Re: [IRCA] 880 KJJR Montana

2019-02-21 Thread Volodya S
Paul, I guess it's that reception was so good, that it's hard to believe
just 500 watts. But, we all know the vagaries of propagation! Nice to
hear, though. The Spaniard is back totally dominating at 03:47 UTC.
Pretty sure an American station. Ad for a taxi, from the sounds of
itWalt

I just checked with the engineer at KJJR and he assured me after checking
the transmitter via remote control, that its running its 500W Non

I know the engineer, I'll ask.

Why do we claim somethings on day power when we cant prove it? thats why
stations dont wanna deal with DX'ers

[IRCA] 880 KJJR Montana

2019-02-21 Thread Volodya S
Unusual propagation into Victoria. 880 is normally dominated by KIXI from
Seattle. Tonight, though, there's been a hodge podge of cochannels on
880. There's a Spanish speaker there (dominating at 03:34 UTC, perhaps
KWIP, Dallas OR? But at 03:25 or so, there was a very clear ID. "Turn
your dial all the way to the right, 107.9 KJJR". That's interesting, as
they didn't mention 880 at all. KJJR is listed for Whitefish, MT with 10
kW day, and 500 watts at night. Nice catch. Maybe on day power? Wonder
whether this was one of the Montana stations that had DX tests maybe 10

[IRCA] TP 21 Feb Victoria version.

2019-02-21 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
The lights weren't quite switched off this morning, but, close...

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

not in the slightest

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

no indeed

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

unreasonable

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

567 JOIK //594 briefly 1456UT then back into the murk

594 JOAK //567 at 1456UT; in its own murk much of the time

774 woman and man talking, Japanese intonation 1420UT

972 man talking, perhaps Korean 1432UT

1566 woman talking, maybe Chinese 1502UT; rough sounding carrier, and maybe
another signal there also...music.

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)

 603 747 1242 1422 1557 1575 1611 seemed to be Asian;
  657 756 837 891 1017 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] 1240 WBAS MA off

2019-02-21 Thread Mark Connelly via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
The local station here, 1240 WBAS W. Yarmouth MA, has been off air since 18
FEB or earlier. Still off as of 21 FEB. A few messages on a local reflector
about what else has shown up on 1240 are reproduced below.

WOON-RI slightly atop probable WEZR-ME mid-day and a layer of background stuff
likely including WSYY-ME, WGBB-NY, WFTN-NH.
WHMP-MA showed up on the car radio about an hour pre-sunset yesterday. Other
New England, NY, and NJ stations should be fairly easy pickings at night.

1240 WBAS has been off air the last two nights at least.

WEZR from Maine seems to pop atop the jumble a bit more than others but the
channel is often just a tangle.
