia says, ``Area code 662 is
the telephone area code serving the northern half of Mississippi, including the
five counties that are part of the Memphis metro area``. So, of course, it`s
the station hijacked from Kennett MO, ex-KBOA which verified decades ago with a
playing card, and is now: WGUE Memphis, with FM 99.3 Guess FM, per NRC AM Log.
That`s really a 99-watt translator wagging this dog, W257CY per WTFDA Database.
What a strange name --- meaning you never know what they`ll play next? NRC AM
Log shows address in Southaven MS, yet 901-AC Tennessee phone number! This is
just past sunrise 1256 UT here, yet still getting DX from east rather than
west.

Likewise, on 840, instead of KXNT NV, or KTIC NE, at 1303 UT I`m getting ABC
news, and still Louisville KY, 9:03 timecheck from WHAS ID and local news
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 880, Nov 3 at 1213 UT, ``Star Spangled Banner`` sung in English, odd
time, not sign-on but starting the broadcast day, obviously from KHAC NM as
always permanently on 10 kW ND day power, since it`s the one also obviously
lacking LSB, just USB plus carrier and looping W/E. 1214 UT on to a country
hymn in English with steel guitar (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, Oct 28 at 1305 UT, KBXD Dallas with ad for that jeweler in
Frisco and something in another Metroplex suburb, IDs in passing as Radio
Salam, M&W hosts in Hinglish; 1307 UT traffic report of necessity mostly in
English; with usual slow SAH vs KQAM Wichita (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1580, Oct 31 at 0259 UT, ``God Save the Queen`` on organ, but
fade-down for KFCS ID as expected from Colorado Springs CO, the usual
dominatrix now, not unwilling to run 10 kW day power at night (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

=

UNIDENTIFIED. 610+, Nov 2 at 1231 UT, het upon KCSP 610, loops SW/NE; less than
1 kHz off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 870, Oct 30 at 2250 UT, country gospel music, ID as ``Top Ten
Radio`` (I think), with WWL nulled but losing out to it by 2252 UT. Prime
suspect looks like 25 kW KPRM Park Rapids, MN. Do they use such a slogan, or
program name? Or maybe KAAN in Bethany MO (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1590, Oct 29 at 0026 UT, I`m checking for the S Asian music John
Reed in Shawnee OK had reported to NRC DX News a couple weeks ago which he
concluded came from KLIV, way out in San José, California. Doubtful to me, so I
researched that and concluded it was most likely WCGO Evanston IL. Here`s his
report and what I wrote in reply:

``1590, KLIV, CA, San José – 10/14 2130 [EDT = 0130 UT Oct 15] – After
listening to this station occasionally over a span of several years, but
hearing no ID I finally IDed it. The broadcast is in Hindi language with a few
English

I'm curious as to what DXpeditions are on tap before winter sets in.

"Who's going where when?"

Of greatest interest to me are ones along the US and Canadian Atlantic

coastline such as:

PEI - I think Bruce Conti, Brent Taylor, and some others are signed up

for that

Newfoundland - ?
NJ coast (Long Beach Island?)

Of course, here in the east, results from those outings are augmented

well by near-DXpedition-grade home-based reporters such as Allen Willie in
NL, Michael Yule in NS, Brent Taylor in PEI, Sylvain Naud in QC, a few of
us in New England, and sporadic contributors from other coastal hotspots
such as the NC Outer Banks and south FL.

Still somewhat relevant to me would be news about DXpeditions in Europe,

Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

The West Coast guys must have some activities cooked up (such as

Rockworks, Grayland, and Haida Gwaii). Every so often trips to Hawaii are
mentioned. Japanese and Australian DXers are likely to be active sometime
too.

I'm thinking of doing at least one or two sessions from the car at beach

sites within an hour's drive time. Typically these would be around local
sunset at sites providing more consistent / strong TA and South American
signals than can normally be obtained at the house. Maybe I would try to
coordinate a mini-DXpedition night with others' activities in PEI or NL as
I've done in some previous years.

[IRCA] Victoria TP quick thoughts. was: Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-3

2016-11-03 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Yes, 738. Quite strong a number of times through the morning,
French talk, various sorts of music etc. up to and including sunrise,
though weaker then. 702 made a brief appearance with DU English
1421UT, presumed 2BL. 756 was also close to audio then.

Although there was no sign of sunrise activity from Asia, there were
actually some signals earlier. Around 1240UT, 747 was creeping
through with a man in recognizable Japanese, and // with a weaker 774
as well. 1053 was carrying on with its hugely popular programming,
though quite weak. None of these were heard for long.Oddly, the
only appearance of 612 was around this time also.

best wihes,

Nick

Between 1415 and 1445, there were (likely) audible signals on 702 and 738
and others - all looking DU - the latter (738)being quite good at times.

At 0530 UTC last night, Tahiti was arm chair at times on the Drake R8 and
good on the ELAD FM-SD2

Medium wave has been so ghastly that I am contemplating lowering my "Flags"
to half mast and putting up an 80-10 end fed dipole to blow
the dust off the Kenwood TS_480SAT and ICOM 703 transceivers.

And depending on who wins the election next week in the U.S.A., I may have
to move further into Canada. ;-)

Good luck neighbours!

It was yet another dreary day for Asian reception with only a couple of ghostly
carriers showing up on 594 and 738 around 1400 UTC, after which they fizzled
promptly. This solar shutdown has already continued for so long that an early
