[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 17 December 2016

2016-12-17 Thread Nigel Pimblett

Not an overly inspiring morning, but at least it wasn't a shutout:

1548	4QD	Emerald, AUSTRALIA	Heard the ABC news fanfare at 1500, but
little more than that.

1566HLAZCheju, S.KOREA Nothing at all until faint traces of
man speaking heard at 1501.

1575 and 1593 were close to audio, as were the Japanese on 693, 747, and
774. If I'd had the inclination to go over the recording more closely
I might have found a few seconds of audio, but I wasn't so inspired.

[IRCA] TP 17 Dec Victoria version

2016-12-17 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Another day of the dead, with a slight revival after
1600UT (there was also a little evidence of regular big guns
delivering limited audio in the 1200-1320UT period: 594, 747 774 1566)

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

nope

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

nope

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above nopes passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

1503 man talking, might be Japanese 1605UT, no hope of any parallels
below 1500kHz.

1566 HLAZ likely with man mumbling 1603UT, possibly Korean, then a hymn.
1593 CNR1 piano music and man talking lined up with //6125 at 1607UT,
better on west Flag.

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

 594 1098 1287

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] Some TP Catches W/Audio From Alaska

2016-12-17 Thread Chris Kadlec
Paul, you were mistaken on 648 moving. 648 is still in Okinawa on the same
frequency. It was 1080 that moved to 1440 in Daegu in May to avoid the Seoul
signal and 1500kw Haeju. But you already know that your 648 was NHK-1 Toyama
playing the Utada song.

Your 837 is Niigata NHK-1. 1170 is indeed KBS Hanminjok 2R and 972 is KBS
Hanminjok 1R. 1287 is HBC Sapporo, 1566 obviously the Jeju Christmas carol
flamethrower. 567 is NHK 1 Sapporo and you already know that your 558 was
KBS 2R Happy FM Daegu.

Subject: [IRCA] Some TP Catches W/Audio From Alaska

I haven't posted any logs in the last few days, but I've been DX'ing. I
have a full time job that's often busier during high school basketball
season, so I can't keep up with posting logs and recordings all the time.

Galena, Alaska
Grundig Sattelit 750
225 foot long wire
DXEngineering HF PreAmp

Here's 567khz on December 15th at 8:51AM AKST/1751UTC with some good music
and a good signal. Audio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtBkh0OWcJg

On December 16, at 9:31AM AKST/1831UTC, I heard a 648khz I've never logged
before (Chris Kadlec tells me AFN The Surf moved off 648 awhile back, so
it's not hem.) Audio here: http://www.onairdj.com/648_12162016_931am.mp3

AFN 810 The Eagle, Tokyo was in on December 16 at 9:04AM AKST/1804UTC.
Reception was better then usual but not the best I've ever had them. But
like usual, they only stay good for a short period and disappear into the
mush for awhile becoming coming back up. audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtBkh0OWcJg

On December 14th at 9:53AM AKST/1853UTC, I had Eagle 810 and the signal
wasn't that great, but it hung around for over half an hour and was
somewhat listenable at times. Audio:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTSRqsOik14

On December 16th at 9:37AM AKST/1837UTC, I had an 837khz signal I don't
think I've heard before. Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQfIOmPjQxI

Here's a 972 (KBS?) with talk mainly by a man with a woman speaking
occasionally. The whine/het and talk in the background is from KFBX 970
Fairbanks, 10kw, 300 miles to my east. Audio here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJfFaszG9e8

1170khz, KBS Hamminjok Bangsong shows itself occasionally here and it did
so on December 16th at 9:40AM AKST/1846UTC. You hear a man talking then
some music begin to play. There's another man under him, That's Dr J
Vernon
McGee on semi local 50KW KJNP 1170, 300 miles to my east. 30 minutes
later,

KBS 1170 was gone and KJNP was in the clear. Here's audio of KBS 1170:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH9II8N3AM4

I thought I had "All Night Nippon" on 1287khz on December 15th at 8:$1AM
AKST/1741 UTC, but the PAL guide doesn't list a station or relay on 1287.
Signal was good. Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IogVQdYJ4A0

I regularly hear All Night Nippon on JOLF1242 with a nearly local like
signal just about daily. I hear All Night Nippon on JOWF 1440 and JOER
1350

most days, but not always very well.

I had the best signal to date from 4QD 1548, Emerald Queensland, Australia
with their overnight networked talk programming. December 16th at 8:40AM
AKST/1740UTC. Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEbNIg5uqw4

1566 HLAZ was its usual strong self on December 16th at 8:44AM
AKST/1744UTC. Audio here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR0d65YSPNg

AFN 1575 The Eagle, Misawa Japan showed itself on December 16th at 8:45AM
AKST/1745UTC for about 30 seconds and then was gone. This is the best I've
heard them in about a month, but not the best signal I've had from them.

As a former country radio personality, it didn't quite sound too country to
me... But I'm not a musical genius.

648 is usually killed by splatter from 650 KENI with 50kw, 300 miles away.

Radio towers in movie Plan 9 from outer space (1957). I saw CBS Studios and
KRCA as well as it looked to the West two tall towers from Hollywood. I am a

Hi guys,

Apologies for the short-sighted comments on 1575. I've never even heard of
Farda! Please keep in mind that I've been an FM listener for most of my DX
days and only know of what I can hear from Korea as far as AM goes. I don't
go globally aside from that region (and only have a working knowledge of the

because the band is ridiculously congested in East Asia, that mainly
consists of all the stations many of you get for TP (including Paul, aside

never in my wildest dreams think of hearing from Korea.

But VOA in Thailand: that's a regular in Korea that I am familiar with.

  - Niche Radio was formerly Rete Italia and as such, was a difficult DX

   - The programming matches the modern pop mideastern sound of Farda.

   - I won't claim to be a great Farsi linguist, but I am going with Farsi

What about R. Iran? They also play sometimes quite modern music and here

My first guess on this one would certainly be the Sydney affiliate of Radio
Niche. I'd tell you to send them an e-mail but their website just times out
time and time again. It should be at i...@nicheradio.com.au. They certainly
have this programming though... and I'd find it hard to believe it's not
them.

Second, but unlikely, would be Radio Iran, though I don't know the specific
language in the song. They're 800kw though, so they've got the power to get
their signal your way for sure.

Anyone who even assumes that would be VOA clearly is language tone-deaf
haha. It's easy to see this is a Middle Eastern region language and not a
southeast Asian one.
