[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 13 January 2019

[IRCA] TP 13 Jan Victoria version.

2019-01-13 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
a return, at last, to a small semblance of TPs. High point today was Taiwan on
1557 complete with an ID. There was also a small Aussie opening around 1540UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

594 JOAK 1547UT

612 4QR ABC news app announcement 1541UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

774 JOUB music box s/off 1532UT

828 JOBB English lessons 1501UT, but strength deteriorated from then on

1557 RTI Taiwan, nice lady read an ID right out of the pages of WRTH: "
...chungyang guangpo dientai, Taiwan chih yin" 1613UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

594 3WV //612 over JOAK 1537UT

1566 HLAZ woman in Russian 1651UT, then fading up and down until 1700UT, when
perfectly serviceable "welcome to the Voice of America" and a VoA jingle were
heard

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

576 music and talk, only on west Flag 1535UT 2RN?

585 pop music, west Flag only, not //576 or 594 1534UT; 2WEB?

693 JOAB music box s/off 1531UT

702 2BL //612 and leading somewhat 1537UT

738 2NR lagging 612 a bit 1539UT

774 3LO //612 1537UT

873 JOGB s/off anthem 1530UT

891 5AN ABC fanfare 1530UT

972 woman talking Korean intonation? 1622UT

1017 man talking, island intonation? 1533UT

1287 man talking, Japanese intonation 1602UT

1323 light music 1536UT CRI?

1575 man talking, SE Asian language? 1537UT, better on north Flag

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)
747 891  918 945 1188 1242 1332 1593  seemed to be Asian;
 567 846 855 936 1098 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

** SAUDI ARABIA. 1521, Jan 8 at 1745 on caradio as I drive around
Enid, JBA het upon nearby KOKC. Hard to believe it be the 2000 kW from
Duba, even before noon here, but can`t think of a better explanation.
On the caradio so not a local device, altho I have also heard it on
home rigs. Close skywave is certainly in play now tnx to the lowsun on
highband, from at least Iowa to Texas. So if Saudi can get to the east
coast, it`s not too fantastic to reach this farther under the
circumstances. Are they hearing it in Massachusetts this early? Other
spots further from a local 1520 should listen for it too, and try to
get a bearing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Folks,

Just so you know, I sent the station a "contact" via their web site. I received
a phone call very quickly and explained the problem. It was fixed by the next
day when I was able to log the call letters for the IRCA contest.

[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, January 7-13, 2019

2019-01-13 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA

All times and dates strictly UT!

Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S
inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as specified; IC-R75
with E-W longwire.

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives
without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:

** U S A. 800, Jan 8 at 1323 UT, ``Motown Radio, 92.5`` and another FM
frequency, ``back to oldies`` --- what? Surely not CKLW.

The excellent WTFDA FM Database
http://db.wtfda.org/fac_frequency/down/1
immediately has the answer as I search on the slogan even tho I am
hearing this on AM:
``K223CR KVOM-800 92.5 MORRILTON AR USA 0.25 0.25 0.0 0.0
35-08-52 92-52-05 OLDIES MOTOWN RADIO``

Morrilton is in central AR near LR, 300 miles away. KVOM is the
closest 800 to the east, but believe it is new here. Of course, this
was all with KQCV OKC nulled, and BTW nothing heard from XEROK (Glenn
Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1570, Jan 8 at 1748 UT on caradio, low audible het from
some of the midday skywave, besides XERF and KTUZ (Glenn Hauser, OK,
