--- Begin Message --- Thanks Jim. Whatever does come out from that DXpedition will be of interest. Other than that we have 2016 DXpeditions in PEI and down-east Maine (Lubec) to work with for somewhat newer info and Allen's postings from Carbonear, NL for a current look. Do let us know what you're hearing there in Orkney. Not too much darkness around there this time of year however. The Newfie stations such as 590 and 930 should be making a showing and maybe a few out of Boston and NYC. 531 here is almost always Algeria (// even louder 549). Way ahead of whatever is second (which is usually Spain). It's been several years since Faroes has been heard. Re: [IRCA] ECLIPSE DX-ING
If there is one argument in favour of buying a SDR, this has to be it. Fine and dandy using a conventional receiver, and follow a handful of frequencies at best, and miss out on the eclipse, but why not enjoy the eclipse, record the MW spectrum and listen later to each frequency and watch it all unfold. A no brainer, from my perspective! I might even also use my 2nd SDR to record part of the tropical band as well. 73, Walt On Sun, May 28, 2017 at 12:40 PM, Scott Fybushwrote: > We will be heading from Rochester to Indiana on the 20th, then assessing > conditions early the morning of the 21st and driving to somewhere along the > path between Marion IL and mid-Kentucky. > > I'm thinking of getting an inexpensive SDR between now and then. > > On May 28, 2017 2:29 PM, "Ira Elbert New III" wrote: > > > I'll be teaching 6th graders social studies on that Monday. Re: [IRCA] ECLIPSE DX-ING
I've Dx'd during a 99% total eclipse -- It's amazing - the hair will stand up on the back of your neck as a moribund daytime MW band convulses and thrashes to life in the space of minutes. In decades of radio listening, there's nothing like it. [IRCA] ECLIPSE DX-ING
I’m curious as to what DX-ers will be doing during the once-in-a-lifetime August eclipse. How about sharing your plans? I will have a D-Kaz oriented at 340 degrees from North-Central Minnesota, with an SDR recording 100 kHz to 1700 kHz. Cheers!
