Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-25
--- Begin Message --- I second Gary's comments regarding our meeting. We enjoyed a couple of hours of very stimulating discussion regarding radios, antennas, propagation and DXpedition sites. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Gary and also appreciate the enthusiasm and expertise Gary brings to the hobby. I am very much looking forward to putting the new "baby" FSL through it's paces over the next few days and when I return to Colorado as well. More to come! [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-25
Thanks to Nick and Walt for their initial reports. I just finished a very enjoyable lunch with TP-DXer Craig Barnes from Colorado, during which we discussed all kinds of exciting subjects like antennas, propagation, and how to track down TP's with Ultralight radios and FSL antennas. Craig is an extremely fast learner, and he plans to try out his new 3.5 inch "Baby FSL" chasing TP's with his PL-310 and/ or ICF-2010 at Kalaloch, WA and Rockaway Beach, OR in the next few days. A photo of our meeting is posted at https://app.box.com/s/bgckffuk25nu2aajjik0co5bae9ol705 The Japanese and Korean big guns were setting the pace again this morning during a session from 1300-1400, with 594,693, 972 and 1566 especially potent. As reported previously 657-Pyongyang and its bizarre programming hung around for practically the entire hour, along with some fair peaks from 738-BEL2. 657-Pyongyang apparently has a somewhat reworked TOH routine, with a few seconds of soft female vocal music before the 3 +1 pips. As usual, the 3 + 1 pips seemed much stronger than the TOH routine before and after the pips, and of course North Korea's "TOH" is on the half hour (apparently by order of the "Eternal Leader"). Re: [IRCA] philosophy of logging a new one
--- Begin Message --- Since I am a frequent reporter of just barely audible carriers, often making assumptions on what they are, here`s my take: There are formally no ``new ones`` for me, since long ago I distanced myself from the rat race of tallying up station/country counts, not only on MW but anywave. I realize this is all that seems to matter to many of my colleagues, but my DXing is quite fulfilling for me, as I have no idea how many stations/countries I have heard on various bands, so each log stands on its own. Everyone may feel free to consider how likely my conclusions are to be right, but if they are wrong, it is not detracting from anyone else`s totals. For myself, each clue, such as frequency offset, DFing (which many others don`t seem to do or be able to do with fixed antennas), and loads of previous experience, can add up to a near-definite log. I`m always open for any evidence to the contrary. >From my geographical position, and not doing much antenna experimentation, I >realize I am not likely to get much audio from any TAs or TPs. So >circumstantial evidence will have to do. 73, Glenn Hauser, OK --- End Message --- ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] Limited TP DX on the road in Pirt Townsend, WA
Hi Guys, There was decent audio here from the Japanese and Korean big guns from 1300-1400, as well as a moderate but persistent signal from 657-Pyongyang. The latter stuck around for practically the entire hour, refusing to go away (or come up with better programming). 657 Pyongyang BS Pyongyang, North Korea Incessant female tirade at 1343; almost enough to make you miss the Korean Jammer https://app.box.com/s/18gh8btr9hx7wd6hpqzzxy3new1c9cfy See you for lunch soon, Craig! 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) - Original Message - From: "Nick Hall-Patch" To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" Sent: Saturday, March 25, 2017 8:37:58 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] Limited TP DX on the road in Pirt Townsend, WA Post sunrise audio here in Victoria, Craig. Re: [IRCA] 1053 Korea (all) off the air
It is my understand that the frequency is empty aside from Yanbian during skywave. My sources in Seoul tell me that Haeju is off entirely - if there were an open carrier 60 miles away at 1,500kw, it would be very much noticed. As long as Haeju is off, Seoul and Gimpo have no reason to function at all. Yanbian is pretty powerful and would usually come in strong in the absence of the other stations (when the jammers started turning off after 11:30pm instead of going 24 hours like they used to). They're probably your carrier if you see one, at least if you're talking East Asia.
