Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] WHYL DX Test This Weekend!!! New info

2009-03-12 Thread Bruce Collier
My attorney will be in touch--oh wait, his accommodations are as a guest of the
county right now. Never mind.  Here's another update:

I will have sweep tones.  I will have Morse ID's at least 6x/hr at different
frequencies, going up from 400hz.  I will crank the processing to the max and a
bit more.  Music will be 70's and 80's mostly, but maybe some Americana too.
Tv themes, etc.  This thing really squawks!  Great antenna system.  1957 and
someone knew their stuff!  Original sticks but xmtr site burned in 2004 and so
most equipment dates from then, SX5A xmtr, phaser, Optimod, etc.  Tuning boxes
are Gates 1957 and are like new!!  Gorgeous!
Live jocks and maybe on-air calls.  Got an audio clip from from Ken in Scotland
in 2006!  Vry clear, must've been xmtr work and I believe there was a big
problem about then that resulted in some down time, so likely engineer testing
the rig.  It's really cool to hear your own station from Scotland!!!

Peace and 73, BC

10watts.com lists no "Frank" on 97.1 so it must be very new. I would look
for a locality where there are both a 97.1 and a 1310 in the same market.

The ID's would be generated separately from the sign-on, sign-off logic. Of

Dave Hochfelder has had some success phasing a Quantum QXPro against an indoor
wire loop strung around the room. He uses a Quantum phaser.

neilkaz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Dave, I don't recall your antenna and rx

you'd probably be able to knock down WCKY enough without knocking down stuff in
the opposite direction.

Hopefully someday there will be a good phasing system for indoor DXers. .. ie
something like a Quantum Loop used as default for a figure 8 pattern, and then
with the Q adjusted lower phased against a good whip for a cardioid pattern.

Re: [IRCA] Old Solar Cycle Returns

2008-03-30 Thread Bruce Collier
Which explains the auroral condx earlier this week---sorry I missed it. Was
occupied with other stuff, but the broadband loop is GREAT in auroral condx--GY
channels can be reduced to 2 or 3 stations.

BTW--how to mess up a mini FM dxpedition: So there we are at 2800 ft ASL miles
from civilization and come to find one of the nuts gone off the boom clamp on
the FM10. Looked everywhere in and out of the truck, no joy. Day saved by a
big ol bag of cable ties in the truck---about 10 of 'em threaded through the
bolt holes and through/around the mast and she held! No great condx, tho, just
usual stuff. We were outside Somerset, PA, just 5 miles from the Flight 93
crash site, and we've heard London, ON several times and one KY station from
there! Also nabbed 3 from TX on some Eskip once. We bagged it early and went
to the temporary Flight 93 crash site memorial--very moving---I choke up every
time I'm there. If you're within driving distance, do it! There's just a
certain feeling there

Peace, BC

2008-04-09 Thread Bruce Collier
I still don't think that would allow them to be on before 6am at this time of
year. PSRA starts at 6am to fill the gap between 6am and "power-up" or sign-on
in the darker months. As someone pointed out, they may have been testing, but
the engineer seemed unaware of it. I think they boo-booed.

A PSA ( or PSSA ) is independent of a station being daytime-only. A PSA
(or PSSA) will also not necessarily be shown in the FCC records. Many
were never converted over when the current database was created. many
others were lost. At one time, these were entirely handled via fax, and
the records are skimpy.

IIRC, since when I lived in NJ and this station came on the air
initially while I lived there ( granted this is 35+ years ago, so my
recollection may not be completely accurate ) they did at that time
have a PSA - at which time there weren't PSSA's yet.

Bottom line, we don't really know for certain that they don't have one,
and there's no easy way to find out.

I agree---I logged them in the spring (I think) with WWKB phased out one
somewhat auroral night. Congrats, Jim!

1845 - WWKB 1520 audio has been cutting in and out for the last hour
(carrier is still on), I got a nice ID from a country station IDing as KOHW.

Any one have any idea of who this is? And Buffalo area DXers keep an ear
here!

Re: [IRCA] [Amdx] 790 CIGM & 600 CKAT in Ontario - Can you hear them at night?

2007-04-13 Thread Bruce Collier
I've heard CIGM a number of times, but 790 is pretty soupy here at night, with
WAEB, RI, and VA in there. If I did ever log CKAT, it was once only and with
phasing and a N/S Bog.

saulamdx <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: 790 CIGM Sudbury, 600 CKAT North Bay...
Just curious - can any of you on the list get either
of these stations at night? With any kind of decent
signal strength? Are they interfering with any of your
locals or semilocals?

Re: [IRCA] Kraftwerk DOIY DX TEST?

2007-05-03 Thread Bruce Collier
They had an American chart hit back around 1974 called "Autobahn". My brother
picked up the album in a closeout rack for 99cents, I believe...
Saul, can you record it on your computer and make the clip available for
emailing for DX tests? You could send it to Les and he could forward to
whoever.
