[IRCA] TP 12 Jan Victoria version

2018-01-12 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Several Chinese turned up this morning (but not some of the Japanese
that Nigel heard), and there was a definite sunrise/post sunrise peak
in the upper band

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

774 JOUB several times at this level
1566 HLAZ man in Russian 1638UT; believe it or not, this was when
HLAZ' signal was strongest, well after local sunrise.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

639 CNR1 man in Chinese 1513UT; a couple of minutes earlier, when
weaker, it had been noted //945

828 JOBB female ballad //774 1458UT
972 HLCA man in Korean 1458UT, fading down towards pips on the hour

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

594 JOAK man in Japanese //567 1503UT
693 JOAB woman and man in Japanese //774 1540UT
747 JOIB man in Japanese //774 1501UT
873 JOGB ballad //774 before the hour; woman talking in Japanese 1501UT
1287 JOHR man in Japanese 1517UT
1575 VoA "you are listening to the Voice of America" by man, 1600UT
1593 CNR1 woman in Chinese 1601UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

567 JOIK man talking //594 1503UT
603 woman singing ballad 1519UT; Korea?
837 JOQK man talking //594 1505UT
945 CNR1 man talking //639 1511UT
981 CNR1 man talking //639 1520UT
1098 woman talking, Chinese intonation 1508UT
1134 woman talking Japanese intonation 1508UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

 558 738 855 864 891 918 936 1089 1143 1179 1188 1206 1242 1251
1269 1323 1359 1377 1386 1422 1458 1494 1503 1539 1557 1575
seemed to be Asian;

 nothing seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 12 January 2018

2018-01-12 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Steve called it correctly this morning, as today was even better than
yesterday. This week has seen the best spell of Asian DX seen here all
season. The lower band was about the same as yesterday, but the upper
band was improved. The peak seemed to occur well before our 1517
sunrise, and indeed things were on the way down by 1430.

567	JOIK	Sapporo, JAPAN	Time pips at 1300, into talk by man in Japanese
after that.

594 JOAKTokyo, JAPANWoman speaking in Japanese at 1306

666	JOBK	Osaka, JAPAN	Time pips at 1300, then man in Japanese. This one
was not as good as yesterday.

693	JOAB	Tokyo, JAPAN	Inferior to the other 'big guns' today, and not
reaching audio until 1325.

738 unIDWoman talking at 1307, but too weak to be sure on language.

747 JOIBSapporo, JAPAN Man and woman with English language lesson at
1303

774	JOUB	Akita, JAPAN	Man and woman with English language lesson at
1304, //747.

819 unIDMan talking at 1257, but too weak to ID language.

828	JOBB	Osaka, JAPAN	Man and woman presenting English lesson (talking
about Sri Lankan Navy saving 2 elephants) at 1305.

873	JOGB	Kumamoto, JAPAN Much like yesterday, with bits of pieces of
the language lesson making it through the splatter at 1414.

972 HLCADanjing, S.KOREAWoman speaking in Korean at 1309

1017unIDTraces of audio with music at 1417.

11164BC Brisbane, AUSTRALIA Woman presenting a commercial at 1316.

1134unIDTraces of piano music and man speaking at 1259

1278unIDJOFR? Very weak, but man seemed to be talking in Japanese at
1443

1287JOHRSapporo, JAPAN Woman talking in Japanese at 1330

1377	CNR1	CHINA	Woman in Chinese at 1446 audible during gaps in 1380
splatter.

1386	NHK2	synchros, JAPAN	Time pips at 1400, short musical theme, then
man and woman with language lesson.

1422JORFYokohama, JAPAN Traces of woman in Japanese at 1439

1503uID Traces of audio at 1440

1566HLAZJeju, S.KOREA Man talking in Japanese at 1310.

2018-01-12 Thread Don Moman VE6JY
just checked for any TA signs - nada at 0300. The SM's and OH's were good
here last night on 160 and numerous JA's in our morning - evidence of which
came from the CW Skimmer here feeding RBN. Things were considerably
enhanced over normal conditions.

[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, January 6-12, 2018

2018-01-12 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
All times and dates strictly UT [5 hours ahead of `ELT` during EST; when
changing times one must also change the dates for events in the 00-05 UT period
to the previous date by ELT].

Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S
inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as specified; IC-R75
with E-W longwire. FRG-7 is no longer in use.

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives
without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open
access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page66
[over 276,000 views! as of January 12, 2018]

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of
USA [if any], unidentified [if any], separated by === Within each, they are
in frequency order

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1210, Jan 6 at 0104 UT, KGYN Guymon is blasting in
obviously on day pattern failing to protect Philadelphia, ``The Big Talker,
1210 KGYN``. I try nulling it and from right angle can hear a list of stations
in the Rio Grande Valley, obviously the network including KUBR San Juan whose
night pattern is supposed to have tight major lobe toward its west; and
cardioid null toward WPHT in daytime (??), per NRC Pattern Book. I thought
these might be reversed, but confirmed as such in FCC AM Query. In any event,
we should not be getting so much signal from either station; together they make
a heavy 160/minute SAH = 2.67 Hz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

==

** U S A. 840, Jan 12 at 1400 UT, KTIC ID with temp minus 4, and ``Classic
Country 98.3`` with translator call I don`t copy; NRC AM Log had it as K252EG
West Point NE and slogan as ``Rural Radio``. The latter applies to a bunch of
Nebraska stations including KRVN 880 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1067 & 1093 peaks, Jan 7 at 0232 UT, IBOC noise is back out of 1080
KRLD. Mark Sills in Dallas had welcomed its absence during December. DXers hope
that CBS disposing of stations to Entercom would also lead to the end of IBOC
upon them (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1120, Jan 7 at 0227 UT, KMOX interviewing conductor Leonard Slatkin
about the classical music world, surprisingly. Show is `KMOX Profiles` at 01-03
UT Sundays, followed by the classic rock show deviating from news/talk, `Route
66 on KMOX with Johnny Rabbitt`, UT Sundays 03-07 per sked:
http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/kmox-programming-schedule/
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1210, Jan 12 at 1405 UT, Huron ads following ABC News, i.e. KOKK in
SD; temps -5 F, windchill -24. Over KGYN OK easily nulled (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1710 kHz, Jan 12 at 0706 UT, soft strumming guitar music, some pirate
other than Bâton Rouge LA? 0710 UT announcement sounds like Spanish, and I hear
a ``siete`` mentioned, perhaps referring to their FM frequency (not really
busted and off?). By 0718 UT voice changes to something more strident, which
would be the usual gospel huxter from Radio Retén lo que Tienes. Certainly
holding on to what they`ve got, legal or not (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1810 kHz, Jan 11 at 0049, JBA carrier, seems to be pulsing a bit. Tnx
to Don Moman for forwarding a current Topband thread about this, IDed as WKYW,
Frankfort KY, 1490 kHz, oldies format, somehow radiating in the 160m hamband,
with many hams on the case, hearing it much stronger all over east America
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Another thread figured it was someone
relaying this station, and it was gone in an hour or so
