[IRCA] TP 9 Oct Victoria version.

2018-10-09 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Definitely an improvement this morning, though still not too exciting

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

594 JOAK woman in Japanese 1403UT

747 JOIB man in Portuguese 1358UT

774 JOUB English lessons 1417UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

558 HLQH ballad //603 1408UT

567 JOIK man in Japanese 1356UT

612 4QR ABC news 1402UT

693 JOAB man in Portuguese 1356UT

828 JOBB, English lessons, taking out the garbage, 1407UT

864 HLKR man in Korean 1401UT; of course on the hour, it was all that could be
done to hear the time pips

972 HLCA Korean talk, hefty pop music 1405UT

1287 JOHR woman in Japanese, better on north Flag

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

603 HLSA woman in Korean 1401UT //558 at various times

738 Taiwan Fisheries man in Chinese //1143 1413UT

873 JOGB man in Portuguese //774 1357UT

1143 Taiwan Fisheries man in Chinese //738 1413UT

1566 HLAZ man in Chinese, woman agreeing, 1416UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

594 light pop music often under 594 around 1400UT; no IDs on hour, and not
//612; no idea...maybe should have been looking for a Filipino web stream?

675 pop music 1355UT, no parallels, possibly New Zealand?

837 JOQK man talking //594 1354UT

891 JOHK man in Japanese //594 1354UT

1008 man talking Japanese intonation 1412UT

1242 pop vocal 1411UT; better on N. Flag so likely JOLF

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

 585 621 639 657 702 819 846 855 909 918 936 945 1017 1053 1089 1503 seemed to
be Asian;
1017 seemed to be DU (Napier NZ is supposed to be around 1584.025kHz)

best wishes,

Nick

Conditions were improved this morning. The
Japanese and Korean big guns were the mainstays. I listened from 1302 to 1432.

567 w/ male and female, weak, poss. JOIK or HLKF

594 JOAK I believe this was the loudest I’ve
heard them, anywhere! W/male in JJ. I would
estimate an S8 signal until well after LSR.

657 fair to good, on peaks, w/female w/somber
singing followed by choir w/martial sounding mx, probably North Korea

693 JOAB good w/fem in JJ, Brazilian Portuguese later on

747 JOIB w/fem in JJ, weak

774 JOUB w/fem in JJ, good

828 JOBB good w/male and female w/language lesson, sounded like CC

972 HLCA w/male speaking in?? In and out

1179 Asian singing under KLAY splatter, poss. CHN?

1566 HLAZ weak w/male speaking

Better, but not the equivalent of the recent
Saturday morning bonanza! The highlight of the
trip was getting together with the Victoria DX contingent. What fun!

Craig Barnes

Re: [IRCA] TP 8 Oct Victoria version.

2018-10-09 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
It's amazing how that can happen Mark, and when listening on split
frequencies, the problem is even worse. If you are DXing, presumably
you want to hear something, and many of our brains are quite capable
of providing that.

Yesterday morning, TP DX was pretty much wiped out, but there was
plenty of "near imaginary" audio, or maybe it was just plain
imaginary. At best, it can sometimes be paralleled up with another
signal, with the "near imaginary" in one ear, and the network
parallel in the other, but it's amazing the number of times I've had
to conclude that it was all a misconception

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] TP 9 Oct Victoria Live version.

2018-10-09 Thread R. Colin Newell
As of 1400 UTC with a quick look prior to a shower, breakfast and work - it
looks like a return to medium-normal this morning based on what’s on Nicks
FishBarrel Radar.

Hopefully Donald Barnes is basking in armchair signals from dial top to bottom.

[IRCA] TP 8 Oct Victoria version.

2018-10-09 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
As others have pointed out, rather a deadly morning, with a few odd weak ones,
and still a couple of Asians

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

nope

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 surprisingly JOAK delivered this level a couple of times at 1333 and 1357UT
with man and woman in Japanese

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

594 3WV man in DU English at 1307UT, but also at 1401UT, though with poorer
level

774 JOUB woman in Japanese 1327UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

603 man talking, island language? definitely better on west Flag 1401UT Waatea?

612 4QR woman talking 1402UT //594

657 quiet vocal music, quiet woman speaking 1352UT, likely Star?

693 JOAB assumed with English lessons 1407-09T

756 RNZ National assumed with jazz, pips, man with "...news" 1400UT

828 JOBB woman talking //774 1337UT

1296 man and woman talking, DU English intonation perhaps; not //612/594, and
no ZB parallels available

1494 woman talking 1403UT, Tagalog maybe?

1503 man mumbling 1404-06UT, sounded almost like preaching

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

747 seemed to be Asian;
531 567 585 675 738 837 1098 1215 1476 1584.025 seemed to be DU (Napier NZ is
supposed to be around 1584.025kHz)

best wishes,

Nick
