[IRCA] TP 16 Jan Victoria version

2018-01-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Some improvement in conditions this morning, with HLAZ peaking well
after local sunrise, and apparent Chinese on 837. The occasionally
strong carrier on 846 was also noted, but no audio heard, so
presumably the transmitter had been left on after s/off?

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

774 JOUB woman in Japanese 1517UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

1566 HLAZ man in Russian 1640UT was the best strength heard on this
one; was at least at mumble level, and often better, between 1600UT
to after 1700UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

594 JOAK woman in Japanese, man on phone, 1540UT
693 JOAB woman in Japanese 1517UT //774
828 JOBB woman in Japanese 1501UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

612 woman talking; English intonation, 1502UT
747 JOIB pop music //774 1458UT
837 man talking Chinese intonation 1517UT
972 HLCA, man and woman talking; Korean?.heard as late as 1716UT
with man talking

1575 woman talking, Chinese intonation? 1510UT
1593 CNR1 faint female vocal music //6125 1610UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

  567 603 639 738 918 1134 1188 1287 1314 1323 1386 1458
1539seemed to be Asian;

 846 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 16 January 2018

2018-01-16 Thread Nigel Pimblett
A bit of an improvement today, with the regulars reaching audio this
morning.

594 JOAKTokyo, JAPANMan speaking in Japanese at 1331.

693 JOABTokyo, JAPANpor, with man in Japanese at 1303.

747 JOIBSapporo, JAPAN reached audio by 1334 with woman in Japanese,
//774

774 JOUBAkita, JAPANWoman with language lesson heard at 1319.

828	JOBB	Osaka, JAPAN	The strongest TP at 1320, with woman presenting
language lesson.

1116	4BC	Brisbane, AUSTRALIA	Very weak, but traces of talk programming
noted at 1357.

1566HLAZJeju, S.KOREA Choir singing a hymn at 1328.

I also noticed that the Kiribati carrier stayed on past 1030 today, and
I had a decent carrier this morning on 846, which makes we wonder if it
was on all night.

Re: [IRCA] [CapeDX] 1530 VOA Sao Tome at sign-on and sign-off

2018-01-16 Thread Theo
I was wondering the same thing about listenership back in December while
cruising in the western Injun Ocean.  909 (and 4930) from Botswana
thumped in at night on a stock PL380 while on a circuit
Mauritius/Seychelles/Zanzibar/Comoros/Reunion/Mauritius.

Then '60 Minutes' on CBS a week or so back were tut-tutting about
'RT/Russia Today' complete with 'Larry King Live' being available on
cable...

Re: [IRCA] TP 16 Jan Kona version

2018-01-16 Thread R. Colin Newell
Last night we had a community wide power outage for over an hour —

Noise levels went from S9+ to around S5...
Amazing how much remained.

I’m thinking the culprits are solar arrays
And stuff being re-radiated by the temporarily off-line 13kv distribution.

By the time I got back from the Alii drive,
I had about 15 minutes to listen (around 0700) and there were oceanic carriers
- little else.,
