Asian results here so far this month have been very similar to Nigel's, with a
drastic downtown in TP-DX in comparison to last September.

It's usually a pretty tough transition to switch from ocean coast DU-DXing to
chasing big gun Asians at this mediocre inland location, but at least in
previous years there were a few interesting signals on frequencies like 603,
657, 738 and 1593 to assist in the process. All of those have been completely
lacking so far this month. Fortunately there are still a few ocean coast DU
recordings from the Lincoln City, OR eclipse trip (August 20-23) to review
here.

Very interesting - thanks to you and Bill W for compiling/sharing. I
don't have the same data to back up my thoughts, but my observations
here (even prior to reading Nick's post) was that Asia is down
considerably from last year, and the DUs are better than at the same
time in 2016. Usually by mid September I've had several decent Asian
days, whereas this year I had one back in August and nothing since. For
DUs I've probably had audio on about the same number of days as last
year, but last year it was nearly always 4BC on 1116 and/or Newstalk ZB
on 1035. This year I've had audio from a wider range of stations.
Can't comment too much on HF conditions, as with the loss of so many
broadcasters that had quality programming my program listening has gone
down to nearly nil. I still check the bands sometimes from a DXing
perspective, but lately that's been limited to checking out the new Ozy
Radio on 5045.

In Minnesota at 1200 on 091717

521 (ORC); 594, 612, 702, 738, 747 much weaker than yesterday.

The usual low-end suspects indicate even the shortened 110-foot D-Kaz works
okay F/B at 250 degrees:

560-KWTO,  590-KSUB,  610-KNML,  620-KTAR,  690-KTSM,  760-KTBA,  790-KFYE;

Whereas yesterday, I could understand specific words, that was not really

Once again, no audio on 702 and a fast wild SAH between Sydney and Auckland.

Weak mx on 1098 at 1128 sd/lk it could be their anthem.

Strong het/carrier on 621 likely needed 3RN but as always way too much WTMJ

The bottom two graphs are DU and TP DX quantity/quality from

somewhat better DU.   As a host of other geomagnetic indices are also

[IRCA] IL DU chase 9/17/17

2017-09-17 Thread Neil Kazaross
Things not as good this morning. Little more than threshold audio on 612
and 738 near sunrise.
Whereas yesterday, I could understand specific words, that was not really
the case today.

Once again, no audio on 702 and a fast wild SAH between Sydney and Auckland.

Weak mx on 1098 at 1128 sd/lk it could be their anthem.

Strong het/carrier on 621 likely needed 3RN but as always way too much WTMJ
slop. My locals and semi locals go to day rig at 1130 in Sept which raises
the QRM level rather seriously.

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] New logging

2017-09-17 Thread James Niven
Thanks for the tip Bill and Steve, noted here this morning 09/17/2017 at 7am
with strong signal here in Austin, TX with continuous loop to pull in buyers of
air time.

I also checked my SDR recording for 09-15-2017 and it was there on this date. I
did check my 09/10/2017 SDR recording but did not hear it, but the recording
was at 4am, so it could have been on later in the week. So, it appears to have
come back on the air between 09/10 and 09/15 or so.

New log here and makes 15 new logs this year on AM.

Subject: [NRC-AM] New logging

1520 KQQB TX Stockdale - 9/17 0154 EDT - Per Bill Block tip, poor but
readable under Buffalo with "This is AM 1520 KQQB Stockdale-San Antonio." A
2500 watt daytimer with primary lobe aimed west. Per the I Love AM Radio
Facebook site, it's a repeating loop describing the station and soliciting
potential buyers. They were at it as well the previous two nights both before
and after midnight CDT, per John Johnson in Arizona, who said a California DXer
also has heard it. So it looks as if KQQB is NSP for the time being. First
newie here in six long months!

[IRCA] CO TP Report 9-17-17

2017-09-17 Thread C B via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
Thanks to Kaz for another reminder to get up earlier to try for some DUs! I
listened from 1141 to 1330 this morning. Although the DUs and Asian TPs were
somewhat weak, at least they were there. LSR was at 1344.

DU audios were all just above at threshold level on 594 at 1147, 1098 at 1152,
774 at 1202 and 702 at 1223

The only Asian audio this morning was on JOUB, 774 at 1315 with male and female
with what sounded like the EE lesson usually on at that time.

DU hets were heard on 612, 738 and 1008

Asian hets were heard on 594, 693, 747, 828, 972, 1035 and a weak het on 1566

Best of DX,
