After watching Colin's You Tub video (great signal) I decided to give 846 a try
tonight. Heard them weak with local splatter at 0715 utc. Woman talking and man
in Kiribati?  Fair signal briefly 0725 utc, but faded out at 0729 utc. Back
with fair signal and Island Music at 0737. Best signal on Random wire.
Fair signal at 0740 utc for JOUB 774 weak-fair for JOBB 828 kHz. Best on NW ewe.

[IRCA] TP 3 Dec Victoria version

2017-12-03 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
A considerable improvement this morning, mostly the big guns acting
fairly big, but that's quite an improvement.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1512UT
774 JOUB as early as 1346UT, English lessons: "umbrellas available at
many of the vending machines across the Kanto area". Many other
times up to about 1530UT, at this level.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

693 JOAB man in Japanese //774 1453UT, once CBU splatter took a break.
828 JOBB man in Japanese //747 1503UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

747 JOIB man in Japanese //774 1500UT, no pips on hour?
972 assumed HLCA; pop vocals 1543UT
1566 HLAZ; woman in Chinese after female vocals 1536UT; still
hanging around 1617UT after others all gone

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

567 JOIK man talking //594; 1502UT
603 soft music, man talking over top; Korean intonation 1512UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

873 891 1143 1251 1278 1287 1323  1422 1458 1593 seemed to be Asian;
nothing seemed to be DU

Yes, an early check wasn't great but a late check now, 0514 utc, is much
improved. Decent audio on 171, 183, 198 (probably best this season), 252
(sync det level even). And 162 data warble good level (CW mode).

Re: [IRCA] S. AZ TPs December 3

2017-12-03 Thread Chris Kadlec
Steve, are you sure you weren't on 1467 instead? There is no jammer in the DPRK
on 1476. That frequency is Sound of the Great Northern Wilderness in most of
the area. 1467 is a powerful DPRK jammer, however. It often bleeds over onto
1476, but I can't imagine you'd get the local bleed-over from such a distance.
However, Great Northern Wilderness has a decent deal of Korean-language
programming. I can check if there is a new jammer on this frequency to block
it, as it seems that was their intention with the 1584 jammer, also blocking
this network's sister station with Korean, but it seems unlikely.

Very poor TP conditions lately, but this morning was better with a few
heard with audio. After sunrise the mid/high band had many hets come up,
with quite a few close to audio for about 10 minutes. Sunrise 1409 utc.

774 Japan best at 1353 utc with EE lessons, very poor/poor

972 S Korea 1355 utc very poor talk

1476 N Korea jammer noted 1410 utc (CW mode with its buzzy sound)

1566 S Korea HLAZ 1434 utc best with brief fadeup to poor (sync det)
male talk

1566 N Korea jammer noted under HLAZ het now and then 1411 utc; fading
after 1440 utc

1575 VOA assumed, traces of talk 1422 utc

1593 China 1423 utc very poor talk

Re: [IRCA] noontime 1575 etc

2017-12-03 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

That seems to correlate pretty well with what was observed in Victoria Don.

MW conditions from Europe have been unobservable until this evening
(1575 slowly building in strength, though still a carrier, and
nothing else noted yet). East Asia was very poor on Saturday
morning, though better than on Friday. I haven't gone through this
morning in detail yet, but the signal strengths look considerably
better from East Asia than on Saturday.

best wishes,

Nick

I was also going to mention, just for general interest of guys like Nick
and a few others, the conditions experienced from here in the ARRL 160
contest this weekend. Friday evening was pretty normal, no Europe. Sat
morning only 2 of the bigger Japan stations. Saturday evening still no
Europe but we did see two stations from far Northern Europe that were
hearing us. We didn't hear any Europeans calling us. Sunday morning was
significantly better to Japan and we worked dozens of them. Not sure how
that correlates to any MW stuff you guys saw on Sat vs Sunday..
