[IRCA] TP 8 Dec Victoria version

2016-12-08 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
An odd morning, with sudden bursts of good strength Asians (big guns
only), and an Aussie or two.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

972 HLCA woman in Korean 1545-6UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

612 4QR man in DU English 1525UT
747 JOIB man in Japanese 1513UT
774 JOUB s/off music box 1541UT, ironically the best signal available
from this, though it had been noted at good strength around 1200UT as well

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above, passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

567 JOIK? man talking, Japanese inflection 1553UT, no 594 available.
702 2BL man and woman talking //612 1525UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter) lots of near audio here

the above passing through, and 1566

best wishes,

Nick

2016-12-08 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Cold enough for us, though ;-). Wind chill today made it very cold,
especially with me riding my bike to and from work. A comment on 1116.
In other seasons, 1116 was usually a very strong performer when DU
propagation allowed, often as strong as 612. This season, it's been a much
weaker contender. I wonder why, or is it just my imagination? 73, Walt

2016-12-08 Thread Nigel Pimblett
As others have observed, the Asian DX was frozen out today. One
lone DU was the extent of overseas audio this morning.

1116	4BC	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	Usual talk show host noted at 1406, and
hung around at a poor level (with the odd moment of fair) for the next
40 minutes.

Did catch a new one from Oregon though, KFJL on 1400. That leaves 8 to
go from Oregon.

Darn cold here too, with temperatures closer to Galena than Victoria.

[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, December 2-8, 2016

2016-12-08 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
All times and dates strictly UT [5 hours ahead of `ELT` during EST; when
changing times one must also change the dates for events in the 00-05 UT period
to the previous date by ELT].

Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S
inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as specified; IC-R75
with E-W longwire

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives
without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open
access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page53
[over 182,000 views as of Dec 8, 2016]

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of
USA, unidentified [if any], separated by === Within each, they are in
frequency order

** OKLAHOMA. 1210, Dec 8 at 0546 UT, KGYN Guymon with C&W tune, tear-in-beer,
NOT Xmasmx, despite appearing on a list of stations going all-Xmas, originating
in NRC DX News and quoted by Steve Whitt, UK in the MWCircle yg. Of course,
*some* Xmasmx could be playing but not all-out. And also KGYN is obviously
still violating its requirement to protect Philadelphia at night. Recheck at
1321 UT, ``Today`s Country 1210 KGYN`` ID, after 9-degree-F temp check
[official low was 2; now 20 in Enid] (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1530, Dec 3 at 1320 UT, KXTD with non-ID for ``Que Buena, 104.9 y
100.3`` but not 1530. 104.9 is the translator in Tulsa, while 100.3 is KCXR in
Taft OK (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

===

** U S A. 640, Dec 2 at 1337 UT, KWPN Moore OK sportstalk is absent, but I am
getting a good E/W signal with talk about a green spot in the Libyan desert,
turns out to be gospel huxter. Could it be KFI? Program sked at
http://kfiam640.iheart.com/onair/ shows `Coast to Coast AM` starting at 10 pm
PT [0600 UT] on Thursday, and nothing else until 6 am Friday [1400 UT]. More
like WCRV Collierville (Memphis) TN per REL format, 50 kW daypower starting at
1300 UT in Dec, (night power only 480 watts) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 690, Dec 2 at 1340 UT, KGGF Coffeyville KS in local news, YL mentions
``98.9 Double Q FM``. That would be sibling station KQQF, obviously a qutely
kindred call, but is it now duplicative? WTFDA FM Database does not show // 690
and names it ``Star 98.9`` with HOT AC format. And it`s the only FM station in
Coffeyville proper, not even a translator of KGGF or anything (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 750, Dec 2 at 1341 UT, Ukrainian talk from NE, 1342 UT sounds like an
ID, which would be WNDZ Portage IN (Chicago market and address), 15 kW
daytimer, direxional pattern tangent westward, plenty toward here. Ukrainian
really stix out on the domestic AM dial (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 780-CUSB, Dec 4 at 0143 UT, cowboy music obviously from KCEG, ``The
Ranch``, Fountain CO, NO signal on LSB, but on USB mixing with WBBM which is
DSB. So I can listen to WBBM QRM-free but not KCEG, even with WBBM nulled as
much as possible. 0150 UT, program is `Calling All Cowboys`.

Then ad for Royal Gorge Cabaret, Rosenkranz Mysteries, but AC 312 phone and
then mention Highland Park. Oops, this part is WBBM, not KCEG, for there is no
Royal Gorge Cabaret near Colorado Springs, but there is a Royal GEORGE Theatre
in Chicago --- with Rosenkranz!

0159 UT definitely back to KCEG for outro to `Calling All Cowboys`, which says
it originates with 88.9 KPOV, High Desert Community Radio in Bend OR, then ID
mentioning Colorado Springs. KCEG is 1900/720 watts U4 and not specified as USB
only in the NRC AM Log, an essential datum in my opinion, like it also is for
KHAC, 880-CUSB, AZ. CUSB meaning carrier plus USB; as far as I can tell it is
not reduced, as typically done on SW, WBCQ 9330. KCEG day pattern goes north,
smaller night pattern SSE, neither should be much good for here but it`s a
significant challenge to WBBM when KSPI is off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1160, Dec 8 at 1317 UT, KSL, SLC UT with ABC News headlines, ID,
traffic report. I always associated KSL with CBS, but CBS Radio (news) network
seems about to self-destruct. NRC AM Log shows nets as both CBS and ABC in that
order, plus others (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
