Hello Nick-san,

How are you?

I agree with Paul. We would need an audio clip. But definitely no activity
with WMEX. I check 1510 every day.

[IRCA] TP 13 Jan Victoria version

2018-01-13 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

A fallback in conditions this morning

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

1566 HLAZ peaked at 1602UT with woman in Chinese, but was also at
pretty good strength later with Russian talk at 1632, 1637 and 1642UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

639 CNR1 man in Chinese, slightly offset from //6125, 1526UT
774 JOUB woman mentioning NHK 1539UT
972 HLCA man in Korean 1537UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

594 JOAK man and woman in Japanese 1523UT
693 JOAB man in Japanese //774, then male ballad 1521UT
738 3 and 1 pips heard faintly on hour; by 1502UT at reasonable
level with woman in Chinese; Taiwan?

747 JOIB man in Japanese //774 1505UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

[IRCA] a few logs tonight - Cape Cod, MA

2018-01-13 Thread Mark Connelly via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---

Before the start of the Pats winning game against Tennessee, I got a bit of
DXing in.

Rather than having everyone wait a week or more for the complete Perseus files
review, I'll pop out a few of the more interesting catches right away.

2100 UTC / 4 p.m. EST: 13 JAN
Romania - 756
Scotland - 810
Neither station was really strong but both were completely alone on channel.
This more than a half hour pre-sunset.

2200 UTC / 5 p.m. EST: 13 JAN
Romania - 603
Belgium - 621
Both relatively free of Spain interference.

On 1530, a sign-off of WJDM-NJ was directly followed by a sign-off of VOA Sao
Tome. No sign of WVBF or WCKY.

Audio clips of these will be made available when I put a 2018 links HTML page
together.

TA antenna is now back in operation as a cardioid (null west). That was a
must-do since operating it as bidirectional east-west was rubbish for foreign
DX. (On the other hand it was great for hearing anything, even peanut power,
from NYC metro,)

The south antenna is temporarily configured as bidirectional (figure-of-8,
pick-up lobes 165 / 345 deg.) until I fix up a transformer box.

My daughter and her family live in Kona and this scared the hell out of them.
They thought it was the end.

Yes - the more people I talked to, the more I got this sense. Very upsetting.

We live in tense times.
