[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 29 September 2017

Another New Zealand oriented morning here, but with a bit more 
audio than yesterday.   Had audio from Radio Tarana on 1386, Radio Sport 
on 1332, and traces from presumed Newstalk ZB on 1026 and 1035.  The 
only Aussie to make audio was 4QD on 1548, which actually did quite well 
from several minutes with an interview around 1318.   A number of X-band 
carriers but nothing in audio.

A very weak Atlanta Radio Korea, WQXI 790. Way in the mush but could hear
the Korean in there, only knew Of one Station on 790 Broadcasting such
stuff and matched  my radio to their webstream. 1235am eastern 9/30 in NW PA

[IRCA] 670 Cuban shoot-out Dobleve + Rebelde

Wondering if someone flipped the wrong switch somewhere as Dobleve (best known 
from 840 that totally trashes WHAS here) audio is being fed through some of the 
670 Cubans while some of the others are still running Rebelde audio.  Must 
sound chaotic in Cuba as it's a bad enough pig-pile here.

So, I will say.. I thought the liner was a legal ID and said "WBZN
Ebensburg" which would make no sense because while Ebensburg, PA had a
station on 950, its been gone a few years but was never WBZN.

Completely over taking WGN 720 and even when WGCR faded out, no clear sign

650  UNID…Possibly RADIO FORMULA XEVG  Merida, Yucatan, MEXICO ?? Sept/27/17
2100 EDT SPANISH POOR to FAIR.
Under WSM Nashville, but some fade ups and heard better during Dead Air Spots 
of WSM.
Male Announcer in Spanish with Talk under WSM. At one point he said "Radio 
Merida".
That was fairly clear, but couldn't make much more out of the SS Talk. Heard 
for about 
2 Minutes. XEVG uses the Radio Formula Moniker….not Radio Merida….but who 
knows??
Has anyone else ever heard this station using "Radio Merida" IDs???

[IRCA] DX398 REPAIR

My DX398 is having a few problems:
(1) No audio out of the speaker
(2) Right channel only on earphones (with occasional short bursts of audio on 
the left, amidst crackling)
(3) “RDS” appears all the time while the radio is off
(4) RDS info is extremely slow coming, even on strong signals.

I have written Rod Walberg with no response. I also recall that a Mr. Ramos did 
repairs but the latest correspondence indicates no responses from him either.

I there anyone else out there in DXland who still repairs these? If so, contact 
info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Interesting a was fine for low band DU's here in IL this morn. 2BL 702 was
decent at times as I could hear Christine Anu interviewing some kind of
collector. The carrier from the co-channel Kiwi was there but never made it
strong enough to cause the often violent SAH. 2NR 738 was in // as usual to
702 but not better than poor on peaks. I think I'll find trace audio from a
couple others as there were quite a few decent carriers.

As I've had EVERY morning when I checked this month, audio from V7AB 1098
near their s/off time about 1130 UT.  73 KAZ 35 miles NW of Chicago

Surprised how quickly TPs recovered from the solar activity; at least a 
number with a little audio. I did a quick check for Japan at 1300 TOH 
and got some low band ones; the pips and chime are barely audible (what 
I call 'very poor'). Not much for mid/upper band though 1566 HLAZ was 
decent a couple of times. Not much for expanded band though 1656 had a 
het toward the end. Many hets over low band especially at the start.

[IRCA] WKAQ 580 San Juan, Puerto Rico into NW Pennsylvania

WKAQ-AM 580 San Juan, Puerto Rico @ 1230AM Eastern September 29, 2017 into
NW Pennsylvania. Signal was fairly weak but clear enough, a native speaker
could understand it and did. A Univision Radio staff member in NYC whos
form PR listened to the clip and mentioned it to their San Juan engineer to
"officially" confirm for me.

It hung around for about 5-10 minutes and shortly was lost in the jumble.
