[IRCA] TP 9 Apr Victoria version

2018-04-09 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Back to China again this morning, with several holding forth. Quite a sharp
peak between 1310 and 1320UT, not as interesting before and after that period.
Within the period.."I'm sure there's DX that was missed".

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

972 HLCA male pop vocal 1307UT

1566 HLAZ man in Japanese, choral music 1312UT; bigger on the north Flag

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK woman and man in Japanese //567 1312UT

747 JOIB English lessons 1254UT

756 CNR1 man in rapid Chinese 1312UT //981

774 JOUB English lessons 1259UT

828 JOBB woman in Japanese 1306UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

567 JOIK woman talking //594 1314UT; another station there too (Korea?)

603 HLSA female slow vocal 1313UT, //558 a minute later

693 JOAB lessons //774 1307UT

837 CNR5? woman in Chinese 1305UT

918 Shandong assumed, man in Chinese 1311UT

945 CNR-1 man in Chinese 1306UT. Still recognizable Chinese man and woman on
the channel at 1440UT today

963 CRI woman in Russian 1319UT //1323 a few minutes earlier

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

558 HLQH vocal music then woman talking //603 1313-4UT

603 unID rhythmic music, not //558 1315UT, maybe NZ, as not audible on north
Flag??

621 China, unID. Chinese pips 1300UT, not much else then, but developed into
vocal pop music 1302UT. Nothing very strong listed?

702 pop vocal , maybe NHK2 in there as well 1311UT, not much DU today but??

873 JOGB talki //774 1302UT, but also another station with a deep voiced man

981 CNR1 man and woman in Chinese //6125 1324UT

1323 CRI woman talking, likely Russian as //963 1315UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

585 639 738 891 936 1035 1044 1098 1116 1134 1143 11179 215 1242 1251 1287
1386 1422 1548 1593  seemed to be Asian;
 585 675 846 891 909 1017 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] Cook Islands (Aitutaki) Ultralight DU's for 4-9

2018-04-09 Thread Gary DeBock
Thanks Bruce, I'll give both of them a try.

630-Cook Islands doesn't sign off at local midnight any more; it abruptly
switches to a Newstalk ZB feed at 2358 local time (0958 UTC). It apparently
runs the Newstalk ZB programming all night long, then resumes its local
programming around 0600 local time (1600 UTC). Unfortunately the Internet is so
slow on this island (and they nail you so many $$ to use it) that I can't post
an MP3 of it currently.

Way to go, Gary.

Nice going on 6DL.  Maybe Indonesia and Philippines are next? They're
not that much different from Western Australia in terms of bearing and
distance.

531-6DL was probably the star of the session, shutting down the usual More FM/ PI snarl
from the "Mother Country" around 1625. The Kiwis were once again pounding in
during most of the session, with even the extremely rare 585-Radio Ngati Porou making an

2018-04-09 Thread Gary DeBock
Hi Tony,

Kia Orana! This place is about as different from North America as you can get--
hot and humid, wacky rain and windstorms, Kiwi dollars and turbo-boosted ocean
beach DX!

990-Fiji Gold was S9.like all the other Pacific island DU's this morning,
despite using only my hand-held hot-rodded Ultralight--

the wildest ocean beach propagation anyone could ever ask for. Wish you were
here-- the entire place runs on Kiwi dollars-- usually for far more than the
value of whatever you get as a tourist :-) But the ocean beach propagation is
worth the cost of an entire trip!

Thanks Craig,

The DU propagation here is in a much higher league than what we get on the west
coast, making the hot-rodded Ultralights unusually competitive for long range
DX. I'm pretty sure that 531-6DL was coming in on the 7,5" loopstick CC Skywave
