[IRCA] TP 17 April Victoria version

2017-04-17 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
The recovery continued, and dawn enhancement started by 1200UT, dying
out a bit after 1300UT just before sunrise. It was even more
predominantly Asian than yesterday, but signals were quite erratic.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK woman in Japanese 1304UT, but not often at this level this morning
747 JOIB English lessons 1232UT
774 JOUB English lessonsat various times very strong
828 JOBB English lessons 1232UT
972 HLCA male vocal music
981 CNR1 woman in Chinese 1255UT //945 and 6135, at one point only
10dB down from CKNW-980

1566 HLAZ woman in Japanese 1231UT, and several other times

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK man and woman in Japanese, then female vocal music 1222UT
1017 CRI assumed with Chinese lessons 1253UT, man and woman repeating
Chinese phrases

1323 CRI man and woman in Russian, "Radio Kitaya" ID at 1226UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

693 JOAB English lessons 1250UT
954 pop music 1254UT, JOKR?
1134 JOQR man in Japanese 1225UT
1386 NHK2, English lessons "good morning" 1213UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

639 JOPB very weak, but woman and man talking //774 1204UT
702 NHK2 English lessons //774 1212UT
711 man talking intensely, Korean inflection ?1218UT
873 JOGB man talking //747 1244UT
891 JOHK man talking, then pop music //594 1254UT
945 CNR1 man talking 1247UT, Chinese inflection, seemed //6125, and
was definitely //981 about 10 minutes later

1053 man and woman talking, possible Japanese 1230-1UT
1143 pop vocal 1257UT
1206 woman talking, offset from channel, Yanbian? 1227UT
1242 pop music 1305-6UT
1287 man and woman Japanese inflection 1303UT
1332 two + one pips 1300UT, then into pop music
1422 woman talking, Japanese inflection 1305UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

531 837 846 864 918 1089 1098 1116 1188 1197 1224 1251
1503 seemed to be Asian;

612 seemed DU

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] Interesting presentation on the Bev-Flex 4 antenna

2017-04-17 Thread Guy Atkins
Wasn't the idea of using coaxial cable as reversible Beverage antenna
elements presented in detail in Vic Misek's "Beverage Antenna Handbook"? I
had a copy in the late 1970s/early 1980s and seem to recall this
configuration.

It's definitely not a new idea with Pixel/InLogis.

[IRCA] Colorado TP DX

2017-04-17 Thread C B via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
This morning's session resulted in more hets than have been heard in quite some
time. I listened from 1157 to 1315.

774 JOUB Weak audio with male and female speaking

828 JOBB a bit stringer audio than JOUB with 2 males speaking, possible
interview?

An interesting collection of hets for this location were heard on 585, 594,
693, 729, 747, 837, 873, 972, 1125, 1134, 1242 and 1332.

Looking forward to trying my hand at some DX from the islands!

Best of DX
