[IRCA] TP 6 Feb Victoria version

2017-02-06 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
In contrast to yesterday, that was a quiet sounding morning that
mostly stayed quiet on second listening. If it wasn't for sunrise
enhancement there would have been very little to note.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1502-4UT, woman in Japanese 1532UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB man in Japanese 1533UT, faded down by 1539UT when a nearly
imaginary "JOUB" was heard just before anthem

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above, passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

567 JOIK woman talking //594 1523UT; western operatic singing //594 1528UT
747 JOIB man talking, //828 1529UT
828 JOBB man talking, //747 1529UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

639 891 954 1323 1386 seemed to be Asian; 1098 1116 likely DU

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] 2006 QSL received

2017-02-06 Thread James Renfrew
My November follow-up marathon has resulted in one more response today by
registered mail. RNE5 1503 KHZ, first reported January 27, 2006. So this
one took 11 years to get back to me. Unusually, the responder notes that
there are two stations, one in Lugo and one in Cadiz. He opted to name
Lugo on the card, with 2 kw. Signer is Jose Antonio GarcĂa Merino,
Direccion de Medios.

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 6 February 2017

2017-02-06 Thread Nigel Pimblett

I could pretty much copy my report from Saturday this morning:

1098	MARSHALL ISLANDS	For the third morning in a row I heard traces of
music and talk here. Heard bits and pieces between 0900 and 1100. The
peak (and I use the term loosely) was around 0930.

15484QD Emerald, AUSTRALIA Traces of talk, then ABC news fanfare
at 1500.

Quite a few carriers on the regular DU channels, but zero from Asia.
Interestingly I also checked my receiver back home, and down there the
DUs were weaker, but I had decent carriers from the Japanese big guns,
with likely some weak audio if I'd been there to dig it out.

[IRCA] Morning fish barrel sneaky peak

2017-02-06 Thread R. Colin Newell
I was up SUPER early because of the SNOW fall in the N.W.

FYI: Victoria, B.C. (100 miles North of Seattle) typically gets
1 DAY of frost a year.

No, folks, we do not live in Igloos.

We likely get less snow than Seattle or Portland and the
average winter temperature in December and January
is 38-42 (F) [6 to 12 degrees C]

We have had frost and snow ON and OFF since late December.
When I went to Hawaii, it was frozen ground and there was snow
and ice at SEATAC when we transited.

Anyway - back to the radio. Signals this morning at 1415 UTC were slight
but carriers persisted until 1500.

That is my report.

Everyone was watching the SUPER BOWL ads and forgot to tune their AM radios
apparently!

Was quite the game too.
